  1. If they make staff/scepter viable options baseline, I won't complain about hammer. Not gonna like it. Not gonna use it. But I won't complain about it.
  2. Shields are fine. They are a defensive tool and grant defensive options. You are not supposed to slaughter tons of enemies by throwing a Captain America shield or something, there are weapons for that. I like shield on Chrono and really like it on Guardian, since I can protect allies close by from missiles. Works as intended.
  3. Thank you, sir. That was very informative and answered all I wanted to know.
  4. I made a celestial firebrand to farm WvW and it is effective, no question about that. My main problem is that it is exclusively melee, so in order to do anything meaningful, I have to risk my hide. All I want is to be able to stay in the back, spam a few abilities at range while my WvW boosters are up, and not be a deadweight. I looked at a few topics, a few metabattle builds, and I remain unsure if it is possible to be in a zerg as a ranged weapon user and still be able to contribute. The two main options seem to be power scourge and hammer revenant. Everything else is either melee or support. Can you advice what profession/spec to pick for this purpose?
  5. Seems that I was mistaken. After a bit of searching I found what I was looking for and it turned out to be an Acolyte of Dwayna outfit with bloodstone fen backpack. Such a disappointment. If someone deletes the topic it would be for the best.
  6. I remember looking at a collection of pictures, where people were showing off their characters. One of those characters had a distinct look that appeared to resemble Inquisitor Whitemane from WoW. https://wowwiki-archive.fandom.com/wiki/Sally_Whitemane?file=Sally_Whitemane5.jpg It was a cool idea which I recently wanted to recreate. Sadly, I cannot find the picture and even If I did, I will have no way of knowing what gear was used. It is clear that the White Mantle is a rip-off of the Scarlet Crusade, so their gear is the most obvious choice. The Bloodstone Savant's Staff from Lake Doric is the first step, but what about the rest? Here is the task - Can you link pieces of armor that will make a human female character appear as Whitemane? Individual pieces or entire sets, doesn't matter. Pictures will be nice, but not needed. Would also be fun to see someone attempt to make other Scarlet Crusade NPCs...
  7. I speak about jumping puzzles, especially particularly annoying ones like Chalice of Tears. Do you tip when you get ported to the end of a daily JP and if so, how much? Just when do you tip people in general and what is the acceptable amount?
  8. Eh, getting ascended back is not that easy. Sure, you can farm for one, but if you do so, better go for a stat you can use in content where ascended is required, not for open world. Anyway, thanks.
  9. So, I watched an already outdated video by this guy. And followed the build he linked. http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?PKzAEdflZwOYYMKWJOSPrvcA-zRgYRUTEogAtgauQ7JVGZmCRUBmcKER65Q9wBjWkf0C-e The linked build has a Captain's backpack. I'm not sure if the author put Captain by mistake instead of Cavalier, but I wonder where to get Captain? Stat selectable exotic backpacks, including the ones from the lunar new year simply don't have it?
  10. In a game where fashion is so important, a game where searching for cosmetics is major part of the end goals, buying an outfit is just a shame. Outfits are cool looking, but they show serious lack of imagination from those wearing them, for instead of trying to create a unique look, they use what someone else made with nothing to add from themselves.
  11. Would you give it a chance? Because as it stands now I see zero reason to play that thing unless they nerf weaver, which fills the same role, but far better. I also want the F5 to combine the different elemental orbs and once all four are attuned, to release them for a big burst of damage not unlike a Bladesworn. That would make it fun for me.
  12. I've been looking to get more serious in PvE and heard two classes are the most welcome in a party - guardian and revenant. I chose to gear up my revenant according to this build https://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Renegade_-_Boon_Support_Power_DPS_(Fractal), but then watched a video https://en-forum.guildwars2.com/forum/25-players-helping-players/?do=add making me confused how to gear up. Metabattle says to use 3 pieces of Berserker armor and 3 pieces + Diviner. Additionally the sigils on weapons are Impact and Force. Video says to go full Diviner on everything with sigils of Impact and Concentration. I already crafted 2 berserker pieces and going for a third, do I have to reforge? Maybe the metabattle build is just for fractals, but is not good for other content? What would be better in general (raid, fractals, dragon strikes)? Also, do I need full ascended for dragon strikes?
