Annoyingly if you use the chat code to preview this sword and tick 'weapon only' it's horizontal, most greatswords are vertical. As well as making it hard to see clearly it makes it hard to compare to other greatswords.

On a related note I've got a question for anyone who has already bought it: is it actually bigger than other greatswords?

I have an asuran guardian whose whole premise is 'tiny girl with a huge sword holding off hordes of enemies' so I'm tempted to get it for her, but it doesn't look any bigger than existing absurdly oversized greatswords (the Vigil one for example).

Also I agree the preview window has needed many improvements for years, this isn't the first time it's been impossible to see an item properly because it doesn't fit in the window, even some characters don't fit properly.

Because theres a vertical metric it has fit in.  That check isn’t done on the horizontal. Its a neat trick, since they didn’t consider oversized swords in the original code.

Rotate the model 90• and BAM it fits.

I think the "golem" is just a symbol of extremley boring ideas that keeps replacing the "interesting but doesn't really super work or casual players find it too complicated, but when try hards utilise they break the game" ideas.

Making everything into "bigdamage/cleanse/heal/alac or quickness"...is just I am really not a fan of it personally..but it's too late they are commited to that now.

They have been approaching everything from this "easy to balance" angle with no regards to role-playing class fantasy flavor angle imo. Which is just...not fun...maybe for pvpers it is..?? Dunno. I don't play an mmo to go like..."ranger and ele dps/heal is the same..now I am happy".

This is exactly what WoW and FF did..where the game ends up feeling like a moba..and that's what they want. Buy your 80 boost..buy soto to shortcut all the mmoness of it all..then you'll need the expansions to play the especs, and buy whatever trendy "of performer" outfit from the skin shop, easy balance, easy money. This is what they are going for.

To be fair, RPers don’t care if its broken or works mechanically. But for buildcraft players, an imbalance causes issues across the whole game.

The real solution is look at the summoning items and reworking them. Easier to isolate out of wvw, can increase uptime, create an infinite version that keeps summoning on cool down, and tie ones to collections so the RP folks can pretend its a quest.

Well, considering that the ads don't even make it clear it that it isn't finished nor being released in chapters at certain times, there might be a case for it. Only way for you to know is to either finish the content and get a rude awakening or to click on the websites and dig for it.

    Not that I disagree…… but……

WOW has been doing that for a long time. Dungeons and raids are closed for at least 3 weeks after the xpac drops.  And raids are the content at this point.

  5. Think of it as an evolving theater.  Core and S1 were stage plays.  HOT was when the director saw 24 and tried it. Season 3 & 4 is when they finally got a camera and effects budget. POF is the theatrical release. From then on they fired the director and started doing the Disney thing with revolving door directors who doesn’t matter, because its 80% CGI action scenes now.

The idea of a queueing system comes up every now and then in the forum. When the experienced/hardcore/toxic (pick your favourite) people subject it to scrutiny there always pop up a number of questions which seem to make it not a very good idea. To this day I haven't really seen anyone come up with a good answer to (more or less) any of these questions. So the idea of a queueing system seems dead in the water.

Also, my experience with the lfg is vastly different; I only ever see a few people selling so it's mostly people seeking to make groups for their runs. Granted, a lot of these groups ask for experience - but that may be since they are in the "experienced" category, either in strikes or in raids category.

I got a good answer….. afkers.  Takes so long to get a group going, the queue suffers both attrition and people who fell asleep.

Whats worse?  An LFG thats slow to fill, but status is clear?  Or a queue that pops with half the group afk or missing?

  7. Fishing has to get a raid level treatment so people dont accuse the devs of being lazy and recycling gameplay. Lo and behold a huge chunk of the playerbase expected it to get easier and faster than the original.

You’ve already fished in every conventional place on the planet. A legendary fisher in title. Honestly fishing end game should be Bubbles, with an underwater raid for people with the fisher titles.

An expansion always had a full story at launch. SotO does not.

Not that this is necessarily a bad thing but I can understand why people are not liking it.

New paradigm for a new market environment. When the biggest game to date is still a BR game, where cosmetics are worth more then the base game, where char customization is your biggest money maker, and most games can launch in utter garbage state and still make money…….

The expacs don’t need to have value. They just have to be shiny enough to get you to log in, see the ingame shop, want the ingame shop, and spend on the ingame shop.  If you are not that type of player, you are just the inherent cost of doing business. And costs need to be minimized.

Welcome to the world we all have wrought.

More customisation options are always good, though I suspect prosthetics have to be armor/outfits because of game limitations (could be wrong, but this is an old game on an even older engine, so I'd rather see a anet employee pull a rabbit out of a hat than demand they perform the trick).

Its all fun and games until you realize you’ve fallen face first into a cyberpunk dystopia where people augment for the sake it, and make their bodies into weapons; tools of violence and intimidation.

Do not trade your humanity for the empty promise of fulfillment and power.

