yes, and that is intended, while at the same time the biggest weakness of mech. 

the only ranger-specc that really suffers from having its pet dead is untamed. For untamed specifically, there are exactly 2 traits in the untamed-traitline, that require your pet alive (Blinding Outburst and Ferocious Symbiosis), with only Blinding outburst actually being related to the pet itself. 

This is entirely different for mech. every single one of the 9 choosable traits, and all 3 minor traits requires your mech to be alive. If your mech is dead, you are basically playing a core-engineer, but without your toolbelt and with only 2 traitlines instead of 3. That´s the big downside of mechanist, and the reason why mech  is much more durable and doesnt get despawned when the engineer is downed.

well well...

I always thought loosing the ability to procc your "on pet swap" traits is hurting all the Rangerspecs....   today i learned. /s    

apparently just Untamed has those traits!!! you heard it here first! /s   🙄

 

Loosing the pet hurts every rangerspec besides Soulbeast, because they can literally just revive it at any time.

They either should fundamentaly nef mecha or, if they chose to keep it, drastically lower it's potential. 
Low or even no intensity + high(er) output (than most other classes) should not be. 
And inbefore the usual "don't nerf engineer then, buff the others" guys come out- no, that is NOT a solution, unless Arena.Net decides to turn GW2 into an afk mobile game.
