  1. That "Live Team" should've invested that time into fixing the awful in-game mail system UI with it's pathetic 10 mail limit visible at a time until more are opened/removed instead of a glorified item & dye spy command. Sugesstion would be to have different tabs, one for players who are added to the friend list or in the same guild, another one for random players (who may flame and filth talk you through PM before they block, like absolute cowards), another one should be for CoD trade with players, one for the trading post, one for in-game NPCs, one for the green main story quest related stuff, one for lion trade company/gemstore and finally, one for the official arenanet related stuff. The one for random player (who may flame and filth talk you through PM before they block, like absolute cowards) should have an option toggle to turn it off, this way, nobody can pull that nonsense as one would've pre-emptively toggled it off before PvP or whatever, which would probably make 'em sad, but ehh, [CENSORED] them. And for [CENSORED]'s sake, bump up the miserable (10) mail limit, older games then this have a higher limit with a little arrow pointing to the right to check mails past beyond the first 10, or better yet, a page system that goes " 1 2 3 4 5 > >Next 10 >>Last " Seriously, how is it that, with how old this game is by now, the in-game mail system still looks like something that has been whipped up in hurry by interns ten years ago? There are players who had mail deleted with its content lost due to this shoddy system (apparently, mails get auto-deleted after certain amount of time), mail with good stuff such as gold, mats, skins and even from anet itself, Living World Seasons, I had to write tickets to support regarding this, the reason I kept them in the mail is because I figured that they'll be safer there than, as had already happened to me before, unlocking it, around the time of "End of Dragons"s release, those Living World Seasons had mysteriously and very suspiciously become locked behind the gemwall (that's when I had to contact support about it, good thing I had screenshots as proof), thus of course, one would think it's better to leave them in the inbox. Could it be that anet is saving the proper decent in-game mail system for... "Guild Wars 3 - Dragons vs Gods, Chaotically Voidtastic Boogaloo"?
  2. Synergetics Dynamic Warcar (Warclaw Skin). Following the futuristic magitech theme from the other "Synergetics/Dynamics" mount types series (Skimmer, Rollerbeetle, Skyscale, Jackal & that "Jetboat Racer" Skiff), a Warclaw skin that is build like a car/small tank with a mecha-lion/hound face on the frontside, magitech neon lights and holographic hardlights, shiny electric metallic foil/aluminum chassis and a roaring engine that goes "VROOM VROOOM" with an "animal-esque" (think big cat or big dog) tone sound effect to it. WvWorlders would love it almost as much as anet loves $kin money$. It's a "Gemzillion" Gold idea, anet. You want it, the WvW players want it and more importantly... your ncsoft shareholding masters want it, thus get to it, it'll print revenue. But don't you dare lootbox it by putting it on the sleazy/scummy 0.3% ~ 3.0% odds gacha rates (as revealed per EU laws forcing them, otherwise they wouldn't reveal it + nxon being nxon getting caught further lowering the odds in korea) blak lion chest. Just put it on the cas- gemstore. Also, here is another idea, that's right, 2 in 1. Synergetic Jade Turtletank (Turtle Skin). The lore behind it would be that the asuras and the canthans signed a deal for a co-jointed project as a way, of sorts, to promote... diplomacy(?) between each other, which of course, manifests as a bloody jade powered turtle war machine. They would brainstorm ideas and once each of the two parties involved got over their inherent nasty smug superiority complex and obnoxious asura geniuses/canthan scientists behaviors, they got to work and... produced a thing... that'll probably sell a lot on gemstore.
  3. Huh, that's weird, "guild-wars2" folder weighted 70,8 GB, and that's without patching "Secrets of the Obscure" into it which I figured would bump it up by some gigs (how small is this latest expansion? Site's minimum requirements says 70 GB), anyway, don't think one can play a game like this through a flash drive/sdcard, would be way to laggy since it's a big file, loading maps, players (and their flashy cosmetic skins), npcs, etc would take too long, perhaps with an usb 3.1 and a high reading/writing speed external ones, hmm.... Yes, I know, my question was how much does the steam client weight, without any games or anything on it just bare fresh install. I'd have to factor whatever its weight is onto GW2's own weight, in this case ~70,8+ GB plus the steam client. I'm asking this because "Software Manager" tells me it's 1,3 MB to download then 4,1 MB space required, but I get the suspicion that it's higher then that. Wouldn't be the first time I install something that claims to be "~200 MB" and then ends up being almost 1 GB. Currently limited on space left and gw2 has the tendency to patch up sudden ~100 - ~300 MBs when they shuffle/rotate their cash shop stuff and I need that last 1,1 GB free for watching videos. That's why I'm asking these questions. Thanks for answering.
