  1. But, but... many people don't like them. They LOVE them.I'm one of those - I had no intention of getting the new WvW lobby since I don't care much for that game mode and the Mistlock one is still my favorite, until... I learned the new lobby had a JP in it. That did it for me - I shelled out 1k gems just to get access to that JP, and it was worth every gem.
  2. I think the premise of comparing performance to other mounts is mistaken - firstly because it's subjective to personal gameplay, secondly each mount is by design supposed to be unique and this one certainly is. It gives you the ability to still-hover anywhere, indefinitely - this will be more or less useful and fun for different players but it's objectively unique. For me personally, it makes exploring from the air so much better, it's like you have access to a satellite or those special free-motion cameras that devs use when putting together a map; even more so when looking for specific stuff, like doing the collections, it saved me A LOT of time and energy having the bird's eye view and being able to stall, go down and back up at will, quick and easy... I basked in the irony, using the very mount I was hunting items to unlock. Also, it does go higher than the Springer if you factor in Bond of Vigor or Volatile-magic globs - it is also more precise since you can hold still and fine-tune your movement whereas with the bunny you have to get the one jump right or (in some cases) you'll fall off to oblivion. I also enjoy the "tactical" planning, looking in advance for subsequent ledges to ensure you'll be able to refill the meter and keep going up as needed... and finally, it can reach places the Springer never will such as chopper tops or hollow domes enclosed behind a horizontal flight path - this mount stands out through the combination of vertical and horizontal movement more, much more than any other. The one thing I felt was "missing" would be a sort of angle indicator when gliding since that makes all the difference when trying to not dip in to the flight endurance but I guess that would be a little too fluffy in a way.
  3. Go stand on Kralkatorrik's Tail. when it moves you get flip upward into the air :D lol I did go up there and waited (I think it rattles up every 10 mins) - would've been great to add a hidden achievement for this. Edit: I agree, the physical map is wonderful (though for achievements I still think Jahai Bluffs with Sun's Refuge was the best one) above all because the dragon that's been around for many years, elusively branding lands and peoples is actually present here (unlike Mordremoth who even during the meta is somewhat hidden away) and his body is a living part of the explorable environment; from his Shackled Grasp, that hanging wing-garden we took part in doing to his huge moving tail, it makes this map absolutely unique - the initial instance was not only fun but drew us in to create the map itself... brilliant.
  4. Yeah, this one is required for the Mastery meta achievement; I was hoping the hidden Skyscale collection achs. would get added onto the Mastery list (like the ones for Requiem armor in Ep. 4 were) but nah.
  5. aoe-burst melts all mobs, "Here they are!" Norn female everything, though - particularly the default-appearance Elementalist. Make one and you will see why.
  6. You need to do events in the respective areas; for the Crystal Bloom faction it is to the west, Ember Forest areas. Go to their outpost to the NW of the map and look for the scout there, they'll tell you which events are underway and by clicking on each they'll get tracked for you on the UI - these are the events that count for the respective Volatile vendor back at Pact Outpost.
  7. I have to agree with the sentiment here... though i personally don't mind too much waiting out a few days, this game has been about offering an enjoyable experience for casual players, not a min-max system that's very typical of vertical-progression games and in the end only thwarts and stresses people out; but on top of that we have the Spirit Shards XP bar locked out... this is really bad.
  8. Try it when the daily 4 events in Desolation comes up, I'd say you'll have a very good chance at completing at the least the Maw one.
  9. Isn't even there an achievement - with a title - for crafting the same legendary twice?
  10. I do, but it's not a big enough feature for an expac compared to gliding and mounts Yeah certainly not on the same level but still a meaningful system that could also be used for events and even integrated with future fishing mounts, for example. Not just another craft - really a system with a lot of expanding potential.
  11. This daily reward system as it is today is the best I've seen in any MMO - the dailies are usually effortlessly done and even when I (rarely) don't have time I just log in to progress on the daily calendar for bonus rewards. It was bad without a cap, ANet fixes it and people still complain... they offer 2g both pre and past the cap, JPs, dungeons, xpack dailies, etc., people still complain... honestly guys, I think you're missing the point - this isn't why you should play, the best reward is playing the game for the fantasy, story, combat mechanics, animations, build-crafting, exploration, what have you... this here is the metagame, side systems maybe interesting and fun to dabble in but by no means the core of the experience.Once you start focusing and worrying about these side, bonus systems an incredibly huge and diversified game feels no better than Solitaire and discussions like this really only obfuscate what THIS game is about.
  12. The Asura are all over the place really with several fully fleshed-out characters, the Norn on the other hand after Eir's death are pretty much left aside and forgotten. Braham always seemed like a side character to me, he's grown over the past few episodes yet can't build anything around him - he'd be great to tag along but any storyline about the Norn would need a few other main, stronger, deeper characters. One such could be Gaerta who's been absent, wandering the wide world since release - her return could trigger a lot of interesting plots.
  13. The "Cultural Armor" was too cheap for an x-pack though, lol but the design is lovely, love the icons for the new elite specs (especially the necro one) and the mounts, damn... and that Largos capital city, such tease.
  14. I certainly am aware that Chinese, Korean, Japanese - and others such as Mongolian, Thai, etc. - cultures have had their identity for a long time... just as the counter-examples in Africa and Scandinavia I mentioned. The question here is, this is fiction: of course it's going to be based off of real cultures to some extent but it is not a deliberate reproduction of anything particularly Chinese. Even if, say, there's a story-arc that clearly elaborates upon some well-known tale either from Chinese history or mythology, that is still valid fictional work. If China has laws forbidding such practice, that is for China to censor them or do whatever they deem appropriate, in their jurisdiction. Over here, we allow and value (since Antiquity at least), in our literary tradition, depicting, re-imagining and freely referencing to history and lore.
  15. I don't get the complaints about Cantha, lol... did or do we get complaints from Africans or Middle East countries and people about Elona? Have there been complaints from the Scandinavians about the Norn?Seriously...
  16. Probably because GW1 was a human centric game... Yes it was but now we play GW2... no doubt Cantha would be a huge marketing and community boost but for the next 2 or 3 expansions, no more humanity in it, please. So many great stories left to be told about the origins of the Asura, the Charr and the Titans, and the always forgotten Norn... please find a way to send Kasmeer, Marjory, Anise, Faren and all the sugar-coated cute faces from DR to the Mists for years to come. The one thing I really miss from GW1 is the tone of the story-telling - let all the cutsey and quipping for Taimi already, she's doing it tolerably well, but have the other races and characters have some dramatic gravity and cruelness to their past and fate.If for the next expansion story we still have Kas or Jory in them weeping and longing... that'll kill it for me.
  17. It's activities like this one that turn a great expansion into something extraordinarily delightful. But all it lasts is 10 steps, through perfect targeting mechanics and ambient dialog that's just too much fun.I really wish this one took us double the time, or the ingredients - or both! or could we please have this character-bound, instead?I don't mind a little fun task on the side, but this MP is the perfect balance between challenge and entertainment that's just beyond fun. In all honesty, thanks devs for such a cool, unique touch on a mastery point - keep it up!
