  1. It's a good idea in the drawing room if you're not actually playing the game. Yeah, silence is golden for them. They shut down the poll and are closing threads on similar but different topics. Apparently they want to corral everyone with disdain for the design into one pen so the specifics get lost in the torrent of replies.
  2. I strongly disagree. Please don't encourage Anet to pursue this course of game design in the future by promoting it. If it keeps up it's just a matter of time before you login to play through the same skinner box time gate schedule you play every day in hopes of getting access to new content they just released but some months down the road.
  3. What you "feel" is the reason for people disliking the time gate is not based on what people are actually saying. Many people have already explained how their reasoning has nothing to do with instant gratification but how pointless time gating is an attempt at anet to control how they spend their time. It's more similar to a skinner box mobile game than an MMO. You have to 'suck it up' when you go to work, pay a bill or do yard work. If you're having to 'suck it up' to play a video game then the game isn't doing what it's suppose to, providing you fun and entertainment. Well these are my opinions time gating has existed since ascended armor in Guild Wars 2. So yes suck it up.I have explained in my previous posts the difference between time gating materials for economic control and time gating items with no economic value. You're calling people kids but you're not taking the time to think this through like an adult. I'm less worried about this instance of time gating and more so worried about the precedence it sets for future new content. You telling people to suck it up is just lazy. 'Suck it up' is just a synonym for "This is bad, but do it anyways because I don't feel like coming up with a better solution".

  5. I hope they will see how this was received and not time gate the next item/mount for a month.
  6. No where because it's not constructive. The less options the more clear the results will be.
  7. well theyre gonna get a lot less gameplay by forcing people to wait for something. some people are like "im just gonna do the daily for this then go play something else" when they COULD just have the skyscale already and start working on gaining its masteries and learning how to use it. there are already so many daily things in game. dont make major new content time gated on top of the new content already having time gated events Perhaps I don't understand the problem. What advantage is gained through delay . . ?I'm just going to quote myself from another thread: I hate hard time gates, they are just an arbitrary and lazy way for the developers to stretch their content further. It does not benefit the player in any way and they are not fun. It's a brash way to force the player participate in content they may not want at that time for the sake of the reward. For those who say "it makes people take their time and enjoy the content more instead of rushing through it." No, it doesn't. It makes me hate the content more because I have to play it that day for the sake of not missing out on "wasted time" instead of just, say, doing a collection for a bit when I feel like it. So what if a subset of people want to rush to get it. They should be able to enjoy the game how they want. Maybe they have their own real life time restrictions and doing it over a day/weekend it is their mostpractical use of time to acquire it. Anet shouldn't be telling people how to best use their time. For all those who say you should have to 'work' for it (I should specify that I consider work doing something you don't enjoy). It's a game, entertainment, something you do for enjoyment. I shouldn't have to work for anything. Specifically it's an RPG, I should progress naturally as a result of playing. How ticked off would you be if you were playing Skyrim and go to talk to the greybeards but...wait, you have to wait 23h-59m to do that action. Awesome, through the use of time gates Bethesda has doubled the play time of Skyrim! But did they, really? :I There are sooo many better ways to do this than a hard time gate. They could use a soft time gates like: Collections that require semi-rare RNG drops from map event bossesLarger collectionsA crafted item (Saddle?) that you have to gather map specific items for. (so basically a collection + crafting). Now, hard time gates on items make sense in regards to the in game economy but as far as I'm aware the skyscale has no economic value. It's just for prestige like the griffon. Before you someone says it, yes, something can still have prestige and not have to have a hard time gated.