  13. So, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and everything is relative, especially when it comes to cosmetics. The luminescent armor has a unique glow and the basic model (carapace) is actually quite decent. However, I hear that dyeing this thing changes next to nothing, so you will always remain blue - more or less. Question for those that actually got the set, was it worth it to you? Did you keep it for long after you realized you will be a blueberry forever?
  14. You know, I can actually appreciate such a detailed post even if I disagree with it. As I said in my original post, I am not that much into lore, especially one which I do not particularly like. The reasons why they made Flame legion and Svanir the way they are could be attributed to maaany things, but imho, the simplest answer is usually the correct one. Fun fact is that in real war, no tribe would ever risk their females or they might never be able to procreate, so writers never had to explain this at all. But this is a game, a fantasy game on top of that and nobody really has to follow that rule, right? Well, the similarities between FL and Svanir lead me to the conclusion that someone had a serious lack of imagination, so they filled that whole with the things they considered to be bad in their own world view. Yup, simple is usually correct. Braham is indeed very inconsistent. He is however, consistently bad at everything he does and he constantly have to apologize - I am sorry I was so angry, I am sorry I was so envious, I am sorry I got drunk and lost my bow, I am sorry I failed my guild mates, I am sorry I did not kill Jormag. Why he is such a constant failure all the time? And everyone agrees with him, btw, adding to his failure. Why? Such a bad character it is a shame. Of course it is a flaw of the OP projecting. Thackeray left battle at a crucial moment to save Her Majesty which, as thanks, spurned his advances after he risked his life, reputation and friends in order to save her. Now, after he outlived his usefulness, he is free to go do whatever he wants. Except maybe not, since she still has that charm or magic or whatever it is, to call on him if S hits the fan. On the contrary, Rytlock failed his legion by abandoning them. All the guards in the first episode of Icebrood agree. Bangar agrees, Ryland agrees, Crecia agrees and Rytlock is apologizing to her constantly as well. You know, I was wrong, he wasn't spared, he is Braham 2.0. + a bit of Logan. Meanwhile Crecia was with her legion, but the fact she never got close to Ryland is ignored. It is all entirely Rytlock's fault for what happened with Ryland and Crecia will never let him forget it. And since I am tired of quoting let's wrap this thing up. Eir did the same thing as Rytlock to Braham, but she is a revered hero, while Rytlock is a regretful, miserable, self-pitying outcast. No double standards? No? Not even a little? About Canach, I got nothing to say. Perhaps you are right why did not use him more, but for the purpose of the topic it is irrelevant. Characters of color, as I have mentioned in another post, like Kos and the Spearmarshal are immune to being bad or wrong for the most part. Trahearne I am pretty neutral towards, for me he was just a narrator, a placeholder. Compared to the male cast, the females suffering from PTSD, workaholism and questionable religious views is beyond laughable. I mean, really? Only thing I can agree on is Caithe. However, she was clearly written this way to make you question her motives, while someone like Braham is just petty and immature with little to redeem him. In the end, for someone who claims not to care much I wrote far more than I intended. I am out.
  15. Dumas is a master storyteller and his work is timeless. His "tropes" are not questioned because he is good at what he does. If you make a character/story/lore that follow certain other tropes, tropes which actually hurt any of the above, you must be questioned why. If you can't make appealing lore/story and characters you hurt your product and therefore - your sales. If you believe that portraying man poorly is does not matter just look at the recent Hollywood movies and see the downward spiral. Star Wars is one of the most well-known offenders. And now this agenda is infecting video games, slowly, but surely. If that isn't a problem if you like to spend time on games, then what is?
  16. I think I know what you mean. Wink-wink :)
  17. Buddy, I have received warnings and bans for things I could not consider possible to be offensive. I suspect this will be the case here, as well. Braham is just constantly doing something wrong. Like, all the time and he constantly has to apologize for not living up to expectations. Gorrik is just afraid of Taimi. Afraid that she will scold him and the right word is NAG him. Rytlock has been covered, nothing more to say without repeating. Canach is indeed pretty cool, for being flawed, but witty and relatable at the same time. Trahearne I believe is just...there. Like, physically there to narrate and then die, likely because players did not enjoy how he became leader when they did most of the work. Wasn't Kos from GW1? We're talking about GW2 here where he just appears once or twice as a fan service. Don't forget that is he a person of color too and they cannot be bad. Yeah "Crazy Scarlet." Crazy, but brilliant. Her biggest flaw was that she was too brilliant for the rest to see and in the end she was just a puppet of that big, bad Mordremoth. She was, in fact, a victim. Poor woman! Zafirah is another person of color with anger issues, but despite that she is a hero, a supporting character supporting a noble cause. What are you, a myso...Hehe, just kidding. Livia is also a hero working for the Shining Blade. How is she bad? And the minister Estelle is some random minor villain, a pawn of that bad, bad Caudecus, the fiend!
