Ranger leveling

I have been looking to make an alt ranger and see a lot of LB/GS builds but wanting to see is LB and axe/axe a viable option?

In PvE? Sure. It's kinda redundant, but it works. You'll quickly find the axe/axe is a more balanced loadout than the LB set, and probably migrate to A/A+GS.

Anything can work in open world PvE, so keep in mind that the advices will often point toward "optimisation".

 

Now, here is what you need to know:

- Longbow is seen as a strike damage weapon.

- Shortbow is seen as a condition damage weapon.

- Greatsword is seen as a strike damage weapon.

- Axe main hand is seen as a condition damage weapon due to it's potent skill#2.

- Sword main hand is seen as a strike damage weapon.

- Axe off hand is seen as a strike damage weapon.

- Both torch and dagger off hand are seen as condition damage weapon.

- Warhorn would be a strike damage weapon but mainly seen as a utility weapon.

 

In group content, players will often expect you to have a coherent build and some might frown upon some irregularity like a strike damage build using Axe main hand.

For ranger  that is the combo you end up loving using anyway.  Longbow is very lacking in open world.

MH axe is a hybrid weapon and perfectly viable for power builds (same applies to mh dagger btw). Ranger also has a meta hybrid build that makes use of power, hybrid and condi weapons all mixed together.

That being said, synergy between gear, traits and weapons is certainly important. Not everything should be combined. It is just not always as straightforward as it might seem.

But then how does one tag everything for the aoe pile of death......  Just levelled a third ranger.  LB's extra range adds value for flying through everything and drawing them to a kill point.  but then levelling is a cake walk in this game.  

 

LB Axe/axe is viable although I prefer the mobility of GS and it's cleave power when levelling.
