  1. The new expansion is still in development. Things can change. Numbers can be crunched again and again. However, new mechanics are likely to stay. The core gameplay is outlined. Are you happy with the incoming elite specs? Do you think they are fun to play? Yes or no, explain why. Personally, I think warrior and revenant are pretty interesting, but the rest of them not so much.
  2. In terms of overall concept, Catalyst does not appeal to me. Hammer on the squishiest light armor profession in this game simply does not fit. Nobody asked for this. In terms of gameplay, I see nothing unique or fun in the way Catalyst plays. Especially compared to rev or warrior elite specs, this one feels quickly put together and VERY uninspired. In terms of what new things Catalyst brings to the table...What are they exactly? The F5? If you want to melee you have Weaver, what role Catalyst fills that is not yet seen on ele? In terms of performance and how effective it is...Yeah. So why does this elite spec even exist, except to sell an expansion?
  3. They design the game in a certain way because...reasons. You claim to know what these reasons are by seeing Anet designs. The truth is that you don't know why they design the class that way, you presume to know it. At the same time you imply others are making presumptions what the class should be. What gives?
  4. From GW2 wiki. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Elementalist Elementalists are multifaceted spellcasters who channel elemental forces, making fire, air, earth, and water do their bidding. What they lack in physical toughness, they make up for in versatility and the ability to inflict massive damage. So what is an elementalist? A spellcaster that lacks in physical toughness and does massive damage. Here is definition of spellcaster: Spellcaster, a person who casts a spell (incantation) Spellcaster, a magician, that is, a practitioner of magic as portrayed in works of fiction. Spellcaster, in gaming, a witch or mage with the ability to cast spells. Source: https://www.google.com/search?q=spellcaster+meaning&oq=spellcaster+meaning&aqs=chrome..69i57.9252j0j1&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 Sounds like a mage to me. Not melee. Not someone who goes balls deep due to his frailty. Your argument is moot. Nothing more to be said.
  5. It is very a reasonable addition to include a new spec that plays very differently... However, it is not reasonable to add THIRD melee spec to a profession based on a ranged caster archetype while having NO GOOD RANGED option for it.
  6. I am the type of person who likes to have a bit everything, so I made one character of each profession and of every race. However, I cannot help but occasionally regret my choices. It is not only the way certain characters look, but also how the new elite specs totally change how they play. For example, they just announced the bladesworn elite for warriors. If you are a charr or human that is fine. But...I have a norn warrior that I imagined like a hulking barbarian, similarly to the one in Diablo. For a half-naked brute, it just looks silly to hold a tiny pistol in your off-hand. It just doesn't work thematically. I believe I finally understand the human female meta...its just that they fit almost everything and look good in everything, but this isn't the case for most other races. Charr elementalist? Norn mesmer? Asura ranger? You can make them, but it doesn't quite fit. Seems like this game was designed with humans in mind as the centerpiece, the groundstone around which everything revolves. I might have deleted my old characters to reroll a human, but some of them have maxed crafting skills and I prefer not to do this all over again. Is there an option to transfer crafting skill to an alt in this game?
  7. I am currently doing a few of the old dungeons to unlock certain skins. This includes Arah, because the Lich set is pretty awesome for a necro. Problem? Problem is that I run with people who want to do things as fast as humanly possible regardless of repeated dying. Clear mobs? No, it takes too long. Just run and die and run and die until next waypoint. It's a mess and seems that I am not the only one clueless on what is happening around or how. Really hate this. I see a few people using thieves and mesmers to stealth, but I cant find much on YouTube on what skills to use or how to build a character in order to make this work. Any suggestions? Is thief or mesmer better? How do mesmers manage to move so fast in order to open a portal, where I struggle to catch up even with swiftness buff? Just...no clue how to do this properly and can't keep up.
  8. All of my characters have a theme, a color scheme of a sort based on the color of their abilities. For example, mesmer will be purple and gold, ranger will be green and brown, guardian blue and white, necro green and black and etc. So I made a Charr revenant, because I wanted the character to be somewhat lore-friendly (Rytlock). With revenant the ability colors seems to be black, red and maybe white? Problem is, that when you mix these colors you just get a poor man's Rytlock... How do you make a Charr that screams revenant when you see it at a glance, without making a copy of an already existing hero? Any suggestions? Any pics to show a revenant that actually looks like one? ( I see too many characters around which kinda do not fit the archetype they are supposed to portray based on the cosmetics - snow white thiefs, red guardians and etc.)
