Old stuff gets easier and cheaper to obtain. That’s how live games often work. Not to mention a fair amount of stuff IRL.

It remains to be seen if legendary armor is enough to carry these metas and rift hunting. If players generally decide it’s easier and faster to flip camps or afk PvP or farm gold for raid carried then the metas will die and rifts will be a huge burden. If these metas and rift farming provided a decent reward apart from Obsidian armor mats it would keep the population engaged with them so that Obsidian armor remains doable years from now.

Definitely not what ANet is going for, I expect: "The players of our game will regret asking for things to be added to the game. They will fear doing so in the future." Though I'll admit, they have achieved it more than once. "We want Cantha" springs to mind. Maybe it's good they finally locked the swimsuit thread....😬

One of the things I like about legendary armor is that it comes in 18 distinct pieces. People tend to quote the price for a full set, or a full set of one weight, but you can totally pursue one piece at a time. I managed my PvP back item, then two PvP armor pieces before getting tired of the afkers and match blowouts. And I'm glad I have those two pieces so far. Of course, this time there's considerable cost in the gateway achievement, so doing one piece doesn't mean only 1/6th or 1/18th the cost. From what I can see right now, though, I'll likely do the Astral Armor, then try to knock out one piece of Obsidian, then reassess whether I want to keep going. Long term goals are always nice when you get rewarded at the mileposts along the way.

I know a bunch of people have engaged with the content over the last week way more that I have and therefore know a lot more about it. But I keep seeing the same thing across many threads here and on reddit. On the whole, the population of the game is still figuring out these 1 week old systems and content. So many conversations have someone boldly declaring how a thing works, or what it costs, and then someone else pops up to note that it works a little differently than that or that there is an alternative source of an item or currency, or other things that change the calculus, so to speak. It'd really better for everyone not to rush to judgment and remain open to the fact that they might not know a detail that significantly changes things. Also, the player base hasn't yet had the time to develop cultural responses that may make things feel very different a month from now. FWTW YMMV Oh, and... DFTT

I appreciate that your post actually weighs the costs against other armor. Yes, some advocates for OW L Armor hyperbolically argued “doesn’t matter the cost”, and I see some people are still saying that. But any rational argument recognizes that there is an appropriate cost between “free day 1” and “playing the game like a full time job for the next ten years might earn one piece”. No one is advocating for either of those extremes, so the meaningful conversation is left to how much it requires, and whether that feels proportional to the time, effort, skill, and social coordination needed for the other three sets. I haven’t dug into the requirements enough to have a meaningful opinion, myself. Apart from the overall cost of Obsidian Armor, seeing that the astral armor only requires one weight, the numbers look to me like a reasonable goal to work toward. I do feel sorry for those that only want the skins, though. I do think this whole conversation may be premature. We’re going to need to see how players settle into rift hunting to know difficult the essence grind is going to be. Emergent gameplay may be a big factor. For example, HoT HPs look daunting to a new player, but if you can jump on one of the regular trains, it’s no big deal. Triple trouble is another part of the game that is carried by how players are willing to engage with it. If a chunk of the population adopts Rift trains the cost of Obsidian Armor is going to feel very different than if rifts get tasted then largely abandoned.

"Improved Equipment Warnings"

It’s the gear that cried, “Wolf!” -
I experienced a lot of social interaction over the Valdhertz daily on Saturday. People were explaining how to unlock, trying to portal people, explaining the puzzles, shouting “don’t attack until they finish the dialogue” in vain, and announcing “well, two chests opened that time” to each other. It was like a small taste of Wayfarer’s Henge Draconis Mons camaraderie.

Remember that this is a 77 day cycle you’re looking at. A lot of the things will sell you about what you would have gotten in three 28 day cycles of the old system. As to the legendary boxes, you’re talking leggies that have been in game for a decade now. You can only get one this cycle, and will still have to provide the rest of the required materials. The ascended boxes are the only thing that seems questionable.

A New Friend Achievement
Gibson.4036 replied to SRMorgan.6124's topic in Secrets of the Obscure Discussion (Archived)
You benefit from doing both mastery lines, not the collections. Only reason to do a new friend if you got Skyscale in PoF is if you want to unlock the skin collection. -
Am I the only one not enjoying this expansion?
Gibson.4036 replied to GingeraleDragon.5804's topic in Guild Wars 2 Discussion
We got three expansions over ten years. Sure, SotO doesn’t match any of them. But if they can pull off a mini-expansion every year through 2024 and 2025, together they might come close. -
Positive Feedback: I like SOTO

I’m nervous were going to get some change to WV that will make it worse because of all the complaining.
