The Weapons

What's with the newer weapons having more, or better, mechanics than their profession's elite specs?

It'd be nice if the older weapons got this sort of life given to them too. Granted, we all know it probably wouldn't happen.

(I'm really hyped about Spears, but it's kinda showing this amazing potential the devs have with the weapons and wish they'd backtrack and give this sorta spice to all of them).

More time to design and code weapon mechanics, while not having to restrict yourself to espec theme.

I'm not entirely sure about the possibility of getting this degree of a rework, but refreshing older weapons in terms of animations and purpose definition wouldn't be too far fetched.

So you spend the $25 what do you think...

Besides if they weren't any good you'd complain about that, like a load of people are doing.

Actually it's only $5 for the new weapons, story, raid, and map. It's $20 for housing.

Edit: On second thought, housing might be part of the $5 dollars along with the rest, including spears for 8 professions. Then $20 dollars for elementalist spear animations. We'll find out when housing details are dropped. 😉

Ele spear getting four times the budget of everything else combined seems like a bit of an exaggeration.

The autoattacks and slot 3 skills seem pretty basic (probably deliberately so in order to justify most of the weaver skills also being fairly basic visually), so you're probably looking at having 13 skills or so with significant graphics work. That's probably roughly the equivalent of mesmer, guardian, and revenant spears combined. The other professions are relatively plain compared to those three, albeit with some standout skills, so I'd guesstimate elementalist received about a third of the skill effects budget.

Tbh it’s prolly less then a third, when u consider things like rangers have 3 flip over skills, thief’s have 6 lots of flip skills a new stealth attack. the list kinda goes on.

Not to mention, melee animations have to be adjusted to each races animation set, while casting doesn’t.

They are talking about the effects work, not the animations.

The breakdown for animations likely could be very different. Thief has virtually no big effects other than 5. Necro has like 3-ish effects (2, 5, and maybe 4-flip).

I do disagree with their accounting, though. Engi has 4 very flashy effects on 2-5. And you are correct that Ranger has some effect work on at least the flip-over skills which have additional symbols and animals, so that is also 3 plus a net.

And I also don't think Ele has 13 big effects. I think its more like 9: all 4s, all 5s, and Air 2. All the other 2 skills seem like they could have been retooled from other effects pretty easily. We could maybe add a couple of the weaver skills, but I don't think many of them look very complicated.

You might be right. I was thinking of all 2s, all 4s, all 5s, and the Air/Earth weaver projectile block bubble - I didn't consider whether any of the skills were retooled effects.

And yeah, I wasn't thinking about the "how the character moves the spear around" animations. I suspect there aren't many of those that are unique to a single profession.

Is it me or is the thief auto-attack just the idle animation with a trail? 😅 I'm not complaining about that one, though, because it looks cool.

It's possible that the idle animation is the thief auto-attack without the trail - they made the attack animation first and then someone decided to repurpose it as an idle animation.
