New player - question regarding hero points.

Hello dear community. Ive played GW 2 years ago back when there were no expansions to speak of and decided to come back to the game by buying Path of Fire. Unfortunately Ive lost my old account and I couldnt upgrade it with said expansion. Now to my shock, I found out that to train the elite specialization I need hundreds of hero points. Correct me if I wrong but doesn`t hero point challenges award you with just ONE hero point? Are there other faster means of getting hero points? Thanks in advance and sorry for the noob question.

Hey there! The hero points in central Tyria do give you just one point each, but once you get to Heart of Thorns, those are worth 10 points each. (They are harder, though, and you might need a group, or to follow a HP train for some of them.) Not sure how many you get on Path of Fire.EDIT: Yeah, you get ten hero points from each in Path of Fire, too. And those are more solo-able than the HoT ones.

Thank you very much. 10 points each is ok. Ish. It`s still a LOT of work till 200+. Thank Dwayna that i get my specialization fully unlocked in SPVP... Cheers!

There are HP trains regularly in HoT, tag along on one and you'll have the spec in no time! While some HoT challenges need a group (or a really good solo player) there are also plenty that don't even need fights.

As a test, I took my lvl 60 Warrior to VB and managed to get 6/11 HPs done. If anything hit her she was dead, so some took more than one try. This of course requires a certain familiarity with the map (and a few masteries leveled), but still illustrates that you can get a good bit solo.

This. A well organized HoT HP train will take about 2.5 to 3 hours and give you 330 hero points from Verdant Brink, Auric Basin and Tangled Depths. Dragon's Stand has another 7 challenges (all simple communes), 3 of which are accessible (though somewhat tricky to reach) without doing the meta event. So that's 360 to 400 HPs for a reasonable effort. Getting the remaining 100 - 130 HPs to unlock both elite specs means either doing a lot of the central Tyrian challenges or exploring the PoF maps a bit.

Just a note - in addition to the 10-point locations, even collecting the 1 point HPs is not very time-consuming once you have a mount. You'll want to establish waypoints and clear portions of the maps anyway, so while running around just grab any HP that is convenient.

As a player who returned after being gone for 5 years, I found trying to keep up with the HP trains in HoT to be a bit challenging, so I worked through them individually, learning how to move around HoT maps on my own. I think the HP trains work a lot better for those more familiar with HoT's vertically stacked maps and who have the masteries needed to get around - Basic Gliding, Bouncing Mushrooms, and Updraft Gliding. Once you get those three, HoT maps are suddenly hugely more accessible. After that, get Itzel Poison Lore, Nuhoch Wallows, and Ley-Line Gliding as soon as you can, in my opinion.

You need 250 points to max out each elite specialization.

There are 110 hero points in Verdant Brink:https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/List_of_hero_challenges_in_Verdant_Brinkhttp://dulfy.net/2015/10/25/gw2-verdant-brinks-hero-points-guide/

There are 110 hero points in Tangled Depths:https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/List_of_hero_challenges_in_Tangled_Depthshttp://dulfy.net/2015/10/27/gw2-tangled-depths-hero-points-guide/

There are 70 hero points in Dragon's Stand:https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/List_of_hero_challenges_in_Dragon%27s_Standhttp://dulfy.net/2015/11/02/gw2-dragons-stand-hero-points-and-strongboxes-guide/

That's 400 hero points total, not the 500 you need to fully unlock two elite specializations, but you have a lot of leftover hero points from level-up rewards (398 total) and Central Tyria (200 total). My main character did all of the Central Tyria HPs, all of the HoT HPs, bought all of the skills, specializations and elite specializations, and still has 101 HPs left, meaning I started HoT with 201 HP. If you level up to 80 and do all of the Central Tyria HPs first, you will only need to do five Hero Challenges in HoT to max out one elite specialization, and you can skip the ten hardest HoT HPs and still max out two elite specializations.

And you can earn 290 HPs in PoF. I'll be ending up with 391 extra HPs. Seems like there's plenty of room for a third elite specialization, unless there's something else to spend HPs on that I don't know about.

Not quite. If you level from 1-80 and do no other challenges, you get enough HPs to finish the core skills and traits. That is it. No left overs. (Because these lines need to be fully completed before you spend points in Elite lines)Fully unlocking core skills =98 hero points.Fully unlocking core traits =300 hero points.=398.

There are 904 challenge/commune HPs spread over core, HoT, PoF and WvW.

I ‘banked’ HPs on all 9 professions in preparation of PoF and unlocked the PoF elites on its release.

To the OP, I’d get stuck into the PoF maps and get as many of those HPs as you can, 10pts each and all are soloable. There’s 29 HPs (290pts) so plenty to unlock spellbreaker.
