I add everyone where I have extremely different opinions because I'm interested to see where these opinions formed. What kind of content they play. There's always much more nuance than can be conveyed in a few comments. This is one way to understand some of it.

Whenever I play with some friends and invite them to my party / squad I get a quick glance on what people in my friend list are doing and get a more complete picture.

Cause that's not super creepy or anything

We all play this game, spend quite some time with it, it is our Hobby. You seriously think that it doesn’t occur to the majority to use the internet, which we already use every day and which has become such a huge part of our everyday life, to look for additional information about our Hobby? Nah I don’t think so.

The majority of players do not engage with any game outside the actual game.
    They don't google or youtube.
    ....or use the forums.

"This is what your curiosity gets you."

Iconic voice line was replaced with much less energic version as the Mai voice actor is now different. Let's take a moment of silence for the old version. No matter how trivial this is, I always enjoyed the start of fight with such well voiced and energic dialogue between Mai and Horrik, and now it just feels so boring and empty. Sad day 😞

Just wanted to throw in my agreement on this one.
Mai Trin's original VA was some of the best done lines in the game. My friends and I used to recite it line by line ala Rocky Horror Picture Show every time we did the fractal while on discord. It was over the top and just plain fun.
I get the reason for the change, in order to provide proper continuity for the character between the encounters in EoD, S1 and the Fractal.
But the changes just removed a bunch of the charm from one of my favorite encounters.

Not a big deal, but just one of my favorite parts of the game that lost a little shine.

Win or loss in spvp or wvw indeed is decided mainly by player skill.

    With regard to WvW:
    Untrue.
Build and gear are much more important in WvW than any other game mode. This is why WvW specific guilds usually mandate new players to run, gear and learn very specific builds.
Skill is certainly a large component of the small scale roaming game, but as soon as you are talking about groups larger than 7-8 people (the vast majority of WvW play), the only skill involved is typically positioning, staying on tag, and fufilling your role.
While certainly more difficult than the vast majority of PvE content, "stack on tag" is not what I would call skill expression.

  5. If you are building for Thief Open World the only build I found that was really viable in Celestial was a condi-focused Spectre. Other options I tried simply did not cut it.
If you are building for Power your absolute best choices are either full glass cannon Berserker's or what I found the best balance between Damage/Survivability: Marauder's.
Marauders gets you right up to the crit cap with a little jimmy leg and gives you enough HP to take a few hits while hitting hard enough to get by.
Zerker's is great if you have enough skill, hit all your dodges and can meaningfully leverage the class' mobility and evasion options. Otherwise I will go with a Marauder's Daredevil every time.

The reasons Cele is not great on Thief are largely covered in the responses here. It generally (though not always) favours condi focussed builds that generate a lot of boons. Things like Tempest, Catalyst, Renegade, a few different Mesmer options, and a few flavors of Engi are great in Cele gear. A few Ranger builds are really fun in Cele.
But power focussed builds on Thief and Warrior don't gain much from the boon duration as they perma the few relevant boons they generate (Might, Fury) without needing the Concentration, leading to a lot of wasted Stats and overall milquetoast performance.

I was wondering how populated meta events are these days? I have kind of been backing out of the game since beating the EoD campaign. The Dragon's End meta is fine but it's not my favorite. The thing I like most about GW2 is jumping into some random meta events throughout the world but it looks like most people are concentrating on DE. Has anyone been in big populations in any other meta's lately? Maybe I am just looking in the wrong places at the wrong time.

People are still running SIlverwastes and Drytop metas (though not 24/7).

If you play a heal/support in group-content, its a lot of fun. You can heal and buff all  day long and everyone is happy.

BUT if youre a healer with heal equip and youre doing other stuff alone, for example playing the story or map completion, or hearts or heropoints and such, you often have the problem, that being a healer and having heal equip, your damage is really low.

So what people do is use another specc or another gear or another class or play a hybrid healer with celestial gear or so.

But what if you really like playing healer/buffer, cause in open world there are group events too where you can make a big diffrence. But once the group event is over and youre alone again on the map, the fights become hard if your equip is geared for 100% boon duration and a lot of heal. Maybe you dont die, but killing a veteran or an elite takes a lot of time alone as healer.

So for the healers, we would really like to have this equipment stats:

    Power (Mainstat)

    ConditionDamage (Mainstat)

    Healing (Secondary)

    Concentration (Secondary)

Lets take the Boots for example, they would then have:

    40 Power

    40 Condition Damage

    22 Healing Power

    22 Concentration

Since this equip stats dont have Precision, Ferocity or Expertise, the damage wont be that high, but it would allow the Healers to deal more Damage than now and do Solo-PVE Content faster than now, while still having a lot of heal and boon duration.

