The # of people 'afk' farming is atrocious.

Recommended Posts

Standing in the same spot for 10 hours a day putting down AOE's using Scripts, Autocast or mouse macro's is clearly not playing the game.

These people need to be heavily punished, either with increasingly longer bans for each offence, or just straight up permbanned from the game.

All they do is farm gold all day and inflate the market to the point where NOBODY can afford anything.

Arenanet, Please. Take action and remove this disgusting playstyle from the game permanently.

This thread will be closed as soon as a moderator notices it. You can follow the debate in any of the previous threads on this subject that have been created and closed. Basically, autocasting is not against the rules, so you cannot call for punishment of players using autocast while they maybe watch Netflix. All they have to do is respond to whispers from DMs, or move back if they get transported across the map, to prove they aren't totally AFK.

And as listed in GW2's own 'policy' statement.

https://help.guildwars2.com/hc/en-us/articles/360014185033-Policy-Unattended-Gameplay

As a general policy, ANY form of unattended gameplay is prohibited in Guild Wars 2This includes:

  • The use of auto-casting abilities to farm while not at your computer or not actively playing the game.
  • The use of a macro to automate character skills while not at your computer or not actively playing the game.
  • The use of a macro to farm repeatable events or activities for rewards while not at your computer or not actively playing the game.
  • The use of a third-party program to automate or create a “bot” that performs autonomous actions in the game.

Note that this does not mean that you cannot be away from your computer (AFK) while you are online. Idling in a city or even in the open world is not prohibited, though your character should not perform actions, participate in content, or otherwise engage with the world while you are away from your computer.

All you can do is report them. Apparently Anet thinks it's ok as long as they're not totally afk or using botting software and there's no way for players to work out who is doing that, or to do anything about it if they are.

Reports are not acted on automatically and you won't get in trouble if you report someone who isn't breaking the rules unless you're spamming reports or encouraging other people to mass-report them, so it's best to just report anyone you think might be breaking the rules and let Anet sort them out.

If they respond to Anet when they check if these players are afk, they do not break these rules. You cannot reply to a GM if you are afk. We as players cannot know if they are there or not. As others say: Report and move on

Probably they come from games where afk farming pays off, but here we have:

If I compare the prices from pre-HoT to now, there is only one thing that has become more expensive and that is gems, everything else dropped a lot, e.g. the mats to craft ascended armor (~25g per piece now) cost around 25% of what they were pre-HoT (around 100g per piece before HoT).

They  the increase of gem costs is quite natural, the game produces much more gold per hour (all these event rewards today, fractals, strikes, raids, ... vs just dungeons and (limited at that time, e.g. no CM, no dailies) fractals pre-HoT) now than it did pre HoT.