  9. Ok, so the only content where a hybrid playstyle is accepted is WvW. Basically, you are liability if you do anything, but a narrow role like just dps or just support, I get it. The Grieving build seems ok to me, because it mixes a bit of both power and condi damage, but it's melee. At least the build linked uses sword. Will it work well with scepter or staff instead?
  10. Elementalists seem like a very fun class, but some things bother me: 1)It is supposedly a spellcaster that is mostly melee...Range stuff is kinda bad/outdated? 2)A lot of button mashing to do the same thing as other classes and often do it worse. 3)Despite the interesting concept and constant form switching, you are bad at the things you are not geared for. For example, you have the ability to do condition damage, but unless you gear for it, it sucks. You can heal, but unless you gear for it, it is not worth switching to water. Is there a way to play elementalist as hybrid that can do a bit of everything? Maybe with celestial gear? Or marshal? Is there a build/gear setup which will allow you to make good use of all your skills? And is such a build viable in say, fractals? Is there a viable way to play as ranged? I want to be a mage, not some melee ninja flipping around and dying when someone looks at me badly.
  11. Lack of masteries? I admit I am not very familiar with what ALL the masteries in the saga do, but one example would be to unlock chests in the open world. Raven's...something. Being unable to loot a free chest in the open world on any of my characters feels like a disadvantage. I see other masteries linked to mounts mentioned here and I assume there are other, maybe more obscure, that I will miss for not doing the story. And anyone saying I complain about difficulty is clearly unable to read. Also why I call this grind, people ask? Well, you do one mob killing mission...Fine. Then they send you on another and then another and then another. If the mindless slaughter of waves of mobs over again passes for a story in this game, then the bar is very low. I quit WoW years ago, but at least there the PvE content had more than that. Heard that maybe BFA changed this, but never stuck around to find out.
  12. It's not difficulty that makes this annoying to me and I agree the game is easy. Problem is that there is certain kind of content I find quite poorly designed and If I try to skip it, I put all of the characters on my account at a notable disadvantage.
  13. I have never been particularly fond of the story in GW2. Let's face it, the writing and the characters aren't appealing to anyone over 10. Sorry, but that is the truth and every time a new living world map is released, I feel forced to endure the story content in order to play the new map. However, this isn't much of an issue when you can simply start the story, listen to a few conversations, fight a bit and hopefully leave with the new area unlocked. No more. As a returning player due to the newly announced expansion, I tried the last episode of Icebrood saga(only one I have) and it was a horrible TORTURE. Just finished the Gendarran defence and have a hard time pushing myself through this any further. Almost every mission is some kind of mind boggling grindfest where you have to kill a boss with HUGEEE health pool while surviving ENDLESS mob waves...Who thought this was fun? Why am I whining? Who put a gun to my head to make me play it if I dislike this so much? Well, tons of mastery points are locked behind this horror and you can't get points unless you survive the kitten inducing process. What is worse, I can't just enter, get the point and leave, I have to stay and kill in order to go further into the map to reach the mastery point without getting kicked from the instance. My point is simple. If someone likes to grind Diablo style over and over again - more power to them. Can the ability to get important bonuses like mastery points, not be locked behind the...story in the next seasons? Pretty please?
  14. Both raids and fractals? I have a guardian that is likely be dedicated to WvW, so I am looking for alternatives. How about a Scourge? I hear they are not that great of a dps, but their shields allow them to "carry " in PvE like few others can. Are they sought after?