The idea of splitting your role (damage and support) AND your damage type (condi and strike) is objectively poor.
    As has been mentioned:
-Plaguedoctor's, Zealot's, Magi's, Harriers, Marshall's, Celestial ect would all be preferable to what you are suggesting.
-Build and Equipment templates can be hotkeyed out of combat at any time.

Shooting down an Elder Dragon with giant lasers while riding an airship (in a fleet of them) was about swords and sorcery?

    Hi ANET,

I have an idea for you.

Firstly, I love Guild Wars 2 and I want it to be successful for a long time. However, I am sure that like any other business, you also want something else to „sell“that secures the future of the studio. Do not look further, I have a great idea for you 😊

For me the best part of GW2 is the horizontal progression system and the combat mechanics. In my opinion the ideal situation for Anet would be to create a second MMO that uses large parts of the existing system but is so different from GW2 that people do not perceive it as lazy copy or clone.

The GW2 system offers the following

    -          PVE, PVP, WVW

    -          Dodge

    -          Light, Medium and Light Armor

    -          Lots of stats that change your abilities

    -          Weapon swap

    -          Range and close combat

    -          Distance modifier

    -          Jumping

    -          Blocking

    -          Shields

    -          Downstate

    -          Reflects

    -          Stealth

    -          Direct and Condition Damage

    -          Terrain and Cover

    -          Line of sight

    -          AOE

    -          Teleport

    -          Time Warp

    -          Flying

    -          Mounts that support multiple players

    -          Ammunition skills

    -          Daze, Stun, Knockbacks, Pull ….

    -          Projectile Weapons

    -          Beam weapons

    -          Rocket launcher

    -          Flamethrower

    -          Grenade launcher

    -          Turrets

    -          Snipers

    -          Combat pets

    -          And so on…..

What would you say if there is brand, universe, popular board game, franchise with millions of fans that does not have an MMO yet…

    Well, there is …

I suggest that ANET reaches out to Gamesworkshop and secures the license to develop an Warhammer 40k MMO based on the GW2 system

Nothing in this space exists, the WH40K universe is a sleeping giant of a franchise, that is criminally under used, especially when it comes to video games.

ANET already has so many things in place….

    -          WH40k would probably make even better use of the combat system than GW2

    -          GW2 already supports widely different character models which is also needed for WH40k. (Norn has basically the size of a Space Marine)

    -          The vindicator is already an Assault Marine with Jump Pack

    -          Instead of playing mechanist you play a Dreadnought, just get rid of the useless player character… LOL

    -          You have spells, projectiles, grenades, beam weapons, summoning all the good stuff to create the different WH40K factions and balance them.

    -          You can dodge, block, evade, reflect, absorb damage

    -          Combat in GW2 between Close and Range is fluent, exactly what you need in WH40K

I read, watched and played everything that has to do with WH40K and every ability, skill, mechanic, I would wish to be in an MMO for WH40K is already there in GW2….

    Here are some bonus thoughts

    -          Since the system would so similar/identical to GW2, players could switch between the games very easily and still have two very different experiences

    -          Some/a lot of development could be done it parallel for both games

    -          The risk that a WH40K MMO would not be popular is very low

    -          A Steam release could be coupled with a note „Hey GW2 is the Free to Play Game that is the foundation of our upcoming WH40K game

    -          WVW is made for WH40K….

    -          Player could recreate their miniatures in the game. The character creation process and color pallet would allow this already

And ANET if you want to develop something new for a WH40K Game, I also have a suggestion…

Instead of traveling from MAP to MAP in WH40K you travel from planet to planet and in between you can have space combat, just if you are bored ….

ANET is the studio to do this! I put the time into writing this comment, because I could not let go of this idea. Maybe somebody from the studio reads this, because if you follow the path, I mapped out, the more sense it all makes…trust me.

As both a player and a youtuber I would run for the hills at any involvement of Games Workshop in any franchise I was interested in.
Games Workshop is a litigious player-unfriendly company who attacks fan made content and will always favor their bottom line over EVERYTHING.

I love the 40k lore. But I vote with my wallet, and seeing Anet allying themselves with Games Workshop would disengage me from all their products including the Guild Wars franchise.

    Hello.

What is good and easy class/build to solo story missions, hero challenges and generally open world stuff?

Something which doesn't require complex rotation to survive and deal enough damage and is forgiving so I can survive some mistakes.

When I search for similar topic the answer is usually elite specialization but to get that I need to level character first and get enough points to unlock everything so it's not good for someone who is just starting 😄

I tried necromancer with minions but I didn't really like it. It felt somewhat slow and even boring at times.

    Which class would you recommend?

    Thanks.

I see, that's what you meant.
So basically it's just common abusive language that has existed for a very long time.. most of those words you used have been around for centuries I think.. or at least a century.

