Stalima.5490
Because the basic auto attack damage on everything the engineer does keeps getting nerfed it is starting to force engineers into highly degenerate gameplay, high damage stealth attacks, giga regen builds, literally just holo etc. etc. The nerf to the basic attacks is pushing the engineer out of being able to provide sustained pressure and into either hard to avoid burst or overwhelming defensive gameplay with no real middle ground. Alcatraznc.3869
To be fair most recommended build had always been some kind of sneak one shot grenade for WvW or tanky kitting for SPvP.

One poorly designed thing doesn't negate another poorly designed thing. All this shows is that autos are so overtuned that they outclass other parts of the engi kit that are already over the top. At least the "degenerate" engi pvp builds actually require pushing a few buttons and some small modicum of skill. 1 1

In comparison to what? previous mechanist builds required more or less the same amount of skill, they just lost 2 toolbelts and thats it, they still had to actively use their 3 pet abilities and still had the same number of utilities. If you are calling say the function gyro or healing toolbelt a skill based ability then I'm sorry to disappoint you but they are not. because that is basically the only difference between a scrapper and mechanist other than the scrapper dealing more damage in pvp.
Thelgar.7214
What do you mean start? Until the mechanist and rifle boost, that's pretty much all it was with the exception of some broken support things in WvW for a while.

Unless you're a pistol/pistol Thief there's no such thing as degenerate gameplay. Edited December 4, 2022 by SleepyBat.9034
Luthan.5236
I guess we'll only see this when th next "real" season starts. Currently the fake PvP (2 vs. 2 death match - not real PvP) ... there might be people still playing in unranked and optimizing builds. But a lot might wait for 5 vs. 5 season to seriously play ranked again. Since 2 vs. 2 depends a lot more on the team than the 5 vs. 5 composition. I think in an environment with more players (at least the 5 vs. 5) ... you still can do interesting things. If you don't only play with a "I want to b eable to compete in 1 vs. x" in mind.