  15. I am reforging my gear according to this guy's recommendation I have a few questions, though: 1)Are you gonna be accepted for playing Celestial in PvE, especially raids? Will you get ostracized or kicked for not being pure support or pure damage or something like that? 2)If Firebrand is out of the picture for being Celestial, which professions will be most in demand in fractals/raids in its place? 3)In this video, the author uses celestial weapons and shield, but also axe (6:29)which seems to be...Plaguedoctors? Why? Why is it not celestial like the rest? I reforged a Minstrel axe to Plaguedoctor and I am not sure if it was the right move... 4)Is the video even reflecting the current state of the game? It was made, like, only 2 months ago, but maybe Celestial was nerfed or Firebrand changed in some way?
  16. I use this guy's recommendations and ALL of his builds are amazing, including the one he proposed for mesmer. Problem is...it is still a mesmer. Other than that, I was just curious if condition builds are better for open world, since the author is proposing a build that is of kind of jack of all trades, not one that is necessarily OP at everything.
  17. I am here trying to get into the mesmer class and figuring out how to make the most of it. Is it more effective as power or condition? What gear would be good for condition mesmer in open world? Viper? Trailblazer? Rabid? A mix of the above? Is the staff good as a condition based build? Any build suggestions? The concept of the mesmer is unique, but its mechanics feel like they leave something to be desired. I tried using this class with berserker gear and it looks very underwhelming, particularly in open world. It takes way too much time to spawn clones, the moment you kill a mob the clones disappear, there is serious lack of AoE outside of F1, and the damage is sooooo low... For example, going on a Dragonhunter I equip a greatsword, put on a trap, press the greatsword 4+2 and stuff dies. I go Necro, activate shroud and one press of 4 usually leads to insta death of everything around me. Even a squishy Elementalist may struggle to survive, but still provides decent AOE. Mesmer? No. No issues surviving, it just takes way too much time to setup a kill where other classes have no such issues. Maybe I am playing it wrong? Maybe mesmer is supposed to be played based on condition damage to slowly drain the enemy instead of bursting it down?
  18. I may have sounded way too negative overall, but I believe GW 2 has a lot of offer to people like me, I just have to put effort at some point to learn a class. Maybe that time is now. Good luck to you too.
  19. I got all professions to 80 with max crafting skills, farmed some ascended gear/trinkets, but never really liked fractals with that agony resistance stacking, never liked raiding because who wants a part time job when you are supposed to have fun, and never did much pvp because I am hopeless regardless of class. Running after the tag in wvw without an ounce of understanding what to do also seemed an alien concept. The only way for me to learn ANYTHING in GW2 was to watch AT MINIMUM a 20 minutes long video and spend hundreds/thousands of gold on gear/consumables/runes to just ATTEMPT any of the end game content. Not really the fault of the game, but the fact you are never taught how to play your class (while levelling) before trying said content is a huge design flaw. So the only thing I actually did was roam the world and farm the occasional cosmetic/ascended gear and stuff. Not really doing pve, pvp or wvw...If that makes any sense.
  20. I stopped playing this game roughly 2 or 3 years ago ,acknowledging the fact that I expected it to be something it never could be. The news for the upcoming expansion came, so I decided to come check the game again. I discovered that I am missing the last episode from Season 4 ( "War Unending", I think?) and from the "Icebrood Saga" I got only the last episode unlocked. My question is if any of the episodes I don't have are worth purchasing for any particular reason. I honestly don't care at all about the story in this game, but cool stuff like the beetle mount are attractive to me, so gadgets/unique cosmetics would be nice to unlock. I also never really got into GW 2, neither PvP nor PvE, so I might look into those. I am curious if someone can point out to me which professions are "good" and if they can link some videos in order for me to catch up with the "meta." Are Guardians still the best support class? Do Elementalists still suck in most aspects of the game? That kind of thing. Thanks.
  21. Alright, there were a few fair points here. Mostly about the fact that if I don't get deeper into certain modes/mechanics it is a bit hypocritical to complain about lack of depth. I might give WvW another try. To those telling me to go back to WoW, I might have, if they had BC server. Regardless, those comments were pointless and did nothing to clear things up.
