Well, for starters I can say with absolute certainty that I'm a PVE player and I'm addicted to annual GW2 festivals. And I come here to share my perspective on the 2022 Super Adventure Festival.
In the first few days, I was impressed with the news that arrived this year, the Hardlight weapons are magnificent. But, I came across other reasons that left me 100% discouraged after a few days had passed.
Could someone answer me why the holographic utility became EXTREMELY cheap in a matter of hours?!
What motivated me to do the festival was the acquisition of the holographic utilities, because somehow they would be able to give me a gold profit at the end of the festival. I relentlessly collected baubles every day just for the pleasure of collecting and exchanging them for the holographic utility. Now, is it really worthwhile to collect baubles to exchange for holographic soups?
It was impressive how the company broke the ONLY way to farm gold at the festival! They put the holographic soups inside the "Super Loot" bags to end the pleasure of players thinking about acquiring gold.
NOTE: The holographic utilities before the festival were costing an average of 60-70 silver, and during past festivals, they never went down as drastically in price as they are now.
The Festival died for me, now I just do the basics, complete the daily achievements and get out. The Festival has become something very poor and repetitive (now that there is no way to earn any amount of gold, it got even worse).
What about purchasing items?! What is the chance of dropping something from the bosses? Bosses that are daily!
In the early days I did everything, today I barely do anything there. I'm just playing the Festival because I only need a Crimson weapon to complete my achievement. If it wasn't for that, not even Festival would exist for me.
And another, the items that the npcs offer in exchange for balls are already well outdated. How many years have you had those items? Some minis, backpacks, speakers, in short, more of the same.
Not everything revolves around achievements, Guild Wars 2 is a game that prioritizes the beauty and appearance of the characters as well. Sometimes it's expensive to beautify yourself, and that requires in-game gold.
For me, the Festival I loved so much died this year.

    TLDR: More gold pls.

Bottom lines legendary armor provides HUDE QoL value for players with a lot of alts or who likes to play different builds.

    Sure does.
    But when you consider that:
    1. The statistical impact of ascended/legendary over Exotic is minimal
    2. This value is often less than running proper Food/Utility effects
    3. That a full 1/3 of a an armour set can be purchased as full Stat-selectable Exotic off the TP for less than 7 Gold.
    4. That the remainder of of an exotic set can be earned in Stat selectable gear boxes in less than a couple hours.
    5. That Open World PvE is by far the game's most lucrative activity in terms of raw gold per hour (even fishing can earn up to 26g an hour),
    6. That the number of times you would need to change your exotic gear in order to come near the time time investment of Legendary Armour is....well quite high.
    7. That Ascended gear can be stat swapped for less than two hours of Open World meta farming
    8. That half your Trinkets can be stat-selectable and resettable for 100 unbound magic through methods that are exlcusive to Open World PvE.

I would think that any reasonable player with less time on their hands would understand that a less than 5% bump is not super relevant. I would have to think that anyone arguing this issue in good faith would recognize that the hardest content in any MMO should offer the best rewards.
Even most raid groups will not care one whit if you are running Exotic armour.
I would have to think that understanding the value of long term goals that include a variety different content to the overall health of the game would take precedence a player's entitlement and avarice.

I have over 20 alts. Most of them see active play. My youtube channel is ample proof that I am primarily an Open World enthusiast and am deeply invested in the game's buildcraft. I have one set of Legendary Armour (Medium) which I earned in competitive. I have no legendary Runes/Sigils, I have one Legendary Trinket earned via the "Return To" acheivements and if I could get that time back, I would in a second.
    I am also gainfully employed.
I have put up many videos of toons geared in Exotic Armour. No one has ever complained about this.
    No one.
    Ever.
This idea that Legendary gear is, in any way shape or form, essential to the enjoyment of the game and it's buildcraft is ,quite simply, complete hogwash.

The best buildcrafter in this community, Bootts from World of Enders, did amazing work and juggled a high number of alts before Legendary Armour was even a thing.

Bottom lines, ANET recognized importance of leg armor, that's why it was added to WvW and PvP. You cannot argue that. WvW armor is almost effortless, just a time grind (I can escort freaking dolyaks for participation). Why not a way for armor for open world with bit MORE effort, but mostly soloable, like trinkets, so other can enjoy the game while earning it? I don't see any reasonable arguments anywhere except cult like explanations.

    Theorectically?
    Sure.
    In reality?
    Not even close.
I play a fair bit of WvW. The number of people I know with Legendary armour is VERY small. The number of people I know who earned this armour exclusively in WvW is exactly zero.
The reality is the return on time investment in WvW is so low that each and every player I ever met who earned Legendary armour in WvW had to pad their play time with high value metas in Open World or swiping/Gems to Gold. Reality is that, without exaggeration, a player gathering Platinum and Elder Wood on core Open World maps earns more in terms of liquid, non account bound assets.

