  1. This happened to a lot of their 'visions' that were supposed to make the game unique, unfortunately. With the advent of raids and elite specs a lot of their core tenets for the game went kaput. The idea was to have a game where you didn't have the "holy trinity" of tank, DPS, healer. Some classes had higher health pools, some had higher damage, but it wasn't a hugely significant difference. There were niches, but you could typically do other things while fulfilling that niche. (Remember when people were happy to get a core ele with a staff b/c they needed heals? And you could also do decent damage at the same time? That was the closest thing to a healer meta there was!) Edit: a friend reminded me that there was an early-game comment from the devs about taking five elementalists into a dungeon to show that you weren't pigeonholed into a role, and that elementalists were an especially good example of this because of attunements. Then raids - and the druid & chronomancer especially - happened. Ever since then, their vision of all classes having multiple viable builds was thrown out the window for almost any but open-world and story players. In raids, mid+ fractals, PvP, and WvW, there's always a meta spec now, and if you're not playing it then you're gonna get yelled at (even if you're doing your job) or not be able to do your job at all. For ele, the pigeonholed role now is 'DPS,' and since they're not balancing burst v. sustained DPS well with their updates, ele isn't the shining example of that role any more. If Anet had kept up their initial stance that the elementalist was flexible rather than just changing it to be more DPS-oriented over time, there wouldn't be as big of an outcry over nerfing one aspect of them because they would still have other niches they could fill well. It's resulted in people being angry at build changes that touch the meta at all, and staff ele has been the closest thing to the meta since...basically the start of the game. IMO that does mean it (or other weapons) should be tweaked so people are more likely to play the others, but any way you do it people are gonna complain at this point, especially when it starts with staff nerfs to bring it down to more of the level of the others. It's been entrenched as the ele weapon by now, so people cling to it. I'd rather them bring other weapons up to par so they're used more often, then balance all the weapons around each other when the dust settles and they see how they're being used. If they improved scepter/focus for example, and people were still using almost entirely staffs in all their builds like they do now, there would be need for a serious look at further balance changes (and possibly some justified nerfs at that point, whether to staff or the other weapon). Bit of a rambly tangent, I suppose, but tl;dr I agree with the sentiment that they've departed from their vision quite a lot. Thank you for this
  2. Elementalist in PVP is supposed to be a meme. There are some support builds that kind of work. The problem is other builds are doing what the Elementalist does, but better.I don't play Elementalist in WvW to comment on that.Elementalists in more general PVe, like exploration and story instances was already suffering. Harder boss fights can be a pain as an Elementalist while they are a breeze for nearly every other profession out there. Now it will only become even harder, because reasons.Elementalists in instanced PVE, Fractals and Raids will suffer because their rotation is more complicated than others, but I'm positive they will remain strong there. After all Elementalists shine when they have babysitters to revive them, heal them and buff them. And by shine I mean do good damage because that's all Elementalists are good for. It's sad really. Arenanet only balances around the Elementalist being with enough allies to keep them alive. While in any situation that you won't have such allies available, WvW roaming, most cases in PVP, solo story instances and so on Elementalists keep getting worse and worse. And because some Necromancer/Scourge will pop in, they always do when Elementalists get nerfed, quick reminder that Scourge is meta and Necromancer was meta, in nearly every aspect of the game outside Raids and high-end Fractals, while having the easiest time when going solo in any type of content. Well said, I couldn't put my finger on it but it does feel like ele does the best when there is a babysitter who does what ele does, just better @Chasind.3128 said: Elementalist in PVP is supposed to be a meme. The sustain is there when built for it...dunno why the player should be forced to play an unsuitable role better done by other specialized classes, who even decided that ele must be pocket dps bot for the rest? I am starting to like the direction the devs are taking with ele. Every weapon on ele has support/CC and dps option that display the hybrid nature of the class...but somehow the playerbase decided that ele must be full zerk no sustain DPS bot...you can't go against the design of the classProbably decided to go strictly dps because most things to kill them, take a certain about of dps over time. Like raids, when the boss has the berserk mode. if you lack the dps, you're not completing the raid and ele has some of the highest dps. The playerbase didn't build the game or mechanics.

  4. So much this. As a returning player, it does seem that Anet's communication about balance is still trash. It's just REALLY showing RE: Elementalist atm. :( There are no ele devs. The only ele dev I saw almost died while just trying to show off tempest skills when the tempest 1st was introduced in a video.
  5. I agree, I don't do raids at all anymore. I don't care for them, expecting people to understand the mechanics or you're accidentally with an elitist group that puts the elite back in the meaning of the word.I just WvW and that's pretty lackluster, but if there isn't some kind of useful buff within this useless nerf, ele won't have much of a place anywhere.
  6. Just legitimately wondering, what is anets vision for the elementalist class for all play modes. What do you expect from the elementalist in PvP? Are they only meant for 1v1 or team fights? Both? What is your vision for elementalists in WvW? With the upcoming nerf to their only long ranged weapon, what do you hope for the elementalist? What will their role turn to?How about elementalists in PvE & Raids? What do you guys think about elementalist in its current state and soon to be future state? Please share your thoughts/ suggestions and opinions!
