Mechanist Suggestions, Please?

I'm looking to do a Mechanist and use a Rifle. The problem that I'm finding is that Mechanist seems to lend itself to Condition Damage, where Rifle seems to be all about Strike damage. So, I have two questions:

1. Anyone have suggestions for the skill trees & skills (Not gear, since I can't really get pink gear reliably yet) I should do to get a good Strike Damage Mechanist going?
2. Should I switch to Pistols and just embrace the Condition Damage?

Power DPS Mechanist has been nerfed to hell and as far as DPS goes, it is trash.

 

The only reason people bring Mechanist in group is for Alacrity. Well you could play Condi DPS Mech but the rotation is pretty hard. But if you're planning to do open world stuff, I guess you can kinda get away with it although I would recommend running condition with Celestial gear.

 

With that out of the way, and assuming you're going to do group content, it's hard to recommend a build if we dont know what gear you're running. For Power DPS you can definitely run something like this :

I mostly play with some RL friends in PvE, and sometimes guildmates,  but thank you for the info! 🙂
If Power DPS is that horrible, maybe I should embrace Condi...

 

Edit: I embraced Condi damage. Got gear from the AH alternating between Condi Damage & Expertise..

Power DPS mech is trash tier dont play it, anet also buther the rifle auto attack. If you want to play mech either play AlacDPS or better learn the amazing omg fun AlacHeal version. If you really really want to play mech pure DPS yeah power is trash, learn the condi variant.

Don't listen to the doomers.

Power may not be as good as condi but outside T4 fractal CMs, raids and strike CMs, power mechanist is still plenty strong considering that it's a near-afk build.

Outside of T4 fractals, raid and strike CM...So that means in open world where literally nothing is weak. Unless you mean PvP in which case bringing a Mechanist is just giving your own team a handicap. Or maybe it is WvW where not only the damage is garbage like in PvP but on top of that you deal with permanent projectile reflect.

Power dps is easly enough for anything you'll want to do. If power rifle is what you want to play, there's nothing standing in your way to do exactly that.

yup i second this. its straight forward and easy to get the bench mark.. condi mech.. i never see good ones. just finished a t4 fractal run with my alac mech. was top dps on a few of them. and they weren't a bad group. so yeah with a bench mark of 26k on alac mech on snow crows.. looks crap, but it's always hitting.

dont go condi.. its awful.