We can also look at the fact that to stat reset/select trinkets earned in WvW takes a stack of Memories of Battle with a TP Value of 42 Gold. This currency is easily the bulk of liquid income a WvW player makes.
A Bloodstone Ruby trinket can be stat reset for the cost of... 4 winterberry bush harvests?... maybe 5?

WvW Legendary *anything* involves a massive time investment IN ADDITION to a significant material/gold sink.
Theoretically this can be done in WvW only.
    Realistically it cannot.

Dual classing was one of the iconic features of GW1, and while there's a lot to like about the current professions, the return of Cantha makes me feel like the devs should take another opportunity to bring back even more of what made the original game great.

The thing is, I think it can be done without actually changing the current specialization system. Here's my idea:

    1. Give each core profession a new weapon to use from the existing weapon pool, usable on that profession regardless of elite specialization.
    2. Design a new elite specialization for each class, but not for that class to use; instead, you design one elite specialization inspired by the core mechanics of all 9 professions.
    3. Make all of these elite specializations, usable by every other profession except for the one inspired by their main profession.

So, for example, a Warrior might choose to take the Thief elite specialization, maybe granting access to the steal mechanic, some thief utilities, and a set of traits inspired by the thief.

Maybe an Elementalist could take the Mesmer elite specialization, and gain a limited ability to make clones. Obviously, the profession mechanics are where things get tricky, and I don't have a concrete solution in every scenario; but then, I'm not a game developer.

I do think 3 normal elite specializations is enough per class right now, and this could be an interesting way to deliver something different on the same note, while still only have to develop 9 new elite specializations.

    Just a thought.

    The original game was:
    1. A balance nightmare
2.Not as open buildcraft-wise as the proponents of the system would have you believe. The number of truly effective traits/interactions was much smaller than even the sequel.

The Elite spec system is made to offer the same benefits of the Main Class/Subclass system, in that they offer the ability to brand one class' playstyle to another class.
    Mechanist is Engi/Ranger
    Harbinger is Necro/Engi
    Firebrand is Guardian/Ele
    ect...
There is still design space for 6 more elite specs per class.

These requests to limit the elite spec system based on some arbitrary armchair developing are always a result of Dunning-Kruger.

How about you move? Leave the LFG to the normal players and make an elitist farming and raid-selling platform on your own?

So only people who play the way you want should be allowed to use the LFG and assemble teams with likeminded players?

I am neither an "elite farmer" nor am I a raid seller.  My LFG's for strikes generally involve the phrase "all welcome"... I have run hundreds of them.

People who disagree with my approach avoid my listings on the LFG as it does not match their play style. They gladly join a group with people who are more interested in high performance or they start their own.
They do not start forum threads complaining about my desire to play content with likeminded people and ask Arenanet to step in and restrict other people.
They certainly aren't telling me to leave the platform.

t seems to me that the one label that Asura - a species that is naturally small of stature - would avoid like mad, is "infantile."

This is your own projection on the lore. It is not backed up by anything in game, and is in fact something you are flat out making up.
How many times does Phlunt put down Taimi in the story by calling her "Progeny" as a diminutive?

Do you get upset every time an Asura in game insults your intelligence?
    No.
Or you would have started a thread a long time ago.

This is in fact a non-issue you are choosing to conflate.

    playing devil's advocate here:

calling it "infantile mode" seems to be anti-inclusive to me, since some people are handicapped and unable to do tribulation mode. and this game is all about inclusivity, including but not limited to, color, creed, kitten orientation, handicap. IE: it's bullying to call someone a baby when "he/she/anything-in-between" (<--Doctor Who "quote") is handicapped.

Calling it "Bookah Mode" is at least lore appropriate.

Isn't calling it "infantile" also lore appropriate? Given the race's penchant for arrogance?

"They constantly seek to prove their own intellectual superiority, and by extension the superiority of the asura race. This typically results in asura being arrogant to the point of rudeness towards others, especially towards non-asura races. "
    https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Asura

I always thought that the "Infantile" label was an extension of the above, much like when they calling each other "simpleton" ect. The lore and writing of the race has always reflected these kind of put downs and haughty language. It's a cornerstone of the culture.

Taking offence to the "infantile" label seems to me to be a highly selective form of self martyring considering how often Asura are rude, insulting or projecting an air of superiority.

I would be pretty disappointed if Arenanet kowtowed to the OP considering the argument seems to have been started in bad faith using buzzwords that they figured would wag the dog.

Arenanet net not making any significant changes to the soowon fight can be interpreted in two ways. One is that they made a mistake (insert all arguments for anet to change the battle) and refuse to admit it. The other interpretation might be: you are doing it wrong, try a different tactic.

    Just two ways?
Just has to be either they eff'ed up or the community is wrong?
They can't possibly be monitoring completion rates, ensuring that they are naturally rising as players learn the encounter awhile preparing possible tuning to the encounter in case it doesn't?

8 builds per character across 24 characters?
That's a *very* niche area to highlight in order to claim something is "unplayable".

I will go a step further and say this isn't "very niche" but "complete hogwash".
Fortunately @Fangoth.4503 can prove me wrong and create a public API Key and a link to GW2Efficiency.