  18. I suppose this thread will be banned for reasons unknown to me due to the extremely harsh censorship, but what the hell. Been banned before here, even when I believe I keep a civil tone, so probably gonna happen again. Never give a small man a sip of power or he or she will get thirsty beyond belief... Been thinking about the writing in GW2. Was not gonna make a post until I unlocked the new episode a few hours ago and heard the words uttered in the title of this thread. There are some very interesting trends going on in the writing of this game. I don't really pay attention to the story, but since you have to play it to fully unlock a new episode it is unescapable. I am somewhat interested in writing myself, so I cannot help it but listen from time to time. Writing is indeed a very personal process because to make it good you have to add a piece of yourself. Of the things YOU consider important and the way YOU view the world as a whole. So, by examining certain trends you can analyze the opinion of a writer, his views and his agendas... Let's take a look at some factions in this game, starting with the main enemies of two playable races - Flame legion and Svanir. Flame legion are like misguided, fanatical worshipers who like to use magic, while the rest of their kin likes neither gods nor the use of magic. Svanir are like misguided, fanatical worshipers of a dragon, while the rest of their kin likes to worship proper spirits. Do you know what both of their groups have in common? They are not particularly fond of...females. It is as if someone decided that these guys were not evil enough, so they made them uh...misogynistic and that man, THAT WAS PURE EVIL! KILL THEM! That is just a small thing, to be honest. An obscure piece of lore which shouldn't bother anyone. But, if you take a look at the general story... Have you noticed the male characters in GW2? How they behave, how they are portrayed? Braham...I think, he should be called Bra(t)ham. How and why he is annoying can take several pages to explain. Mr. Thackeray can be described with a simple word, but it would be rude to say it, so let's try to give graphic explanation without being inappropriate. The marshal is something combining a synonym of the word "cat" + a type of weapon/tool called "whip". Combine cat+whip and you will know exactly what he is. Something similar, but to a lesser extend can be said about Gorrik, because "Don't tell Taimi". Rytlock is mostly sparred, but he is a furry, so it's hard to put him in the same basket as the rest. You must be aware that he is kind of a failure, though. He failed his legion, he released Balthi, he was never there for his son. If you take a deeper look at it, most of the recent messes were because of him. Canach is...ok? Probably the only guy that is ok, maybe that is why you don't see him much in the later episodes. How many of the female story characters have issues like these? How many are outright dislikable/annoying and constantly make bad decisions? Look, I am not angry, sad, disappointed and I don't even care that much. I really don't. But it is funny. And I really think the people making the story should try to be at least a bit more subtle. Peace. Waiting my ban for daring to question the narrative.
  19. OP confused thief with mesmer. Virtuoso is ranged and seems to fill the role elementalists are supposed to be best at.
  20. I don't think changing the weapon alone will do anything for this broken mess of an elite spec. Even if they tweak the numbers it will still suck on a fundamental gameplay level.
  21. I can respect GW2 business model. I really do and that is why I buy stuff on the store where other online games want me to pay FOR THE PRIVILEGE of just playing. Nope, sorry, not gonna pay for that. However, mount skins prices in GW 2 are not ok. It's not the price for the regular skins, though some are indeed, overpriced. It is the Skyscale skins that are problematic. I bought the Branded mount pack and was happy with my purchase. It looks very nice and FOUR skins with so much customization for 1600 gems seemed reasonable. However, 1200 gems for the option to pick a SINGLE skin for the Skyscale is NOT OK. Of course, there is the option to pay 400 gems to play casino, but that is very close to loot box level of greed. I am sorry Anet, but you can't ask THREE times the price of a single skin in regular skin pack for that thing.
  22. Is this thing ever going to be free again upon logging or that was it? If you were to buy an episode or two, which one would you get and is there a reason to even do so?
  23. Ok, you have to complete 10 events for each quartermaster to unlock him. Do you have to do this on a single day? Does it work like a heart resetting each day?
