At least Humans are objectively the worst race in the game for racials

While racial skills don't matter for over 90% of gameplay, sometimes they do. We've seen Human and Sylvari racials top benchmarks and we've seen Asura babble builds, but at the end of the day I'd say Norn is the best race. Leopard is just a utility elite that Norn have and other races don't. Bear has uses as well such as heat room. Thank you for your time and remember- your human female can't become the snow leopard.

Funny you mention that as there is a fawn model (also with rock antlers) that hangs out with the standard rock gazelle model. This would lead me to believe the adult model is female but the rock deer argument has merit.

This would be something that's both tanky and has decent aoe. Jacaranda and River Drake come to mind.

Sylvan has outbenched OOP for Soulbeast before as well. The reality is that it has been meta before and has a potential to be meta again some day.

The current Meta. If some day in the future condi becomes king again, so will Sylvari if the balance between elites isn't changed. I was initially asking if this was the case, but can now confirm that it is.

Yeah so people are correct when they say ANet designed the racials to never be best in slot in order to keep races balanced. What's important to realize is that there have been times where this has failed, and it usually lands on Ranger. Back when Condi was king the issue actually started with Take Root. ANet did respond to this and nerfed it, but Sylvan Hound just took its place. Surprisingly, ANet never nerfed the Hound but the issue still went away for now as Power Soulbeast is on top. If a new Ranger had to pick a race today though, Sylvari may be safest bet in case Rangers meta shifts back towards condi. Other issues also came up with Human Thief w/ Melandru, and Sylvari Mesmer. For a little bit people were asking racials to be banned in instanced content.

The thread is not talking about present day meta builds Regardless, I did receive my answer elsewhere. Should condi or core Ranger rise again Sylvari will still be the best race, as Hound still benchmarks higher than Entangle. Have a good day everyone.

So far I believe the point is being missed. I am not trying to force use a racial, but there have been times when Sylvan Hound has been meta and I was wondering if anyone thinks it's possible we may have a situation like that again some day.

Still? Sylvan outperformed it in PoF for core I don't see any changes in either ability for EoD so I imagine it'd still be superior in this case

But for core Ranger is Sylvari still the best? Yeah but sometimes they shine through. Become the Bear in that fractal I forget the name of for example.

Last time I was playing Sylvan Hound was higher dps than all other elites for core and condi Ranger. Is this no longer the case?

Hello all. Coming back after a few years and starting fresh on a new toon. Was wondering if Sylvari was still the strongest race for Ranger with the occasional Sylvan Hound use. Yes, I know the difference is extremely minor and don't need the "play what looks good" stuff. Thanks in advance!

Race does not matter, and yes I intend to use better/meta pets. Just looking for the best starter pet that may be used for some cases endgame, regardless of race.

I'm not asking for a pet that would be the only pet I'd use. I'm asking if there's a starter pet who doesn't eventually end up never being used.

So I'm considering a return to GW2 and Ranger and was looking for people's opinions on the best starter pet, as none of the options seem too useful end game. This is not me asking best pet to start with for a new player or for leveling - this is me wondering if any of the starter pets find use in endgame be it open world, raiding, fractals etc. One example would be brown bear finds use on Dhuum I think. Essentially I feel a bond with the first set of pixels my toon will start with, and want to make sure they don't end up permanently shelved as time goes on. Character race does not matter.
