Except most of the time they werent either. You just needed to avoid key skills, and you were neither invulnerable, nor dead. Thats why the average fight lasted about a minute. And yes, unlike the current no-skill meta, the old meta required skill. But thats not an issue. It wasnt "impossible to get into" either, easy options existed, and while the skill ceiling was high, the skill floor wasnt. Hell, the biggest barrier of entry is macro, and not only did the february patch not make it easier, since its the only thing that matters anymore, not knowing it has become even more detrimental. Not only did the february patch not have to happen, it had to not happen. As you can tell from the freefalling PvP population. It made the game no more accessible for new players, but the lack of skill in the new meta pissed off veterans who leave.

Now if they'd delete condi rev, condi thief, and grenade holosmith from existence this game would be a lot better. However, ranger and necro are still far, far, far FAR too easy and I cannot tell the difference between a just installed gw2 ranger/necro and a rank1.

Ah yes. Lets delete the only classes left with medium damage. Do you want to make sure that the only way to kill sidenoders is to 3v1 them? Make knockbacks even more critical and any classes that dont have good ones even more useless? Also, you just said that the patch needed to happen to be accessible for new players, yet here you complain that its accessible for new players? Its also not like other classes are much better. The meta is currently entirely no-skill.

I 100% agree with this, and it's sad to see.

In the current low damage meta, a smart veteran focused on staying alive with a bunkery build is almost impossible to kill. Hell, even in the higher damage meta prior to the February 2020 patch, one of the primary issues a new person would have against a veteran would be that the new person couldn't do enough damage fast enough to kill the veteran. Vets know the kiting spots, the LoS spots, and the no-port spots. All of these things shrink the window of opportunity a new person has to pressure a veteran. Those kite/LoS/no-port spots are all the same now, just now veterans have the added bonus of nobody being able to hit them that hard. It's immensely difficult for a new player to challenge veterans; it never was easy before, and it's definitely harder now.

Of course, veterans can smell the return of the HoT bunker meta, the same meta that killed the already-weak chances of GW2 pvp becoming an esport. Many left, and more are probably leaving. So not only did the low-damage meta make it nearly impossible for a new player to challenge an experienced one, it also frustrates many of us who've been around. Lose-lose.

Theyre not even that powerful. Theyre just the only things left that do damage. And every build is brainless because of how low damage is right now.

The meta is entirely no skill, yes, that's the biggest issue right now imo.

Thats a direct result of the february patch. In fact, I would argue that it was, directly or indirectly, the goal of it.