  8. I can't agree more. The map design and art really is stunning.
  9. Maybe you should read the email that anet sent out saying that you should come play and get your "SKYSCALE TODAY"its a problem because people dont like bing lied too and bamboozled LOL ... yeah OMG ... they are FOOLING people into playing a game they have been playing for years to come experience new content. tragic. i guess you missed the whole part where you cant do the following statement lol No, i didn't miss it ... I'm just realistic because I play GW2 for more than one day ... therefore it's not a big deal that it takes more than a day to get it. I'm not offended by some minor oversight because I play the game anyways and eventually I will get the mount /shrug That's great for you that apparently has nothing to do all day but play GW2, some of us have jobs and families and RL so we are unable to sit and play for hours on end, which means I MIGHT be able to get it by Christmas but I'm not holding my breath. I have a job and family, etc ... that's why time gating doesn't bother me ... because I know I will be playing over a series of days. Time gating doesn't bother people like us. So do I and I completely disagree with you. Please do not try to speak for everyone with your opinion. Your experience does not equate to my experience. It's not an opinion. Time gating content benefits players with less time to play because it forces the whole population to spread out their time on the content resulting in everyone playing more like the people with less time to play. That means people with less time to play will be ensured a more populated map. It is an opinion. What if a person works 6 days a week without access to play and only gets to play for a few hours on the 7th day? You just exponentially hurt those people who have less time to play. It tires to force players to populate a map, it doesn't ensure they will though. If no one enjoys the map content most people wont play it. The enjoyment of the content should attract players, not a time gate. What about it? When they can play, they can go do the time gated content ... what's the problem? It's not like the map will be abandoned in 1 week. That's a ridiculous appeal to an exceptionally absurd scenario. Sure if no one enjoys it, no one will play it ... except we have experience that says people still play old maps so ... something missing from your analysis there. Time gate isn't there to attract the players. It's there to slow the play to a pace of that content. The problem is it will take them exponentially longer to acquire. I was addressing the fallacy in you saying it was fact (you said it wasn't opinion, and the opposite of that is a fact) that it will benefit people with less time. It is not, you were wrong. It's kind of insulting to the hundred of thousands of people who work long hours/weeks to say it's an "exceptionally absurd scenario". It's pretty common around where I am. Just because people are playing a map doesn't mean they enjoy it. It could just be tolerable enough and have a good enough reward to warrant doing it.That's perfectly okay, in small amounts. In an MMO environment the player won't be having the time of their life 100% of the time. GW2 relies on this way too much though so I'm going to call them out for it because if they keep it up it's going to become more akin to a mobile skinner box game than the GW2 experience we all enjoy.

  12. It's not all that good either. The unblockable is ok but being required to be within 600 range greatly increases the risk you have to take to land it. 600 units of range is far more valuable than unblockable.
  13. Keep up the good work! Just started learning necro myself and was kind of unsure about it. This gave me some hope.
  14. What weapon set would you say has the most burst then?
  15. I might just be a bad day. I was doing pretty well the other day in wvw on S/D but yesterday I was just getting stomped by longbow rangers and dragonhunters. I only have like 100 hours on thief so I'm definitely still learning
  16. Context: WvW and sPvP running pretty standard core S/D with short bow but I run basi venom, I love that unblockable stun. "Don't fight them 1v1" is probably what I'll get as an answer but I'll ask anyway and see if anyone has some strats that work for them. Dragonhunter: The traps, the chain, the bow, all the aegis. It's a nightmare to fight. If I stay at a distance I get out ranged, if I fight close I get rocked by traps. If I pop the traps and try to kite I get chained (the good ones wait until the end of my dodge/evade frame to hit me). If they miss the chain they just peg me with their bow. I'm not certain how to fight them or if I even can.Reaper: If they have an axe they will out damage my shortbow. Meleeing them is certain death with reaper shroud. If they are smart and camp a no port spot it's even harder to fight them because I can't give them the ol' in-n-out on sword 2 to bait skills. Holosmith(and to a lesser extent, scrapper): Oh boy, the amount of sustain these guys generate is insane. I had someone in sPvP arena the other day stand there and let me land burst on them for free to test it out. Didn't even get them to half health and that was without them dodging, blocking, or doing anything to mitigate the damage. Not to mention they have insane CC and damage to boot. Is this just a loss if I engage a fight with one?Side NoteThis is just me QQing a little bit. As much as I absolutely love playing thief the more I start to play it the more I lose faith in it. It seems like the only fights I can win are +1's or against someone who has no idea what they are doing. Even some of the +1's are hopeless if your team mate can't carry their own weight in the fight. Even my mobility is pretty questionable. In WvW I've had things like revenant and ranger catch up to me no problem and lol at my "superior mobility". I should probably just stop whining and play something else, eh?
  17. I love it! This reminds me of a warrior build I made completely centered around as much cc and sustain as possible. Wouldn't kill a damn thing but the hell if they get to move.
  18. The builds don't have to be good. They don't even have to be effective. They just have to be either fun to play or highly annoying. Give a brief summary too so we know how/where its suppose to be used. I'll start:Build: Condi mob theifUsage: WvW build to annoy people. Using a trap grants stealth and gaining stealth blinds enemies. Spawn theifsApply conditions Abuse the kitten out of the stupid amount of blinds.Stealth and wait for CD's/iniRepeatUse steal to refresh Thieves Guild/Ambush fasterBlinds: Shadow ShotBlack PowderBlinding PowderCloak and DaggerHide in ShadowsTripwireAmbush
  19. I run core S/D with great success. D/P DD is harder now but I'm still able to pull of some cheeky plays with have a ton of unblockable uptime between my steal and basi venom. D/D just isn't a great combo for WvW/PvP for any build really. Your giving up blinds, dazes, or shadowstep for an evade (which you get on S/D anyways) and some damage. Just isn't really worth using even as cool as it is.
