Game Crash & Disconnection Issues [merged]

This thread does not in any way replace a ticket that you may wish to submit to our Customer Support Team. Please do feel free to submit a ticket for crash or disconnection issues, choosing Technical Support as the prompt. Providing the information listed below would be very helpful.

From a forum perspective, I'd like to be a little more organized about these reports and merge them into this one main thread, to aid our team is reviewing such issues.

A lot of times, crashing and disconnection issues are individual issues, such as a problem with an ISP, a regional "Internet backbone" issues, or things of that sort. But sometimes they point to a game issue. And in either case, we would like to know about them to see what we can do to correct them. Therefore, I've started this thread and will merge the threads of players experiencing crash and disconnection issues -- even if they may be different in cause or description -- in order to create a thread that is super helpful and efficient for the devs to review. The merged thread will give them a single place to check on crash and diconnection issues, review your Game Advisor data, and so forth.

So please post here if you have a crash issue, and remember that sharing some additional information would be very helpful:

  • Date and time of crash
  • Your general location (state, country, etc.)
  • Whether you're on a NA or EU world
  • Error code you received, if any, when you crashed
  • Your Game Advisor info, if you have run the program

Thank you.

For a while now I've been getting constant disconnects and they always show the same error code (when one is shown). At first I thought it was just the game but when I looked around the old forums it was listed as being a packet loss error. Sometimes, not all or even half, I am sometimes (not every time) getting kicked from TS3/Vent/Discord when I have them running. Since I was getting these disconnects from TS3/Vent/Discord simultaneously I contacted my ISP and they installed a signal boost on my line. That helped for a little bit but now the occurrence of the error is more frequent but the disconnect from VOIP are not as often as it was. Anyone have any ideas for a fix to this issue?

Things I've noticed with this error:

    1) A lot of the time it happens when I'm using teleport abilities in game such as blink or shadow step.
    2) While they do happen in combat, I also will get disconnected while standing still in a guild hall or other location, including home instance with no one else in the instance or in my party
    3) A number of times I've gotten disconnected after harvesting a node in a home instance or guild hall. I harvest the node but the items are not put in my inventory. I am given a "search" prompt and cannot pick up the items and shortly disconnect. Tool charges (when using non-infinite tools) is marked off.

I have done the following steps so far:

    1) As I said, I have contacted my ISP and after some investigation they put a booster on my line. I have cable internet.

    2) I ran a repair on the game client.

Any help ill be greatly appreciated.

  • hi,
try to get your blocklist/friends lists shortered; or maybe try to test it with a trial account.

Thanks for the comment, I'll try the suggestion though this does happen on all four of my accounts. Two of my accounts have dramatically shorter friends lists than the others.

ok, my suggestion come from my experience, my account is from 2012 and the lists has grown with the years; I tried everything even the reinstallation of the game and the OS; in my case I went straight to empty completely the blocklist( yeah kinda sux I know), and the friendlist is now very minimal( the scroll doesn't appear, before it was like a guild roster).

I had constantly disconnections with code 7, and whle playing I had some very unwanted lag spikes; after the optimization I did as explained, its being a week now without a single lag spike and a single disconnection. (I know my ISP is not acting very good, packetloss, but its the sum of all things and something related to the latest patch that pushed to the edge and the problem appears, ofc in my case)

I would also check the current power scheme used in windows, should be on performace, if its not a clean installation of windows the scheme could be corrupted but there is a restore to default button. (the scheme in use after the update to windows creator update was causing DPC latency, you could recognize the problem while watching a movie in streaming and the video will be desyncronized from the audio)

I had also the audio configuration(the GW2 audio panel) tuned to have the miniminal stuff.

  • Check your router/modem/switch to make sure TCP ports 80, 443, and 6112 are open. If they are, you may want to check with your ISP to see if the ports are having issues on their end.

  • Same problem, and I have seen that one year ago there were forum threads about the same error... Anyone have been able to solve it?

  • Same error here.. i don't know whant to do :(
    Any help?

  • Are you italian with Vodafone perhaps? Because they have major connection problems since tuesday.
It can be temp-fixed with pingzapper.

  • i guess we all still have this problem? its been weeks :/

  • It started happening to me today. I can maaaybe play about 10-15 minutes before it disconnects.

  • I was just getting stuck on 10 minute loading screens, now I am disconnecting. All my computer specs/trace/ping is in the other thread.

  • I was continually getting this error last night - everything else I had up (Skype, Steam, and Discord) was running fine.

Had it twice in the last few hours.. seems to run fine for a few days then boom.

I have been having some weird pings in game, yet nothing outside of it.. when I say weird I mean jumping from like 40ms upto 12kms without a disconnects, then suddenly ping and average zip to 0ms and a few seconds later client connection issue hits back.
When it happens logging back in becomes tedious to say the least.. horrendous delays with login server, but once again nothing outside of game is affected, nada.

