how do I post pictures, rather than links, on the new forums, using imgur?

Recommended Posts

It took me a while to figure out how to post pictures on the old forum, there was a link image button and links using the direct image of a picture on imgur would post a picture to the forum.  The link button on the new forum has a field for the url, and a field for link text.   I am not sure what link text is. kind of like tiny url?  stoneskin

these are all the same picture:

Trying to directly paste the, direct link, of an image onto the post itself gives an error message  saying that the link could not be imbedded because that URL is not allowed.

from what I recall this type of address would post a picture directly:  https://i.imgur.com/UKEZG1Tm.jpg that was the direct link option.

image link: https://imgur.com/UKEZG1T  the image link may be pasted into a post and will function as a link. All the other image links from imgur have to be added using the link button or they just appear as plain text.

Also, Editing an old post will break all the imbedded images and they will become links.

Are we just not allowed to post pictures directly to the forums anymore?

At the moment I don't think it's possible. There used to be a button in the bottom right corner of the reply window to add a picture, but that's gone and I can't see any other way to do it.

I hope it gets reenabled at some point because it's a very useful function. In addition to fun topics (like sharing your character's skins) it's often useful for illustrating guides and when someone is having trouble with something it's often easier for them to share a screenshot than try to describe it.

The old forum was powered by Vanilla Forums.

The new forum is powered by Invision Community.

I've spent a few minutes reading through their stuff. It was not fun.  They offer information for their customers, but barely anything useful for the users.

While the paint-job looks like the old forum, it is basically a completely new board.

At the moment it appears that we are still in a test-phase. For some weird reason, the title-option was active the first day and then disabled :S. Editing was disabled at the beginning as well. Now they have shut down the picture-post option. Either by accident or intended. The board works a little different to our old one. To get a more detailed overview, click on your name in the top-right corner of the web-page and view your profile. On the next page, there is a white button called "See my activity." If you then look on the left side of the page, you see a navigation:

As far as I understood, the normal method on an Invision Community board goes as follows:

1.) You upload a picture to your GALLERY, either a single image or an album

2.) You write a post/thread

3.) You attach the image from your GALLERY to the post.

4.) Then you have to position the picture in the post. Else it would be just attached at the bottom.

It looks complicated. I really hope we get the 'insert-url' feature back. If not, I fear we have to make a video of how to post pictures on this board, with multilingual subtitles.

The option was working for a short while after the forum change, but is now disabled - so, editing posts with image embedded will now convert those images into normal url links. Considering it got actively disabled, it seems devs just don't want us to post images on those forums.

hrm, I followed the steps Astralporing listed, however I see no option to upload images to my gallery.  Perhaps he is right about Anet not wanting images posted to the forums.  That is strange considering most of us are adults, most images would be of the game, and there are mods to patrol the forums.  I do hope they allow us to post images to the forums again, even if it is convoluted, or requires mod approval for each image in our gallery.

It is also very apparent that the feature is simply disabled by the devs when you actually try to insert images into the editor ...
