Latency/Ping/FPS Issues [merged]

Recommended Posts

I am just curious if anyone else is having really bad server connections in-game? The lag for me and some of my friends makes it almost unbearable to play. I get kicked out of the game once every minute. I've been trying to figure out how I can fix this, or where it's coming from.

Are the servers just unstable because of the high player increase since PoF's release? Or is it Comcast; my network provider? Or can it be my router? My friends that have been experiencing the same problems have Comcast. My router is high end and rather new, but I am getting it looked at today to see if it will improve the connection to the Gw2 server. But maybe Arenanet is just having problems with the high population of players at the moment.

Does anyone have any advice on where this is coming from and how I can fix it? I have tried about everything. Some days it's pretty clean, other days it makes it impossible to play without ping spikes ranging from 100-4k.

Yep, read everything and so far I dont like their response. Claiming " it's from some other cause" is a joke when this issue started when they moved further away the servers. Please Anet dont wash your hands like Pontious Pilate did.The real question remains unanswered though:What is Anet going to do about this issue?Come on sirs WE PAID FOR THE GAME as well. We are also consistent paying for gems.Deciding to benefit the majority (or so you claim) for the server shift, it doesnt mean that you should throw away the minority after they have paid for your game. That minority is also a big number as well. Please Anet dont just throw us away. WE LOVE YOUR GAME.Let us know you acknowledge this issue and let us know what are you planning to do to resolve this, starting by giving an official statement.Thanks.

Hello anet! me and my friend is experiencing really high lag spikes since nearly 10 days-2 weeks of time , we live in Ankara-Turkey and we used to play in 90-250 ping but it doesnt even get under 300 now , 300-4k I have seen most and my friend is having 300-6k range lag spikes. we tried clientport vpn contacted with internet provider checked connections and tried other games but the problem seems because of gw2 not us. What could you possibly suggest us to do more or is it a general problem that are you guys trying to solve may I ask? Because I really have some time to play guild wars day and night for couple of months and I can't even stay in the game for more than 3 minutes which is making playing the game impossible!

for more information I can also add my gw2 -diag logs if you guys want because I have tried every solution possible on your website too)

I am the friend^Agreed, even with different ISP ; ping spikes are hell. We tried different ports (including https 443) , different DNS servers, there no connection problem in our local area or city. (There is no way two different ISS has problem at the very same time), contacted with ISP they said there is no problem visible from their side. What I see from Reddit and Forums, server locations are changed. Not sure if is that change effecting us at the moment but, we really need help. Even staying connected is problem with current connection status.

Finally someone else too! Yeah, and I know it's not my computer. The guy came in to check and optimize our router awhile ago, and it should be making my gameplay be smooth. But when I logged back in, I had the same issues. So I think it is Arenanet's server itself, not the router, or network provider. Maybe after PoF was launched they didn't realize that the servers would be so full and laggy, causing these issues. Gw2 was just fine before the release, so it has to be unstable servers...

If it was unstable servers, the chances are everyone would be affected and they are not. That doesn't negate an issue on their end, but it increases the chances it is an issue somewhere between you and them (I would think it equally unlikely to be a problem directly with yourself). A 4k ping across all (I am assuming NA) servers would be creating an enormous amount of player feedback after all.

My advice is to submit a ticket and talk to their technical team. They can trace these issues from an isolated place and find out what the issue is. If in the event there is an issue their end, it will help them identify the issue more than saying "things are laggy". I've done this with multiple MMO companies in the past - always with an eventual positive outcome. If it is this Comcast whoever they are, then you will have narrowed down the problem to a conversation with them.

Okay, good news for me! The guy came back to change the cords for my router and modem, because they were old and not working. They apparently just gave us fast internet speed but low quality. Now it is fast internet speed and high quality. So I recommend having your cables fixed, because that worked for me.

@Shiroen.9028 said:Claiming " it's from some other cause" is a joke when this issue started when they moved further away the servers. The internet is a big place. There are lots of potential points of failure and no sure-fire ways to track them down. Every day, people get lag spikes for reasons that have nothing to do with moved servers; there's all sorts of room for coincidences. It could be that your route to ANet now takes a hop into a backbone service that isn't reliable or is throttling certain types of traffic. That's outside of ANet's control and is only tangentially connected to the move.

Please Anet dont wash your handsIf you read everything as you claim, you'd see that Dr Steph CW is constantly researching, testing, and trying to find alternatives.

Also: maybe you can find a way to phrase your comments without using inflammatory rhetoric.

The date and time (plus time zone) when the issue arose, or a smattering of sample dates/times when you've noticed the issue. If it's "ever since the [date] build, or "ever since the launch of Path of Fire," please note thatEver since the launch of Path of Fire, I've encountered sporadic latency issues through 12:00AM UTC to 8:00AM UTC in both AWS hosted maps with internal ip 10.xxx.xxx.xxx, or maps with 64.xxx.xxx.xxx if the gw2 client uses an application thread that connects to AWS. Noticed that the latency issue happens consistently around 10:00AM UTC to 1:00PM UTC. I've also tried changing /clientport to 443 but it doesn't help.

They moved/are in the process of moving NA servers from a central US location to an eastern US location. Basically everyone on the US west/center/SA/oceanic regions are going to get much higher ping than before. If you're mad about this like many others then voice your opinion. This is unacceptable and worse than the mount contraversy. Many oceanic players went from barely playable to unplayable while east coaster users get an unneeded ping boost.

I have noticed that my route to anet servers grew really long and convoluted since PoF launch. For some reason it goes through Texas before heading to Virginia, where the new servers are located. The result is an extra ~50 ms ping added to the already high South American latency.

Hello I just wanted to add myself to the list who have high ping. This is the case since last 2 (3?) weeks. It's not constantly, it comes in waves of1 or 2 hours of ping trouble, Im on EU server but it also happens at night (when amount of players are low). Getting disconnected (not to desktop, but to character selection), pretty annoying when playing the longer storymissions. Just got d/c'd during Shatterer event. No reward, I feel.... shattered ;)

My non-GW internet related speed is fine, internet browsers work fine, online gaming as well. Except GW2.

@abcruziii.9405 said:Changing my DNS to Norton ConnectSafe reduced my lag issue to a playable 250~280ms. I tried both Google DNS and OpenDNS, but those 2 didn't help.

You can choose to configure it for your pc or your router. I picked PC and policy A.

Where are you from? Using norton's dns servers didn't do anything for me.
