I played GW1 and GW2 and actually miss something...

Recommended Posts

I'm not a big writer so I just cut right through it without boring y'all with great stories a of my gaming life and nice grammar.

In GW1 the was a profession I loved to play, because it was possible to support players and do damage: The Ritualist!

Coming back to Cantha they were actually back as enemies and I hope that ANet will bring it back. Please let's spam spirits again.

And secondly, Companions! I go solo from time to time and I think they should come back as well. It's sometimes just easier to do some content and it was always fun to tinker around with them.

Without change, replacing players with bots in an mmorpg is still a bad idea.

True, it kills community interaction and makes people more selfish / introvert. Which is a terrible thing for an MMO.

companions were awesome, I'd love to see GW2 have them. Yes, I'm aware that lfg exists, but it was fun building a team and choosing how you built them.

What you would love playing is like a good CRPG then. Try like divinity or something.

Its sad to say that even with henchies and heroes Gw1 forced you to group and interact much more than Gw2 does. AI was never as good as human and there were a lot of limitations in their day. Coops, Elite Missions, Hard Mode, Challenges, PvP, Alliance Battles, Speed Clears, Farms... Even in events.

In Gw2 you play solo most of the time and with no "companion" and i belive there are ppl here in this community that 100% plays solo, and for being an MMO well... At least in gw1 u needed real ppl for cooperative missions (story), most of them.

PD: Even guilds were necessary for most of the ingame stuff, guilds in gw2 are a meme. Instead Gw2 is a solo online game, you just hop in and do stuff that are not even hard. Story you do it even alone. Guilds just serve to have another chat ingame that 90% of the ppl dont even pay attention to.

No? You could play the entirety of GW1 except for PvP, GvG and Urgoz/The Deep with just yourself, your heroes and/or henchmen. 7 hero teams can clear all content, even in HM. Even since Prophecies launched, the only mechanic that FORCED you to party with others was "Adventure with an Ally" quest, and opening the Northlands gate - you no longer need a person to do the latter now, and you can buy the res skill from a skill vendor. The game is 100% solo friendly, outside of the 12 man elite areas that still only let you take 7 heroes and no henchmen are available.

You can't compare "playing solo most of the time in gw2" to "co-op/hard stuff you want a party for in gw1" when in GW2 it sounds like you're probably just playing open world most of the time? Or just story?

Guilds were not necessary for in-game stuff in GW1. You could play the entire game without a guild, still max every title. A guild in GW1 for me only has the purpose of chatting and having the guild hall for a quick port to a bank (the exact same as GW2).

On the other hand, I literally could not play GW2 without other people. I like to do raids, strikes and dungeons. I could not do the first two of those without others, and solo'ing every dungeon would take far longer and is pretty boring, so let's just say I need others for that too.

Just because you have one experience of the games, doesn't mean that you're right (which... you aren't).

You are choosing to play GW2 without others, and you chose to play GW1 with others. Neither game forces you to party with others - they both have the options for content that you can solo, and that is the majority of both games.

Fake news. In guild wars 1 you couldnt do a team of 7 heroes, you can do a team of 7 heroes since a 2013 update after the game was set to maintenance mode so you DONT DEPEND that much on real players. When the game was supported and you could only add 3 heroes to a team of 8 PLAYERS, you really needed to interact with other ppl. Imaging doing a underwold with heroes, or a faction farm sc with heroes or many many things, since gw1 is a game that really encourage you to team with ppl and play good or you get kicked out of the instance and no reward, not like here.

Gw1 guilds were necesary to form stuff, there was no LFG, and most of the stuff was team based, so you needed to form, ask questions, setup and play together with ppl from your guild and friendlist (daily zaishen mission, another example), while again, i repeat, in gw2 you just hop in without thinking, finding players or setting ur team/strategy and do random stuff, or do story solo, or randomly join a lfg team without even saying a word until you finish swinging your sword. The same eh?

And i do play raids etc, but still this game (gw2) is so against player interaction that is shocking. The 1st time i see on my gamer history ppl asking in reddit/game "when is this game gonna get more social" after i guess, doing things like a braindead, with no setup/strat, and no group player iteraction needed at ALL. (and wait, dont add anything difficult because maybe ppl need to do a team and have a healer or smthing and that will explode their mind on a mmo)

Incorrect, the update that allowed a player to use 7 heroes was in March of 2011, before either GW2 or GW1 being put in maintenance mode.

https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Hero (See the Trivia note at the bottom of the page).

Person above already corrected you about the heroes so I won't bother.

1. Henchmen have existed since the game launched and it was 100% possible to only play with those. You chose to play with people instead.

2. I have done UW with just heroes. Speedclears are not exactly normal gameplay, but still - many are doable with just heroes. Even UW HM and DoAHM are doable with only heroes. And you can even do HA with henchmen - I've gotten r6 fame just from running solo.

3. Guilds were not necessary to form anything in GW1, there was the "LFP" system which showed parties forming in the area you were in, allowing you to set an lfg message and request to join/invite others.

4. You can use bold text and it doesn't make you any less wrong.

5. Maybe the way you choose to play gw2 is like that, definitely not true for everyone. If you are choosing to join random lfgs and not even say a word, maybe you're exactly the type of person you have a problem with? The same if you are only joining guilds to find people to do content with. Personally I find GW2 way more social because I choose to socialise with others, and ask people if they want to play together/do content. In fact, the only reason I still play GW2 over any other MMO (which I've usually quit after 4 or 5 months) is because of how easy it is to make friends and chat to others, and find groups for content. I found GW1 was quite similar too.

6. I make something like 15-20 LFGs a week for raids/strikes/fractals, nearly everyone that joins is good at communicating, most of the time there's a bit of casual banter too. Nobody's brain explodes because I put a healer role in the lfg.

Objectively a lot of content in both games can be solo'd. It is much easier to find groups for content in GW2 as the LFG is visible from anywhere for any content you want to do. More content can be solo'd in GW1 than in GW2, due to the fact there are no heroes or henchmen in GW2. It's also much easier to chat to people whilst being solo in GW2, due to the existence of map chat.
