  1. The gamer designer left after the core game of GW2 was complete(Who they are is a long story ) , HoT was already another team because of this the whole philosophy of GW 2 changed.Raids , the new bar , the punishing maps, and to some degree the fractals because they replaced the dungeons. The core member of the legacy Gild from GW1 I joined hate it because it is so not Guild Wars also I was promised not to be very causal friendly were basically thrown out of the window with HoT. PoF we all like so far if we talk about maps and the story. I think people also often forget how old the players became when you started with Gw1 when you were 15(2005) you are now 27 and we are all older then this While some people did leave, everytime in their AMAs this comes up and they have devs popping up to answer questions that have been with Anet since GW1. Why do you try to insist that no one on the team worked on GW1?
  2. Resistance is already a perfect counter to conditions. Its already far too strong, we definitely do not need to add even more things to make conditions weaker. We just need to reduce access to condition application and then severely reduce access to resistance.
  3. I would go with "be glad that Arena.Net gets a bit more in touch with their players" My intention with this post is to have a direct communication with our players. I don't NEED you to tell me how to do my job...but I WANT to know what our fans think. If asking our fans about marketing is not a good idea I won't in the future, as I didn't when I worked at Square Enix or Activision Blizzard, but I saw value in what the GW2 community had to say...and luckily this lead to predominantly constructive feedback and communication. Pay him no mind. Some people are just all too willing to jump down throats for no reason at all. I think that this communication is amazing honestly! Not least because it gives you real feedback as to how people who aren't involved in making the videos (AKA unbiased opinions) see them, and what we get out of them. Please continue to reach out to the community with new ideas, or if you need new ideas.
  4. GW1 also didn't have traits, no? Traits can completely change how a skill functions, which makes it exponentially more difficult to balance said skill, because you not have it functioninig in severely different ways. In GW1 skills would get stronger as you leveled up some attributes, but they functioned the same.
  5. @"Mike Silbowitz.1827" I have 2 more points to add about marketing in general, not this video in particular. 1 - If its within your marketing budget, try to make 2 trailer/promotional videos for every release. 1 would be a regular trailer for people who already play the game. The other would be geared at potential new players, and should be advertised more. If its not within budget I completely understand, but what this would do is keep GW2 videos being pushed out pretty routinely. What this does for potential new customers - It shows them your release cadence. Getting new promo videos every 2-3 months, each one showing something completely new? They don't know that you guys release content that quickly. It shows them the variety of releases that we get, I'm envisioning separate videos for LW releases, fractals and raids, even if they drop on the same day. It also gives you the chance to make narrower videos, giving you significantly more time in each video to highlight content and features. 2 - Take a look at WoodenPotatoes getPoF contest (http://woodenpotatoes.com/getpof/). Its a contest for the community to make their own promo videos about GW2. The community as a whole has a lot more time to make videos than you guys do, just because there are so many more of us. And yes, a lot of them will not be on the same level as a professional promotion video, but some of them are. Now, I bring this up because I think that you guys can and should sponsor similar contests roughly once or twice a year, with the stipulation that you are allowed to use the top X videos as promotional videos. You can offer some prices too, gems, signed artwork etc... whatever you want. But I think that this would be huge, not least because it would blow up the number of quality trailers for the game as a whole, which gets it more recognition.