  4. I have some questions: How much does the GW2's .dat folder weight now that "SotO" has been released, I've given up on trying to make it work on my setup, hence why I won't even attempt to boot this game up and check it myself when I know all it'll do is eat away at my current limited amount of SSD space left, probably before it even gets anywhere near full download despite not having brought the expansion, because that's how "live services" type games work, and if not, the sheer volumes of new expansion themed cash shop skins and what else has probably driven the folder's above ( or close to) 100GB. For those who play this through steam, how much does the steam client weight? Assuming you don't need to download anything else and can simply direct a path link to the gw2.dat file in order to boot the game out of the box with just that command line to force non-steam account use. Has anet ever gotten around to fixing the problems with dx11? The saturated colors and other graphical errors, the lag/fps drops and the Trading Post/cash shop error crashes upon interacting with it? How has the game been treating linux players since the expansion's release fps wise? Asking because out of own experience it seems that with every expansion/big patch, they're looking into making non-windows players times harder and having to jump through hoops trying to make a game that worked "yesterday and the day before" just fine, worse, or not work at all if PoF to EoD is to go by. I generally read those playing this through steam being content save for the first few days after anet does one of their updates and the latest proton runner hasn't been released yet, but I felt like asking anyways.
  5. Hahahaha. Logged in just to laugh at this mess, I was told that today was GW2's big xpansion release day, thus out of morbid curiosity, I decided to check out some of the pitiful streamers (which I otherwise never do), let me tell you, it was hard to find one that's not a total ytube e-celeb influencer wannabe, overly hyped, annoying and obnoxious clown. When I finally do find one that's not a butthole, he can't play this poop due to some "Error 37" style problem. After a while, I check again and both him as well as others can't play the new zones due to not having pre-ordered it and the in-game/web shops not letting allowing them purchases. And that's just those who can even log in, a number of them seem to be stuck at the launcher throwing errors at them and crashing them out of the character selection. What a typical anet doo-doo show, as expected.
  6. Classic & typical anet. Bet plenty of players will also experience all sorts of technical issues, such as, but not limited to, login errors/crashes, performance issues (fps, stuttering, lag, disconnections, graphical problems, player count in new zones, delayed delivery if not ignored in-game purchases, etc) and slow, borderline useless costumer support. Wouldn't be a GW2 xpac launch without all of these.
  7. The thing is, today, or rather yesterday at this hour, in the morning before this daamned patch, I was able to play just fine (enough...), and now this. Also, I am not the only one who was forced to force -dx9 to make this work and they too are now bricked out of playing the game as of the latest patch since they too can't use anet's sorry dx11 spaghetti implementation, apparently it causes them graphical and or performance issues. I have a policy regarding things that work, which is to not fix (break) them. I wouldn't go disabling things if things worked, the -dx9 thing wasn't working 'till I toggled off the DXVK/VKD3D setting, and only then did the game properly launch. Just what is it with companies/devs and their zealous fixation on taking options away from users?
  8. Aaaand IT'S GONE! Adding a -dx9 line in arguments no longer works, bravo anet, you've gone done it once again. I freaking knew it would be a short lived thing, didn't expect it would be over so soon, figured 'till the expansion drops but hahah nope. Oh well, that's it. Really speedrunning my prophecy, huh anet? From July 8 to July 19. So much for that.
  9. @Chaba.5410 Either way, for the time being, players can't play, see how long it'll take them to fix this one, that is of course, if the even intend to bother at all.
  10. Confirming that as of today's crapatch, the -dx9 line line added as an argument to force the game run in dx9 and be at least playable, no longer works. anet has been making some of the most bonehead decisions lately, and I am talking things on a technical level that just makes the game unplayable, I thought it was just a linux thing, but it seems to me now that there is more to it then just running on an unsupported OS. Apparently even micro$oft and crapple players are also experiencing difficulties with these crapatches as of late. Well, at least I can take solace in the fact that anet is sinking the ship for everyone who doesn't have the latest up-to-date hardware/software of anet's designated choice. Sure makes me feel better about not being able to play this, and I was just beginning to get into it after trying out builds, it is obvious at this point that anet's plans is to keep re-engineering their already heavily modified nearly two decades year old GW1 engine into something of a mock up mess for the sake of unreal engine. Shame, they used to be all about low-end computers, which is what made their old time competitions grow and stay titanically large. Ever since EoD, these continuous tweaks have done nothing but make the game look worse for those who can at least still play and unplayable for others, the most pants on head stupidest fixation they have on taking options away from players who either aren't impressed with their technical direction or simply can't play otherwise has reached a compounding level of unreasonable today by taking away the -dx9 option. Sick of these catch and mouse games every other two month or three months, it just keeps getting worse and worse I can already tell that their answer to this mess is going to simply be yet another cash shop skin. PS: Yes, I am playing in an admittedly rather old kernel, point is that it used to be possible to play with little to no problems and one could be content with that, well those days seem to be all but over now. Same here, at the end of around march, right when they had the lion statuette even going they decided to pull some BS and it bricked the game on me for months 'till I figured the -dx9 trick. Today, they have gone off the deep end in terms of boneheadedness, straight up evil.
