Latency/Ping/FPS Issues [merged]

Recommended Posts

Experiencing unusally high latency as of this evening. Never had any issues before. Started around 19:00 UTC. I did a tracert just like abcruziii.9405. Hope this might be of help. I'm in Germany, my ISP is Unitymedia and I also noticed I only seem to have problems on map IPs starting with 18. - don't know whether this is of any significance or not.

@Gaile Gray.6029 said:Having said the above, there have been intermittent DDOS attacks over the last several days. Our teams are taking mitigation measures available to them, and are devising alternative measures, but there may be some impact on the game.

Can you acknowledge that some of us get higher ping not just because of the ddos but because the server is moved to EC2 as well.

They already have. The servers were moved from Texas to Virginia, so naturally the ping is going to be higher for everyone on the west coast. It should only be around 25-50ms higher however; any higher is a problem with the route. If you're within that range, you simply have to accept it as your new standard.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/7doj1l/anet_can_we_please_get_an_actual_way_of_checking/dpzhpyd/https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/7g7wds/living_world_season_4_daybreak_devs_here_ask_us/dqh8nf0/

In short, moving to the east coast was better for the majority, though their only other choice would have been Amazon's west coast datacenter, assuming they had to leave NCSoft. The funny thing however is mentioning Amazon's better connectivity with other networks, but in the above traces, it's actually Amazon's own network that is the cause of the high ping fluctuations.

When exactly was the server moved from NCSoft to Amazon for EU? I did the diagnostic and the tool still points to NCSoft server, or is it only for US servers?

Also, current status of mine: Still laggy. 700-1k Ping. Can't play. From Germany using Unitymedia. It seems that there was a wide blackout since 11 AM today. I could not access the telephone or internet. Connection was back 15 mins ago, but the ping is still high in-game (but the internet is fine to use for other stuff)

its US only afaik

i am sitting in germany aswell. unitymedia hessen (close to frankfurt). i am having high ping (3k +) only between ~7pm to ~12pm ... since dec. 6.i've had the same issue at the beginning of this year (march to may) and 2016 during july.using a vpn solved it and got me down to a ping of ~50ms.tbh i have just been waiting for it to happen again. no other game/webservice is affected (e.g. eve online, d3, aion online, netflix, ESO, wildstar, BDO...) its just gw2 :(

Same here. I'm sitting near Cologne in Germany, ISP Unitymedia NRW. Normally I have a ping between 70-100. Over the last 2 weeks I had some lag issues but mostly in sPvP.But this week it's yesterday and today where I can't really play - Lagspikes up to 1000+, regardless of map or game mode (tried PvE, sPvP and WvW). All other internet stuff and other games work without issues. Can't speak for times before 5 pm cuz work and stuff... So it is unplayable now. I'm starting to regret my buy of the PoF deluxe edition a few days ago since I can't see a reaction by Anet outside of the DDOS Attack stuff a few weeks ago.

Same thing here :'( Germany, Cologne + Unitymedia, started yesterday (haven't played during the day so since about 7pm?) and still continues. Get disconnected every couple of minutes, frequent ping spikes to 700. No problems in other games & general speed is good, only gw2 is affected

exactly the same thing here, also germany, cologne, unitymedia. lag spikes started yesterday and are still going on tonight. all other games/streaming sites/etc work without delay.

arenanet, could we at least get some kind of sign that it's being recognised that there is something going on here? it's really annoying.

It has been suggested many times by many people to run pingplotter or traceroute to determine where the problem is. If the results show the problem at the Anet servers (Amazon), then submit a support ticket so it can get addressed. The majority/most of the time, the issue is with "your" route to the servers. This is something that Anet has no control over. Your route is controlled by your ISP and they are the only ones who can fix it. If they won't then you can try a VPN service to force your connection to take a different route. An issue with the game servers would affect "every" single player not just some people. How internet speed tests and other games/services preform means nothing because they are located in different areas and your connection to them takes a different route.

I expected this answer. So you say WE have to do something when everything was ok for months or even years and every other game works? Sorry I don't think so. Anet showed that it can work. Also I don't think an ISP would change their routes or whatever because I say them to do so because I can't play one(!) single game. I'd like to add I'm no networking specialist and won't even recognize where the problem is if I run pingplotter/traceroute. And I neither have the time nor the leisure to learn about it. because the problem isn't on my end.

I can play any other games with 20-50 ping. GW2 used to be the same (usually bumped me around 40-60) but when I log in nowadays it's way over 300 most of the time and spikes to 1k. All other online games (such as League or PUBG) give me around 20-50 ping still (I can literally be in a 20 ping game of League and be sitting on 1k'ish ping in GW2 at the same time). Sad day. I really like the game but I can't really play it at all sadly. Feels like money wasted on PoF tbh.

Haha file a support ticket so it can get addressed.....filed support ticket because the issue seems to be within the Anet servers (ping to other sites remained the same including NCSoft itself). I have been sent the most patronising and dumb fixes that any sensible person would do before filing said ticket. Support haven't got a clue what it's like to play from a location outside the States and have no clue about offering useful/constructive fixes. The last reply told me to repair GW2....like that's going to help the additional ping from a longer route to server. face palm

Some respect for their player base and a simple acknowledgement of latency issues would be a refreshing change....but it is all hidden under DDOS or....the old hoary chestnut....it's your ISP (when it's clearly not).

@ardhikaizecson.3697 said:I think i can say that the problem is exclusively to NA server only, at least for me, just created a second account and picked Europe, and the ping is really low, around 180ms while in NA the lowest I can get is 220ms and it was before anet migrates the server to NA, logged in to my primary account in NA and got 500 ping.

The issue is that the latency occurs at certain times of the day, and persists for about 1 to 2hrs. It's possible you logged into your EU account while the issue wasn't happening. I've found that my NA issue occurs around OCX/SEA prime time (around 1230ish UTC) consistently these past few days.
