No Shortbow trait?

Some of the elite specs also don't have weapon traits -

no shield trait for chronomancers

no greatsword trait for reapers (though IIRC they used to?)

arguable re dragonhunters (Pure of Sight isn't strictly a weapon trait, but it's close)

Ele (weaver) does have a weapon trait - Master's Fortitude

Also, core ele does still kind of have a weapon trait skill (Arcane Resurrection), which also buffs geyser (staff 3 water)

Yeah, soul eater used to be the greatsword traitor reaper, but it got changed to a general effect as long as you are in melee range.

In the same situation as dragonhunter is holosmith. They don't have a trait that really specifically buffs sword, but enhanced capacity storage unit basically serves as the weapon trait, since it enhances the heat bar to 3 bars and all 3 sword skills scale with heat.

Shortbow gets a lot out of the poison, bleed and torment related traits in Trickery and Deadly arts now. It's a bit like steal in that can customise it to do lots of different things, which is kinda cool I think. Besides what the other guy said in reducing the cost of infiltrator's arrow, I don't know what you'd even add to it with a weapon specific trait either.

Word of wisdom: "Better have no trait than a useless one."

A simple example being the warrior's mace trait Sundering mace that have little to no use in game. Granted that defense traitline already isn't very attractive due to two traits with 300s ICD, it's more of a waste of trait sloth than anything.

At some point in time ANet started a project of making weapon traits have a wider range of usefulness by releasing part of their bonus from the shackle of wielding a specific weapon... Unfortunately like many projects it was dropped/forgotten after being half done...

And you also have traits like the one for Pistol that actually decreases strike damage by 5% in exchange for making the attacks Pierce.