  20. Getting "+1" and "1 shot" are two separate things but I assume you mean the latter. When people get one shot it usually happens for one or multiple reasons. They were not paying attentionThey miss timed their dodge/block/evadeThey thought they had a skill but it was actually on CDThey don't understand how the other profession's burst works. They think since they are tanky they are immune to damage. Their build isn't good. If thief didn't have tools such as stealth, teleports, and evades it would be worthless. It can be punished the same as any other profession when it makes a mistake. Even more so usually since it can be harder to recover from mistakes on thief than a lot of other professions. If you want to beat a thief just lock them down at the end of an evade frame and time your active defenses well (aegis, evades, blocks). If you want an example of something that can shut down a thief spend a while playing dragon hunter or any guardian build really. There is a cooldown but its essentially the same response that I gave you about thief. If they can't produce clones they have no damage/defense so it's essential for them to produce them reliably. Without clones they would just be some dude running around in robes with a low health pool. Cleave their clones, avoid their major burst They have mediocre defense and mediocre offense if they trait for both. If they build in the favor of one or the other they will be severely lacking in the other. It's easy to be mediocre at warrior but it's actually pretty difficult to be really good at them. They can be fairly easily kited, well timed unblockable attacks can completely shut them down, having good poison uptime really hampers their passive healing and best of all just avoid their burst skills. Not to mention their high damage skills have very obvious tells so you should be able to avoid them. The game very specifically advertises itself as a game without class roles. They do not intended for there to be a holy trinity. Professions are suppose to bring variety and different play styles and not be required to fill roles. Other than a few modes and considering how hard it is break away from the norm they do fairly well at this. There are defiantly problems that need to be addressed but I think you're blowing them way out of proportion. The game is far from unplayable or it wouldn't have as large a player base as it does. Since it is playable that means they are doing more stuff right than wrong. I don't think it's their goal any more to make it a competitive game. Complaining about why it's not competitive would be like complaining that God of War has bad competitive design. They keep in the game for people who enjoy it but it's no longer the goal of the game. Explain to them it's actually a really good game and give them examples of why you enjoy playing it. The only thing I hope is that the game continues to improve. It's not in a bad state at all. They just need to make their vision more clear to the player. What anet really sucks at is transparency.
  21. The Long Night: Night lasts twice as long and day half as long. Every player death spawns a veteran risen at night.I need healing!: No out of combat health regen. You have no power here: Power damage is reduced by 25%. Conditions last 25% longer.Favorable conditions: All conditions are converted to boons every 3 second.Party Hard: Each player in your group takes increased damage of 1% for every player in the group.Run for it!: Everyone has permeant superspeed. (The buff has the same effects as superspeed but it called something different so it doesn't trigger superspeed traits)No dead state: Players regenerate health slowly when dead and will eventually resurrect. No supply, no problem: All siege instant builds and cost 0 supply. Well then...: On player defeat spawn any random well in the game. Hearty Meals: All food effects are tripled. No where is safe: Determined and Righteous Indignation are completely removed. All structures take 50% more damage.Get me a bandaid: Gain 3 stacks of bleeding every 3 seconds when not in a structure. No fair: Any amount of fall damage instantly kills you.Roll check: Endurance regen is increased by 100%I could keep going, but that's enough for now. EDIT: And here are more What goes around comes around: Permanent retaliation. (Same as superspeed one, uses different name)You feelin' lucky, punk?: Random chance to turn into a moa, gain rampage, consume plasma, or refresh all cd's when using a heal skill.
  22. bard sounds more like a mesmer thing then thief True, it was just the quickest thing to pop into my head. I'm not really sure what theme would fit the idea best. Tactician? Saboteur? Not sure really.
  23. Thief "Bard" spec that excels at team support and 1v1. Thematically the best weapon for this would probably be focus but really I would be happy with any one-handed weapon to grow more on the thief's dual wield skills. It seems to me though they might be avoiding to have to expand the dual wield skills because that would require even more development time on top of the e-spec. If I had to pick a two handed I would say hammer fits the support role better but a hammer thief just sounds silly and a GS support thief equally as much.
