The potential of fighting in some abyssal, tentacled maw deep under the ocean was a dark aesthetic that the GuildWars 2 franchise could have benefited well from! But that's my Lovecraftian fetishism speaking haha.  But also from the view of someone who works in a creative industry, the art team would have  had a field day with something like that!

Might still happen - if they are going with the "it wasn't the DSD that destroyed the underwater civilisations but there was still something that did, it might well turn out that the tentacled horrors that were believed to be the DSD's minions still exist, they just weren't hers.

If you go by the big Jade statue in KC thre is a Priory person that mentions that the Quaggen and Krait were driven out by something bad that only surfaced after bubbles left for Cantha.  so we have a set up for a big bad Cthulhu like monster in the depths still that is now completely unknown to us . Which is brilliant we after all know enough about elder dragons that they are not that spooky any more  but something scary that was being held back by a elder dragon that is the type of thing we need

Still, such a retcon leaves a bitter taste, especially for those of us who were excited to see DSD as a Lovecraftian monstrosity spawning evil dragon.

Not really though, since the retcon keeps the dream alive for those of us who’ve wanted it for years rather than the story we got of Soo-Won just stomping it out and that’s it. If they actually do an expansion on that idea, then we can have our cake and eat it to - the ‘good guy’ elder dragon plot without losing the horrors in the deep plot

This is the way I understood it, too. 

On top of this, we still have Isles of Janthir, the Human Gods and lands far to the north (where Jormag awoke) left. Not to mention all the expanded areas to the south, west and east.

Oh, and the wizard's tower.