I can't say I care for the term "gamer word", it implies a link between this kind of behaviour and gamers and promotes unfair and false stigmas on what is one of the biggest communities on earth these days.

The vast majority of gamers do not behave like that.

Gamers have constantly been branded and attacked with stigmas and accusations like that over the decades, and the gaming hobby and culture has always been unfairly scapegoated and blamed for the awful behaviour of individuals, not to mention horrific crimes in worst cases.

Games are not and never have been responsible for such behaviour, the blame always lies with the individuals.. and perhaps sometimes their parents as well.

    Cool soapbox.

  12. The term "Gamer Word" stems from gamers initially trying to downplay the use of hate speech in online video games. It was an attempt to minimize the impact of terms like ni****, re**** and fa**** as "just things gamers say when they are heated up."
The meaning eventually evolved into it's current use that includes many common curse words that are generally filtered in online games and often the cause for account related action such as suspension/ban.
    Current meaning:
    Gamer Word=Swear Word/Hate Speech

    Hey,

I was watching a stream yesterday and the topic of mmorpg worlds and immersion came up.

This has always been one of my issues with Guild Wars 2 i just never really put it into words. See i think that Guild Wars 2 is honestly focused too much on action, there is always something happening! Which you might think should be a good thing but in my opinion (and the people in the stream) its not.

In World of Warcraft for example you can enter some little village somewhere and just chill, chill for as long as you want, walk around see what the npcs have to say, walk around in the forest, organise your inventory etc etc its just a laid back moment where you decide when you want to head out and actually do something.

In Guild Wars 2 however the game often times decides for you, you are chilling in a nice little area and perhaps even role playing a bit. Well... an EVENT! Save the people! Put out the fire! CHAOS! Action action action! No chill time for you!

Everything in Guild Wars 2 is tied to something, there is always something going on. Applenook Hamlet in Gendarran Fields is a chill immersive looking little village and those very few times when you do actually stop and look around in Guild Wars 2 and manage to get immersed its ruined by something happening. In Applenook Hamlet its those thieves that constantly try to destroy the farm. And while this is happening the villagers are just standing literally a couple feet away like nothing is happening. Its like okay chill Guild Wars 2, sometimes its okay to just chill.

On top of that there are way too few places like Applenook Hamlet. Because everything is built with a specific purpose, beautiful places are very rare.

Another point is npc. There is very little variation in npcs. I'll give you an example, at the Gates of Arah there are two karma merchants within a couple of feet of each other who sell the exact same items. Warmaster Benson and Crusader Benson. They even have the same name!

Armor and weapon merchants scale with map levels but if you got one weapon merchant in one end of the map and another at the other end, they sell the same things. I think it would give the game so much more character if npcs were more distinct and you had a reason to seek out specific npcs. Yes this happens but its also very rare.

I dont know, just something i have been thinking about. There is just something about existing in that fictional world and feeling like an adventurer and in Guild Wars 2 it gets completely overwhelmed by all of the mayhem going on around you pretty much all of the time.

I would even go as far as to say that Guild Wars 2 is perhaps the only mmorpg that could do with actually being more generic.

    Relax Guild Wars 2.

    TLDR:Less content pls

I'm not saying A-net made these nerfs happen because they listened to him, I'm saying I DONT want A-net listening to a guy that only views the game from a narrow point of view, because it leads to changes like this.

Teapot hardly plays the game from a narrow perspective. He is constantly running Meta trains in OW, participating in WvW, running instanced content like strikes raids and fractals, organizing PvP tournaments, running fashion contests.
As far as content creators/streamers go, I am hard pressed to think of anyone else that showcases and participates in the breadth of content he does.

    More to the point however:
I am primarily an open world player and I agreed with the changes as well.

An MMORPG cannot survive by catering to just one portion of the playerbase.
There are a lot more casual players playing FF14 than there are playing Gw2.

In order for an MMO to be popular it must draw in both players. WoW does this by offering Mythic Plus Raiding and Pet Battles. FF14 offers far more than any MMO for Roleplayers at the same time as offering Savage raids.
This  zero sum game of Animal Crossing or it's Dark Souls is just part of the divisive rhetoric pushed by faux-casuals in an attempt to wag the dog.

It really comes down to how you define casual and toxicity, these days and within this game's context. We can also look at the question from the general gaming perspective - where, imo, a lot of these players WOULD be labeled as casuals.

I wasn't implying I was merely including the forums on this. Also, have you looked at the "Helping New Players" -section?

The "toxicity" that is being blamed on casual players is largely due to the false rherotic and babyrage on these forums and to a lesser degree reddit.
Actual casual players don't engage with these.

By blaming the ugliness on casual players, you are just feeding into the label they choose to cloak themselves with and giving them credibility.
Actual casual players don't have post counts over 100 and argue for the firing of developers. They don't shout repeatedly "I'm casual, so Anet should do x".