What I'd like to see in the next expansion is Elite Specs that can only be combined with another Elite + Core traitline. So you'd get the versatility of even more class archetypes but further reduced build functionality.

For example, you could equip Reaper for Necromancer in 3rd slot, then take another Spec in 2nd slot that gives access to a different new weapon (besides Greatsword) and utility skill set, and finally a Core traitline in 1st slot.

Your 3rd slot spec would always be the one your F# skills come from, including the option to put your Core traitline there or whatever order you prefer to create various combinations (e.g a Dragonhunter with Traps but with Core F# skills instead), but you could never use more than one traitline from any spec.

It sounds bad, but other games have done something similar quite successfully.

    With your system I could:
Create a Mechanist that permas Alacrity (Which only requires the mechanist trait line) and has access to gyros and the traits that will perma Quickness. from Scrapper
Create a Ranger that would have access to Oppressive Superiority, Furious Strength, 5 Stacks of Ferocious Symbiosis, Remorseless and Farsighted all at once.
Run a Vindicator with Forerunner of Death and Leviathan Strength stacked with Forceful Persistence while still being able to use Battle Scars.
Have you considered what the outcome of Mirage+Virtuoso really is?

And you see no issue with this because someone (you) wants to run Greatsword on Scourge or Axe on Willbender?
    Yes it sounds bad.
But I will bite.... name one other game that has "done something similar quite successfully."

Ultimately, I feel it was always going to result in power-creep, devaluing core specs and any Elite Spec that preceded the most recent one

In what way does Untamed devalue Soulbeast?
In what way does Holosmith devalue Scrapper?
Are you really going to argue that Willbender devalues Firebrand?

While it's clear that the Elite Spec system does indeed represent a direct upgrade over core specs, the idea that Spellbreaker's design is a power creep to devalue Berserker seems pretty far off the mark to me.

The elite specs didn't happen because anet wanted every class to fill some arbitrary fixed "roles". That's your own assumption. They are first and foremost intended as different interpretations of the base classes in lieu of getting actual new classes. These "roles" only serve as additional layers to make these elites also functionally relevant in some capacities. Anet wouldn't care less releasing 4th warrior dps spec if they want to.

    This is the correct response.

Alternately, maybe some sort of wild and crazy GW1 type of dual-professing. Dual-professionalism?

The elite spec system already expresses main/class subclass.
    Class        +     Subclass    =    Name
    Engineer  +     Warrior     =    Scrapper
    Guardian +    Thief           =    Willbender
    Ranger     +     Warrior     =    Untamed
    Warrior    +    Engineer    =    Bladesworn
    Rev           +    Guardian   =    Herald
    ect...
You will find the above is true for all elite specs in that they are an attempt to bring one class' play style to another class without the balance nightmare that was GW1.

    12 hours ago, Redfeather.6401 said:

This process of adding new subclasses can't go on forever without repercussions. A 4th elite spec is just going to compete with existing specs in ways that is not healthy for the game. Control, damage, support. Those are essentially the 3 elite specializations we need per class. Every new elite is going to be compared to whatever elite it's stepping on the toes of and start a petition for better spec balance.

    Is Tempest a support Spec?
It can be played viably for Condi Damage. It can be played for Control via Shocking Aura Share, it can be played for pure support.
    Is Firebrand a Support Spec?
Because it can easily be played for 100% condi DPS in addition to Healbrand.
    is Vindicator a Damage spec?
Because there's a whole trait line and second legend devoted to group support in addition to it's strong damage dealing capabilities.
Is Scrapper Power DPS, or support?
Because as far as I can see the Power DPS provides massive control but the elite can also be built as full support.

The fact is that elite specs do not, as you are claiming, represent only one aspect of your list. Some, like Daredevil are very weighted to one of the three options you have presented. Others like Specter can be played for multiple roles such as Condi DPS or Support.
Given my response to the other poster above, it seems to me that we actually have the design space for 6 more elite specs per class.

Phantasy Star Online - New Genesis is probably the ideal example for this, as is Bless Unleashed.

I won't comment on PSO I know little about it.
    Bless Unleashed though...?

I'm pretty surprised anyone would attempt to position this game's failure as the result of a fickle player base ready to jump ship on games due to the perception issues.
Let's forget the dumpster fire that was Bless Online... sure. Should we fault the tens of thousands of players who felt burned by calling it a expectation issue?
Bless Unleashed released with a static boring world, clunky combat, and felt like a chore to play.
It didn't lose players due to some kind of issue outside itself. It was a rehash of an existing game, presented multiple times across multiple platforms in order to continually milk a portion of the MMO playerbase that is always looking for the new dope.
Bless is the very essence of a cash grab, that is continually recycling itself under new publishers to cash in on the rush, of new players with a "big launch".

That's three of the four games on your list that were not issue of "rats leaving a sinking ship" but of developer and publisher malfeasance/misteps.
It's not the pattern you are trying to claim it is.
