Where Did Aurene Go? [shpoilersh]

So Arden's comment was still false. Gwen said the creatures in Melandru's Domain do not deserve pity, not the Gods, and furthermore we already know why they could not fight the Elder Dragons. And Rytlock really needs to learn to wind his neck in when it comes to the Gods after literally causing Path of Fire and ruining the one thing they actually did do to help.

Good to know, moving on.

Also, "we"? Gwen was only really involved in fighting Primordus via the Great Destroyer, wasn't she? At least it puts a bit more of a solid date on when exactly the Gods left.

Either way, like I said, it's just her opinion, and she's never been a particularly optimistic soul.

Ergo we're the reapers now like it or not. I imagine it'll be one of those things we'll deal with post-mortem.!! It does look a lot like Desmina is taking over the UW in the absence of Grenth and taking out the former reapers to that end makes sense. Just a bit of educated speculation on that bit though.

I'd also include the members of Destiny's Edge and probably Dragon's Watch at this point. Given that half of them or more were present for directly fighting an Elder Dragon's mind.

Granted.

Desmina tampered with the ritual, sacrificing the Reapers to strengthen it enough to prevent Dhuum from breaking free again (supposedly). The original ritual wasn't strong enough to hold dhuum since the events of GW1 when he first began to break free after gaining souls from the deal with Abaddon. The raiders stood in in place of the Reapers to finish the ritual that Desmina tampered with, that's all. The raiders have zero obligation, hint, or implication of replacing the Reapers for managing the Underworld. They merely stood in to finish the ritual and nothing more.

There is even dialogue after the battle where the PC asks Desmina what will happen now that the Reapers are dead:

Desmina: The Voice in the Void is silenced again.<Character name>: The reapers paid a heavy price.Desmina: They did as they were meant to do. As you did.<Character name>: And what happens now? There's no one left to rule the Underworld.Desmina: Isn't there?Desmina: Now leave me.

And:

<Character name>: Won't Dhuum just gain the strength to free himself again?Desmina: The alterations to the ritual assure that his new bonds are unbreakable.<Character name>: How will the Underworld operate without the reapers?Desmina: Efficiently.

The PC wouldn't bother saying "there's no one left to rule the Underworld" if they themselves were going to replace the Reapers as rulers of the Underworld.

The PC is oblivious and it may not be in Desmina's interests to reveal that to the PC if she intends to secure absolute rule of the UW. The implications are obvious. Not that the PC would or should be interested in the role at present. So that works out well for everyone. Except the former reapers. RIP.

You're contradicting yourself there. The entire and sole role of the Reapers was to govern the Underworld. If Desmina has absolute rule of the UW then the role of the Reapers is irrelevant and unnecessary.

The Reapers are nothing more than the souls of seven mortals elevated by Grenth as a reward for helping him take out Dhuum. Think of them like marquess, given titles and lands by a newly crowned king. They ruled over portions of the Underworld, and nothing more. It was other servants, such as The Judge, who had special tasks in the Underworld rather than merely ruling and ensuring delegation of tasks were done right in Grenth's absence. One may argue that they were also blessed with power to deal with such rulership, but the raiders aren't given power by Desmina; similarly, as you say, they're not given titles nor land by Desmina, the "newly crowned queen" so to speak.

She may decide to offer them rewards upon the raiders' deaths for their assistance in handling Dhuum, but she has done no such thing yet. Their stand-in for the Reapers is ultimately just Desmina taking advantage of the situation of finding mortal help to trick the Reapers into sacrificing themselves to enhance the ritual that binds Dhuum. There's nothing subliminal about it.

But... Desmina literally states that she is taking control of the underworld. I recall seeing a line saying that she would rule the Underworld in Grenth's name/as he would, since he has left it.