Life is what YOU make it... NOT what others tell you!

  • I've been having this issue recently, nothing I tried has seemed to help. I'm in contact with support to hopefully figure something out. The lag is so bad I can't even play for more than a few minutes before getting frustrated at waiting 10 seconds for an action to take place. Any difficult combat is out of the question as well.

I have been having this problem off and on since the launch of PoF. I reduced my settings to Low and that did improve things a bit. I have no other connection difficulties with other programs. The situation got worse once Halloween launched. Today has been especially bad when trying to get into harvest guild halls in both HoT and PoF instances.

Just then, pvp finally came up, half way saw friends go offline then I got d/c. Last 3 days has been really bad with meta dcs too. Can't even log back in, everything else on the internet is fine other games, websites etc.

  • I've been having the same issue very frustrating at the least... I haven't really been able to play now from Sept & on... I have no issues with other games or my ts client.

  • we've been having the same issue until now with the same error. i don't think this is a minority case since we're from different countries, i assume. can we get any GMs here? is there any update from them regarding this matter?

Simple answer is No. They have no control over what's causing it.

  • Hi
    I have same problem.

  • Hi,
I have the problem too and it feels like it is getting worse.
Sometimes it helps to start the game via clientport 443.
Sometimes it helps to execute "netsh winsock reset catalog" via cmd (admin).
    But it is luck.

  • This started around the Halloween update (maybe a bit earlier, it's hard to remember exactly) and has been an unrelenting pain ever since. The game will freeze up out of nowhere, stay frozen for a good couple of minutes, then disconnect me. I have lost a ton of progress thanks to this (mostly in fractals, but also story missions and when soloing in the open world). At first I assumed the GW2 servers were having some temporary difficulties due to an update, so I tried being patient and waiting for the issue to be resolved. But at this point it has been weeks, and the issue has not abated whatsoever. I am crashing at least once every couple of hours (more like once every 30 minutes in fractals), and it is completely killing my desire to play the game. What the heck is going on?!

  • Having this problem as well and only recently got POF (which is when the issue started to appear) game will 'hang' then everything will all jump at once suddenly for 2 -3 mins before the whole thing starts again.

Eventually this leads to a disconnect with a 7: 11: 3 error, because of this I am unable to do living story, events or anything in instances.

  • I'm from france and have the same issue.
    I'm frustrated AF.
Anyone getting a clue or smth ?
    be brave my friends..

  • Pingzapper seems to have fixed the dreaded 101 disconnect for me. It isn't going to be the solution for everyone as it isn't a freeware program, but after two days of playing using it, I haven't had any disconnects. My disconnects usually occurred during cut scenes inside story chapters. I have been playing through again and letting them play through without cutting them short and no further disconnects. I wanted to share because this is the most frustrating experience I have ever had with an on-line game, especially since Anet is content to ignore the problem. Anyway, I hope it helps someone. If the problem returns I will come back and provide an update.

  • same error code, only game that has the issue. needs to be addressed. for now, boycotting the game

Anet is not content to ignore the problem.

You used a 3rd party program to fix your connection problem. Its not their connection problem, they can only assist you in identifying the problem if you submit a support ticket. We as players connect to Anet, our ISP controls the path the connection takes to get to the server. The problem everyone is having is with the nodes between your computer and Anet, this is our problem. Until people start realizing this and take the right steps to identify the problem and fix it, the problems will continue. Download and run pingplotter, it will show you exactly where the problem is. Then take the pingplotter information and contact your ISP. You may have to go through multiple tiers of tech support but they are the only ones that can fix it. There are many reason why a node maybe having issues, power outages, equipment damage, high usage or maybe they just have a crappy infrastructure. People like yourself have found VPN's and other 3rd party software that adjusts your routing to avoid the problem area, it may work for some people others it may not.
A network problem with Anet would affect every single player not just some. They are very fast at fixing and addressing that when it happens.

  • Yep, today is going INSANE with the disconnects, both in gw2 and gw1, whats going on?

Anyway, look into Pingzapper and third party programs like that for a solution. Because, quite frankly, as can be seen by the lack of input from Anet on these topics, they aren't helping. You can find evidence of this problem stretching back years. A million dollar company should be able to stretch it's resources farther than their player base to find out why they are the one on-line game constantly and consistently disconnecting so many of their players from so many ranging locations.

I don't want to argue the point with anyone, or discuss how I spent many weeks back and forth last year with Anet trying to get help; I just want to help those who want to enjoy the game without being disconnected.

Perhaps gator is on to something, contact your ISP and see what they say. Please post your results here for the benefit of all.

  • this disconnect issue happened a lot to me today...my internet is fine >.<

  • I just started having the similar problems as well. About every 30 to 45 minutes the game will freeze and I have to restart my computer to even get back to desktop. Haven't been able to find any solutions yet.