  6. I like it, but I feel like it doesn't have any information for potential new players. Quick list of the top things that could be improved "Its a beautiful map" - Let the art speak for itself. I have never seen an MMO whose art quality comes anywhere near close to that of GW2. Personally I think it speaks for itself, if you guys feel that it doesn't, maybe a small disclaimer at the bottom stating that this is actual in game footage, and not some CGI trailer?"Mounts are the best addition so far" - Well, as a player, I'm quite aware of how amazing mounts are in GW2, AND also of how different they are from other games. But stepping back, if I knew nothing about GW2, but I had heard about WoW (or even played it before), and saw this, I wouldn't know that WoW mounts aren't even in the same league as GW2 mounts, because there is nothing to say that. What would probably be going through my mind is that GW2 is playing catch up by just now adding a feature that WoW has had for years. Add onto that the fact that you just show players traveling on mounts, no movement abilities or engage abilities, and I would seriously be wondering why I would want to consider a game whose "greatest feature so far" was the addition of a mount that I don't know can do anything other than run quicker than the base runspeed (does this mess of a paragraph make sense? If not I'll try to reword it). I guess TL;DR - You have a quote about how great mounts are, but then you don't show how they are truly unique in GW2 from mounts in any other game."Loving this expac so much!" - I think this is great. It also doesn't say anything about the game. Why is the expac so great? What features make it so amazing?"New storyline is great!" - I like this a lot. It doesn't give any spoilers at all, yet still says that the storyline is really good2 more comments show up talking about how great the expac is - Look I get it, I really do. You want to sell that the expac is amazing. And I really do think it is! But so many comments in such a short video all saying the same thing feels forced to me. IDK, maybe this one is just me. Non comment related comments It focuses entirely on PoF. Now there is nothing wrong with this, but it doesn't mention, not even at the end, that the core game is Free. I think this is huge marketing honestly. Telling people that they can try the core game for free, and only have to pay for the expansions, means that they don't have to drop money on the game to try it. I know that other games offer free trials, but GW2 IS free if you play the core game. This should be included in every trailer you guys make that is intended for non players to watch in my opinion.Features, features, features. The only feature mentioned in the trailer is mounts, but it doesn't talk about why they are so much better in GW2 than in any other MMO. It doesn't talk about their purpose, their movement abilities, the griffon, nothing. No mention of the amazing combat system that GW2 has. Regardless of the quibbles that people might have over balance, I don't think anyone would say that the underlying combat system is not one of the best made. Basically, to sum it all up, you have a very pretty trailer which doesn't sell GW2. It doesn't mention any features outside of mounts, but even those it makes no mention of why they arne't your boilerplate MMO mount. It doesn't mention that the base game is F2P. It doesn't tell a viewer why they should give it a try.
  7. Not the biggest fan of the claw, but the book itself is amazing. And I can overlook the claw for the book.
  8. At some point, they have to. There are some professions who already using most of the weapons, sure they can do a whole new Elite Specs Collection for our 3rd expansion, but what happens after that? Yeah we still got a few weapons more to add for each profession such as;Pistol, Scepter and Focus, Staff, Shortbow for Warrior.Dagger, Pistol, Warhorn, Rifle and Shortbow for Guardian.... Yeah fine, we have a few more to go indeed, but a new weapon mechanism would be a new, fresh way to cheer and hype the playerbase up. Polearm for an example would be a great additional as it was original going to be a weapon along with the other collection but was somehow cut from the plans. A - There is a minimum of 5 new elite specs required before Warrior is capable of using all weapons currently in the game (6 absolute minimum if you want to include an underwater expansion), and that's assuming he gets double pistols in a single elite spec B - There's nothing saying a new elite spec for a class can't reuse the same weapon an older one used C - You 100% ignored my comment and didn't even try to respond to what I said. Making a new weapon type is significantly harder than just making a few animations. You would need dozens of skins to start with, for player choices. You would need to add the ability for multiple classes to use that weapon, because try justifying to Anet as a company why so much effort should go into a weapon type that only a single class can use. At that point you are looking into expanding multiple classes, so you would have to then expand all of them to be fair. And all of this would really bring nothing of value to the game. There is still plenty of design space left to use the current weapons. Even more once Anet starts using MH only weapons in OH or vice versa, or experimenting with elite specs turning single handed weapons into 2H weapons.
  9. We aren't getting any new weapon types. It would be far more work than you gives think it would be. It would involve significantly more than just making a few new animations.
  10. Not every weapon type makes sense for every profession. A new weapon type will be rejuvenating for the game for sure. In Crystal Oasis, in the demo, there was an off-duty cavalier fist-fight taking place inside the casino. They were using animations I don't think I have seen before implemented in-game.These animations could easily be used for the creation of fist weapons. Plus, a lot of focus skins look like fist weapons. From the point I am standing, this doesn't even look like a hard job. Because a GS totally makes sense for a magic based dueling class...... Anet has shown an incredibly ability to adapt weapons to every profession. If you had told me at launch that mesmer was going to wield a shield and an axe I would have laughed at you, because those aren't duelists weapons. But here we are, and they were done so well that it feels like I'm missing something when I am not running chrono or mirage and can't use their weapons. The argument of "not every weapon type makes sense for every profession" doesn't cut it in GW2 with ANet's design team.