  7. I would be so down for this. There was also a beautiful hairstyle that was previewed for human females but it never came to be.I see this being a racial design, like someone said with the wedding outfit and I'd be 1000% okay as the wedding outfit is amazing.
  8. Have you ever tried to teach a monkey how to play???? It would probably be as a hard (or harder) than teaching a tarnished coast siege humper how to play brah, all the do is get on AC press 1111111 that is all what their gaming capabilities allow em to do. lets nerf everything in the game just leave 1 skills so this people can actually be on par with the normal players pls ty. I can't agree more lol, All of the pve casuals are in TC and try to WvW and protect their precious siege then complain when someone nukes them because they never learned how to dodge
  9. Charr will always get the short end of the stick when it comes to outfit design, which is why I won't buy any outfits unless it looks equally as good on humans as it does charr
  10. Engineer, Ranger and Elementalist are my favs Guardian and revenant are my least favorites. Guardian is just boring for me and Revenant is just a bad class.
  11. You mean something practical? Something that a woman/ man in heavy armored would actually wear?Yes. take my money. But anet wont do it. All of their outfit designs are really silly looking. They ruined the pretty elona armor and changed it to a canthan outfit.
  12. Mesmer pulls don't need a nerf. To actually pull someone from a ledge, you have to place the pull correctly and it's easy to dodge and easily countered. It's not really an issue if you play smart and learn to place your siege. Also, siege fighting xDIt's a L2P issue.
  13. I don't mind the clipping, I can get passed it. It's when Anet designers purposely ignore their HORNS AND EARS. Hoods that completely remove them. Why? Why develop a race if you're going to trash on them visually every time a new outfit/ armor comes out?
  14. The Dervish outfit ignores Charr Horns and Ears, yet the hood is tailored for the Asuran race, and ignores Charr.
  15. I've had this issue since a recent nvidia update (since november 2017) but i dont want to uninstall my drivers bc this shouldnt be an issue. it's as if we're not allowed to optimize or something
  16. They should have a title above their heads in big red letters that says "Loser" for those 3 months. Also, they'll just get back to manipulating things as soon as the 3 months are up.But atleast PvP isn't completely ignored like we all thought.
  17. I feel like anet is going to go the more basic route, as much as we want a new race (Tengu pls) It most likely won't happen. I'd think even with a new expansion. People lose interest so quickly due to the stories being months apart, and the stories themselves can be 100% completed in about an hour. It will probably be the same with a new expansion; full of new things but within a week it's been there, done that/ completed story on day one now to rinse repeat events.
  18. New & Improved GW1 Hairstyles for humans/ Norns- Just recycle because GW1 hairstyles looked better too. New hairstyles in general. New & BETTER beards. More Hats & Hoods with Hairstyles. Outfits that do not have Capes/ Coats/ Anything long that falls because it looks silly. More butterfly/ Bug/Insect wing gliders. More outfits that are lore/ racial based; Like the Wedding Attire. Racial based mounts? (Leafy mount for sylvari/ Machine mount for charr/ Dire mount for Norn/ Practical animal mount for humans/ Energy/ machine mount for asura)
  19. Mine goes from 60 to 4-6 fps for a few minutes then comes back up to normal for several hours, then back down. It can be anywhere, I've even had my graphics turned all the way down & it began. It only lasts for several minutes then pops back to normal. Logging out fixes it.I'm thinking it may be Nvidia since gw2 updates and nvidia hate each other.Ive deleted my .dat file before i unpatch the recent nvidia update.
  20. More hats with hairstyles. Hoods with hairstyles. Please anet, Do not make any more headpieces that erase hairlines. When your designers make the outfits, is it a "Well, it makes them bald which we know annoys them but make the outfit anyway, they can always un-check the mask box." Why not just incorporate outfits that give hairstlyes that change per race? Take more time into designing your outfits. Make cute but practical hairstyles for every race. Long braid for human females, BETTER beards for male norn/ humans. More tattoos for norn. Long sylvari hair. More horns/ mohawks for charr. Maybe hairstyles with feathers in them? For humans/ Norn why not bring back more GW1 hairstyles? There are so many that are amazing looking from GW1. Make a hairstyle design contest, 3 per race!Make a costume design contest! Just imagine all the buttcapes that won't exist or clunky armors that we just shrug to.
  21. Here's a thought, when equipping multiple legendaries, have a checkbox that allows you to choose what foot-trail you want to show! (double legendaries, sometimes offhand legendary has better foot-trail or "foot-fall" than primary) I have 2 mainhand legendaries and 1 offhand legendary but I prefer my Ipos footfall over bolt/ incinerator. It's probably a dumb idea & would be super buggy. Just a thought though.
  22. updated dungeons, new race (tengu) improved/ fixed secondary professions/ new profession bc tengu/ housing / marriageMostly tengu playable race & new professions
  23. Tengu, they have actual ties to gw1 and can be introduced with Cantha if there is a cantha expac. Aside from dwarves, Tengu make the most sense.