  22. A WALL OF TEXT INCOMING! I purchased this game with its two expansions around January last year. The reason why i did it was obvious at first - it was non-subscription based MMO with seemingly decent combat system and a lot of features which actually promoted fun, instead of mindless grinding like most, if not all other MMOs out there. However, since the summer I've been playing just the bare minimum to get a daily done and then I immediately log off. The more I played this game, the more I realized how many serious flaws it has. I also cannot help, but compare it to WoW. To the true WoW, not the abomination it has become. I could go play the vanilla servers when they release, but sadly, as good as the game was in its original state, the classes just aren't balanced and it lacks the polish of Burning Crusade where all specs were good for something to a degree. So, not gonna happen. Let's focus on GW 2 though. -The combat. Very important, because this is what you do most of the time. When I saw that you can dodge I was very happy. It reminded me of Dark Souls series which are very dear to my heart. Sadly, instead of facing mobs with individual strengths and weaknesses which can seriously mess me up if I do something wrong, I am bombarded by weak enemies with some unique gimmick/ability here and there, Diablo style. Weren't the creators of Diablo also involved in making GW2? Because it feels like Diablo in 3rd person, really. But to the point - These weak mobs are boring to fight. Even if I die, the second wind mechanic ensures I will most of the time survive. I have all nine classes in this game at 80 with maxed professions. They all play the same. You just mash 2 or 3 buttons that do some damage and you win. Some of the core specs like Mesmer and Engineer need more attention due to low dps, but they are in the minority. On some classes i am not sure what some of the buttons do, honestly. I never needed to learn. I never felt challenged. Granted, the mobs in HoT are tough, but they either two shot you or you outdps them. That's it. Then you get second wind if lucky and repeat. Instead of learning patterns and using specific tactics to beat certain enemies, this is what the combat is in this game. The biggest difference for me is if a mob can reflect missiles so I don't range him. Boring. In comparison, in vanilla WoW, mobs could also simply do a lot of damage, but every class was truly unique. I was constantly in danger of running out man/rage/energy. I had to make sure I had enough to interrupt someone at the right moment or abuse line of sight if it was a strong caster. With frost mage I could kite for days and pull crazy shenanigans while totally dominating melee enemies. If I was a healer, I could drop HoT over time or shield on me preemptively or use short casting heal during combat to prevent myself from being constantly pushed back during a longer cast. Basically, while it wasn't incredibly deep, the combat was intuitive, you naturally learned what does what during the course of the game. In modern WoW after Cata you can just spam abilities with impunity and that is why I left during that time. The combat in GW2 is unintuitive. I am also bothered that you don't have to even target an ally to heal him. As someone who liked supporting when in group, I could target someone and literally save their life by doing the right thing at the right time. I also had to manage mana. It felt rewarding. Not the case in this game. Every class can do everything. Indeed, some are simply better at this than others, especially when it comes to groups, but the lack of Holy Trinity makes every class much more generic regardless if it is tanking, healing or dps. That is, if we can even say these roles exist here. -The world. The creators of this game realized that making generic quests which people simply grind out is pointless. So, they replaced generic quests...with generic hearts. But you know what? In WoW there were some great quests. Quests that could take you exploring half a continent to complete them. Quests which involved interesting characters and subplots which you can slowly reveal. Many were tied to dungeons which also made exploring the dungeon more fun, because you knew why you went there beside gear. If you go to Darkshore and you see The Master's Glade you start wondering. Hey, what is that thing over there? Who is the Twilight's Hammer? Who put that sword in the thing's head? I even looked on the internet for those things and it made the world feel alive. Why is Duskwood dark? What happened to Sven and his family? Is there connection between the Embalmer and Morben Fell? Who made the Worgen? Can the Horde trust the Forsaken? Is there hope for the Scarlet Crusade? How is Balnazzar alive? Most of those questions have already been answered, but you get the drift. In GW2 we have a few generic land massesAscalon - northern land in eternal autumn. Unique enemies -Branded and rebel humans.Shiverpeak - frozen wasteland. Unique enemies - Svanir and mole men.Kryta - pastoral green area - Unique enemies - centaurs and bandits.Asura/sylvari - jungle area - Unique enemies - Nightmare Court and Inquest.Orr- another