  • I've experienced the same though not as frequently. As in the above post, I've had to restart.

  • It's highly annoying, you know your gaming experience is going to suck the moment you log on. There constant glitching no matter which map you're on and then the freeze of death. Not only does the game not disable correctly but it dominates the window, I've had to restart the computer every time this happens. But since it's not my system, trust me I've checked. It even happens after start up and according to System Manager nothing else is running even in the processes it's in normal state, so the computer is doing nothing else. Part of the problem is the 32 bit client which failed again after the last patch. I have to reload the client every so many months as it fails to connect after so many updates.

  • fix this...kitten

  • My disconnect problem only started with PoF and only happens during the cinematic of the LW story instances. It's frustrating because I've had to repeat the entire instance again. Very frustrating when it happens on the last one in the instance. I play a number of other games and do not disconnect so I don't think it's on my side, especially since the DC's are happening at during the cinematics and not in open world.

  • Blur.3465Blur.3465 Member ✭✭✭

Hmmm...I am unsure if it's Windows 10 Fall Creators Update or if it's the game itself. I've had the game freeze on me 3 times now and I had to manually restart it.
If you have updated to Fall Creators Update, then that might be the issue...considering that many other people are having the same problem with this W10 update.

  • It does seem to be an issue with Win 10 Fall Creators Update concerning problems with DirectX.

Try the following as a fix.
Right click your GW2 exe, choose Compatibility and check Override high dpi and disable Full screen optimizations.
    Hope this works

  • No solution so far for this issue? in my case, it happens to me everytime I'm playing story mode. So it is really frustrating to waste 40 minutes playing an instance and then get DC and lose all your progress. I cannot understand how there is no reconnect option since I can just login instantly after the dc but lose all my progress. This is ruining my game experience.

same after the same story instance.. but outside of this instance i dont have any problems. i cant finish my PoF story due to that...

So ive fixed my story disconnect guys. Ive done the following things.. unluckily ive done them both at the same time so im not 100% sure which actually fixed it.

    1. Ive removed the game and downloaded+installed it again ( on an ssd not on my hdd)
    2. Ive changed my Ip-Adress from dynamic to a static one.
  • I tried two things and looks like mine is fine for now.
    1. i set my computer as DMZ on my router (basically opens up every port for my pc)
    2. add " -clientport 443" at the end of my shortcut target.
    hope it helps you guys.

  • I'm getting crashes like this too every now and then. Usually a couple times a day. Just lost out on the Legendary Forged Demolisher's chest because the game froze and crashed right as I was about to open it.

    This is my signature.

  • I'm also getting freezes. Started about a week ago. PC lets me cont-alt-del and sign out and back again. I checked the 2 boxes in the compatibility tab of the Gw2.exe properties (disable fullscreen optimizations and override high dpi scaling). I also disabled windows 10 game bar, game dvr and game mode. disabled game mode in registry. After doing all that tonight I got another frozen screen. PC doesn't even log any event critical or otherwise and gw2 doesn't give its crash dialog box for sending info to anet. My GeForce drivers are current. I have an intel i7 2600k, 2 gtx 660's sli and 8gb ddr3 ram.

  • Dear gamers, let's go about it a bit more analytically and compare notes!

If the usual "Did you try turning iff off and on again?" (on any piece of hardware and software related to your internet connection that is accessible to you) did not work (and the arenanet servers are not generally down):

First, have a look at this link:
    https://help.guildwars2.com/hc/en-us/articles/201863018-Häufige-Fehler-Codes
and see if your error code is maybe already listed there.

    Then check out this link:
    https://help.guildwars2.com/hc/en-us/articles/201862998
do what the call the "Guild Wars 2 Diagnostic" or "Traceroute Instructions",
and have a look at the log that is created.

For connectivity issues, the part called "Tracing network paths" might be the most interesting, but your problem may also well be at another point.

If it is the "Tracing network paths", the diagnostics routine effectively executes a pathping (see https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc958876.aspx for documentation; you can also yourself enter the command "pathping -w 500 -q 50 -4 206.127.158.1" in the Windows command prompt and check out your connectivity to other websites etc), the output should look something like this for a working connection:

            ==============================================================================
= Tracing network paths (about 10 mins)
            ==============================================================================
            *--> pathping -w 500 -q 50 -4 206.127.158.1 <--*

Oh God, I thought I was the only one experiencing this.

I started getting this issue about one to two weeks ago and for the past few days, the crashes are so bad that the game would crash immediately or a few seconds upon entering into the game map.

It had also progressed from the game crashing to windows to now crashing the whole system and I had to do a hard reset of my pc each time.

I'm using windows 10 with automatic updates enabled as well so I'm not sure if all of us are having similar issues with the same root causes.