Just because the houses look like they're from 500 years ago it isn't automatically a medieval fantasy. Robots being made out of cogs and machinery used in steam machines or the entirety of core Engi and Scrapper is more of a steampunk genre, isn't it? That's what GW2 had for quite a few years.

Buildings made up of computers with huge displays, portals capable of moving you hundreds of kilometers are something you'd see in a sci-fi movie, not a medieval movie.
Strapping "fantasy" on the end doesn't change it.

Medieval fantasy doesn't need the technology it features to be scientifically explainable. This is why the idea of magic infused rocks becoming servants that can do all kinds of things, like fight or do whatever is a perfectly fine thing in the game.

If you hate "futuristic" elements, because it doesn't fit the idea of "medieval fantasy that's GW2" then them guns, grenades need to go in the bin along with all the steampunk stuff and things like Asura gates, golems, giant computers, screens and waypoints.

Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic”.

This is why the single most advanced piece of technology in Divinity’s Teach is a giant accordion, while the savage and tribalistic Charr have a literal industrial complex.

Asurans have mathematical proofs for how magic in Tyria is just energy with low dissipation rates, Sylvari tamed a jungle with low impact terraforming and can bioengineer physical structures, which only leaves the Norn with their subsistive hunter life style and shape shifting, as the closest thing to medieval or fantasy in this game.

This game has been Scifi from start. Scifi with eldritch horrors.

Look, I didn't even mention GPU in my last reply... Also, I didn't say to perfectly optimise the engine. Smaller optimisations are enough, just to bump up the fps. It doesn't necessarily have to be the code in the engine, it can involve optimising some maps. I suspect Amnytas is very low FPS simply because there are a lot of floating islands, so you can't really use occlusion culling like in normal "whole terrain" maps where things are usually hidden behind mountains/hills. But even then, standing up high somewhere in other maps won't bring you down to 20fps.

Also; Standing up high on a tower where no other players are loaded or anything is happening just shows that it's not a CPU/GPU bottleneck, but the engine itself that bottlenecks.A CPU or GPU bottleneck would be either of them being maxed out to 100%. But they aren't... And to be honest, this is pretty extreme when the FPS dips from an excess of 120fps to 20fps in popular places.

You can always optimise, that's how it works in programming. I don't even know if they have any of the original developers still in the development team. If they don't, then it would be extremely difficult for someone to get onboarded, learn the ins and outs of the engine and start optimising. Probably not deemed worth the time for a senior developer to spend months on getting familiar and then months on just optimising wherever performance can be gained.

Ok so the problem is that “small optimizations”  will not accomplish what you want.  Theyve been doing small passes for years, and while it improves, that overhead get gobbled up by all the new content assets and effects. You think it runs bad “now”, try 6 years ago with less than half the effects and models loaded as it does today.  30 FPS in any world boss was a feat of pure brute force of your hardware.  There was a reason they capped condi stacks and later added a consolidated tick as an option.

Despite what you might think, map specific issues are also limited by how the engine works, as much as assets and bad asset management.  How do you think those assets get rendered?

The engine needs an architectural overhaul. And keep in mind new GPUs and drivers are optimized toward newer APIs.  There is only so much you can do with DX9/11, which is single thread heavy,  when everything is moving to parallel designs like DX12 and vulkan; that trades single thread performance for  multithread and multinode scaling.  e

But justifying that is hard when GW2 isn’t even NCsofts biggest money maker by a wide margin.  The work they’ve done so far to uplift into DX11 is due to lack of options. e hit

They’ve hit the wall for performance returns on assets years ago.  Other than bugs in certain maps, the only long term path forward is redesigning the engine, and very likely a total repass on all assets to take advantage of the new design methods.

  12. make one of each class.   spread the races out to get achievements. Did not delete them after because I just learned how they work and not let little things like size, looks, and animations bother me.   One exception being melee asura for acrobatics. That never stops being entertaining.

And because people hate it, I made a max bulk charr for wvw one time to prove a point.

  13. Even if we ignore the code, already we have the immediate problem of armor and gear compatibility.   10s of posts about how they invested legendary medium armor for their crappy unwanted thief daredevil that they only rolled because it was the only dps they could use that “wasnt a piano class”, and now they have to make light armor from scratch because Mesmer is OP, and they cant be good without legendary gear and runes.

And we all know 1 post is 100 thousand players in real life.  So thats 10 million slaps in the face to players by not giving them free legendary armor to start with, that they EARNED, and use it with the class change.

Relic of GoB: When Equipped gain 1 Gift of Battle after gaining skirmish pips. This relic is destroyed when it's effects activate. Purchased from the Heroics Notary in exchange for 1 Gift of Exploration.

    Serious/not serious.

Sounds too OP.  should cost a gift of battle and then award a gift of battle and 1000 gold when taken into the PVP Lobby. That character is then traumatized, and can’t enter PVP modes without being triggered and unable to move.