wasteland with undead.HoT was more jungle and Mordrem.PoF added desert and egyptian undead+Forged and more Branded for flavor's sake. Every enemy is just bad for the sake of being bad. To be honest, some of them like Nightmare Court have somewhat deeper motivation, but hardly enough to make it very involving. The world is shallow and boring. I never felt emotionally attached. There is no politics, no backstabbing, no intrigue, no hidden motivation, nothing. The personal story is somewhat interesting until you get to the guilds. Then its a straight downfall. And after you realize there are no choices in the personal story, you just pray it is over sooner so you can get to the Battle of Claw Island for that sweet key. Every time they release a new LW episode I am like....Pff, to get that cool mount, gear, perk or whatever, I have to play through the story. /Facepalm. PvP. I admit I tried that in unranked a few times and lost pretty badly. Nobody to blame, but me because i was bad and deserved it. However, after every match the game tried to place me somewhere? Why would you give me rank or measure me in any way when I play unranked? From what I heard and watched in videos PvP is an afterthought. I've been told matchmaking is bad and nobody cares too much about balancing it anyway. Why bother getting good then? WvW. Went there for the spoon. Without the mount I felt it was very sluggish, slow to get anywhere. Saw a tag, ran to it and had a bit of a zerg fight. There were so many explosions, so many flashing lights I had trouble understanding what is going on. It is not only hard to see, but even starts to hurt the eyes. When I stray away from the zerg someone kills me. Shortly before starting to log only for the daily, I made my guardian a Firebrand with a WvW support build I saw in MetaBattle. Gave it exotic minstrel gear, ascended minstrel weapons and accessories and monk runes. When it was fully geared I couldn't bring myself to play it in WvW. The process of gearing was more of a goal than playing it, it seems. In addition, support Firebrand with its pages plays very differently from the core guard. While this is good, the unintuitive combat of this game is a huge turn-off. I tried watching a video on how to play FB in WvW and you know what i learned? Make sure your team has stability and retaliation. Couldn't even find a proper guide, honestly. When I went to battlegrounds in WoW I performed well. The idea behind each and every one is simple enough. I understood the tactic and never needed to use discord unless in a premade. Seems that if you want a proper multiplayer experience in GW2, you need to use voice chat. I don't even have a way to learn how to play FB properly in WvW and honestly getting blamed for not doing something by some tryhards doesn't seem the most fun way to approach this. Fractals. I went there with my guardian because it was my first character and did a few of them. Mostly to finish my mastery points. Fractals are well designed, but the problem remains. Combat is boring. I put GS 4 on the ground, press GS 2 and spin to win. GS 3 to close the gap. Use trap (it's DH) on cd for extra burst. I know there is rotation and all, but at low lvl fractals doesn't matter anyway.Again - in 5 man dungeons in WoW I had to manage resources which isn't the case here. If I was a mage I had to polymorph and my CC was vital for the success of the group. And if people were nice I gave them food or water. A well placed shield on my priest could save lives. On my druid I was constantly trying to get aggro from multiple mobs and taunt if something went bad. Once more - it felt rewarding, it felt engaging. Not in GW2. More dps, less dps, whatever. Stuff dies. Raids.I've raided in BC and found they were just a part-time job, especially as a dps because the rotation is pretty much what you do in GW 2 now. Spam shadowbolts/fireballs, whatever your main nuke is and occasionally refresh a debuff. So, don't care about them. Currently I am logging in just for dailies. The thing I enjoyed the most at first it seems, was to get the fashion I wanted. Skins. So far, I think , I've gotten most of what I desired. rest is locked behind WvW/Fractals or raids. Don't see much reason to play for vanity's sake if I don't like what the game offers. I feel like I've wasted my money? Convince me to give some aspect of the game a second try?

  24. Hi, I've been redirected to this thread in search of fashion solution and will be interested to see if something can be done about my case. I have asura engineer and want to make him look "high-tech" and in way at least remotely resembling the dynamic exo-suit outfit. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:Dynamics_Exo-Suit_Outfit.jpg I know it is impossible to make something that looks exactly like this, I just want a look that follows the spirit with holographic projections here and there, sparkling gadgets, shiny stuff with unknown purpose which just look cool. Basically, a Christmas tree of high-end asura technology. Outside of the asura cultural armor or the gem store there doesn't seem to be much in the way of such gear. Any suggestions are welcome.