  11. that removed the purpose of feather foot grace, its resistance is there to remove movement impairing effects, if resist does not do this then.... it becomes... useless That's not even the purpose, like @Crinn.7864 pointed out. And even if this was the purpose of the trait, its easy enough to change it to just cleanse those conditions instead of giving resistance were resistance to be nerfed.
  12. SB's access to resistance is not the problem. The problem is how powerful resistance is as a boon. It needs to be nerfed, hard. It should not be providing full immunity from all conditions. At best it should probide 100% damage reduction from conditions, but not ignore the secondary effects. but even that is too strong honestly.
  13. How is fishing any better than farming mastery experience? In the end its a repetitive task. If you get bored of grinding experience, go explore a zone in more detail. Find all of those little nooks and easter eggs you never noticed before. Follow event chains through to completion in core Tyria (seriously, once you finish an event, wait for a minute or two and almost always a new event will start, continuing a mini storyline that sticks to that area. Its amazing, and at the end there are cute little dialogues usually). Go finish all of your elite specs. Go for world completion. Try jumping puzzles. Collect armor/weapon skins, collect dyes. Collect minis/finishers. If you are bored in this game, fishing will not help your problem. There is already so much to do in the game that you almost have to choose to be bored, and hence adding fishing will just not help you for more than a few minutes.
  14. Why do none of these polls ever have an option for those players who don't want to see another race? If you are having a poll, make it a fair one to see how many people really want a new race vs those who don't
  15. Typical "I can get it so everyone who can't is lame." I know where the ingredients are, I know the chef's path, and I know how to play it. But every time I've tried it he asks for ingredients on opposite sides of the room, back and forth, back and forth, and I run out of time. You got it? Good for you. It's frustrating for many players posting here and for who knows how many that don't post. I agree with the above suggestion to make it a hero point instead of a mastery point. P.S. There's a reason the other sous chef is off crying in a corner in the kitchen. I didn't call anyone "lame", all I said is that it takes some practice. But good on you for someone taking offense at that. The difficulty of this is fine, here are some tips for this exact situation though if you are still struggling. After you throw it at him, go run to the middle of the room. This potentially cuts the distance you have to run in half, and you have to wait for him to tell you the next ingredient anyway so its not like you are wasting timeIf you are too far away, pick up a different item and use Skill 1 to get the swiftness from it to get there faster. All this takes is some practice, its really not as overtuned as people say it is
  16. IDK what people are complaining about. I avoided it until yesterday because people were complaining so loudly about it and I didn't want to waste the little free time I had on it. I spent 3 tries learning where the ingredients where, and then on the fourth I completed it with no problem. Its not a hard challenge, really. It just takes some spatial awareness on your part, and knowing where to run for the next ingredient as soon as he yells it at you.
  17. Honestly, to me all of these are bad options. I don't really want any of them at all, I don't think they would add anything to the game.
  18. I really don't see the need for new weapon types in this game. I mean, even warrior, the class who can currently wield the most weapons in the game, still has 6 open weapon slots, allowing for 6 more elite specs before he runs out just with the current weapons (or 5 if he gets dual pistols in a single spec like he got dual daggers). Even at that point though, assuming GW3 isn't out yet, there's nothing preventing a new warrior elite from re-using a weapon a previous one used. Nothing stopping the new one from re-using torch for instance. Plus, on the other hand, we already have plenty of open "slots" for weapons. Scepter could be adapted as a second hand weapon for an elite spec, torch/focus/warhorn could be adapted as mainhand weapons for some elite specs (and shield too as a stretch for an extremely defensive oriented spec). There's just no need for new weapon types, and no matter how they would be implemented it would have huge drawbacks ("wasted" dev time by creating skins for them for every existing set and recipes for making them, despite it not being new content. Or having an extremely limited set of skins for these new weapons, which you can bet real money on would definitely piss off a lot of players who play fashion wars).