  11. And what a mess this turned out to be. Seems like this is the point were all the graphical issues and crashes started. Post may be old, but spoilers, it only got worse from here on, bad job devs.
  12. Months ago, I attempted to fix the arenanet direct x whatever patch issue which bricked my client/cut me off playing, right during the lion statuettes weeks, due to that, I missed out on those (thanks anet, could've waited a week or two, then again, linux user problems are not anet's problems as it's not officially supported, I get that). I checked here to get some answers, and I did get answers, namely, my drivers are outdated, too outdated for GW2 apparentely, despite it being an old modded GW1 engine, strange thing is that it can play that actiblizz mmo, with no problems (I was just testing some thing, no way would I ever give money to that nasty company/corporation, eww. I just wanted to gouge how far outdated my drivers were to see if maybe it was a broken client issue), user (@zistenz.1945) told me that my Vulkan couldn't detect my gpu (I posted an info log error dump in the hopes that someone more tech savvy could see what I don't understand) despite it being compatible with DX11/12/Vulkan (Thank (@zistenz.1945) you for that, I wasn't aware of my outdated stuff) this confused me because other games had no such problems, I was instructed to copy&paste ~$ vulkaninfo | grep -i "version" on the terminal, got this: Vulkan Instance Version: 1.1.70 VK_LAYER_MANGOHUD_overlay (Vulkan Hud Overlay) Vulkan version 1.2.135, layer version 1 VK_LAYER_LUNARG_standard_validation (LunarG Standard Validation Layer) Vulkan version 1.0.70, layer version 1 apiVersion = 0x402080 (1.2.128) driverVersion = 83886088 (0x5000008) VK_KHR_sampler_ycbcr_conversion : extension revision 1 After that I made some half-asssed attempts at updating/upgrading my drivers, well, here is where the micro$oft's market share for a reason part comes in, it's not very intuitive or simple and it makes one feel like the first time one types "about:config" on a FF address bar and get that warning message, it's not a "few clicks away" deal. I know, I knew what I was getting myself into (or at least I thought so) by running linux, and how an answer/solution for one may not work for another, for a while, every other day of every other week, I would spend no more then ~half~ an hour trying to find solutions and applying them, nothing worked, still on an outdated version of both the gpu and the vulkan drivers. Seems that a linux mint 19 + a 5.4.0 is "too old" for amd gpu, mesa & vulkan updates. There is also a supposed missing "GLIBC_2.28", which cannot be upgraded/updated, would require me to back-up all my data (just in case, you never know with linux) and install a linux mint 20/21/22, which unfortunately for me, I can't do due to not enough space at the moment. Log for Guild Wars 2 (wine): (wine:25978): GStreamer-WARNING **: 05:56:38.494: Failed to load plugin '/home/redacted/.local/share/lutris/runners/wine/lutris-7.2-2-x86_64/lib64/gstreamer-1.0/libgstlibav.so': /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.28' not found (required by /home/redacted/.local/share/lutris/runners/wine/lutris-7.2-2-x86_64/lib64/libavformat.so.58) (wine:25978): GStreamer-WARNING **: 05:56:38.536: Failed to load plugin '/home/redacted/.local/share/lutris/runners/wine/lutris-7.2-2-x86_64/lib64/gstreamer-1.0/libgstshm.so': /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.28' not found (required by /home/redacted/.local/share/lutris/runners/wine/lutris-7.2-2-x86_64/lib64/gstreamer-1.0/libgstshm.so) Same reason I haven't gone with steam (something I really prefer not to, I don't trust them). NEVERMIND! As I tinker and tamper around the configuration while writting this, it occured to me trying out adding a -dx9 line on the Configure -> Arguments. It failed. But, after going to Configure -> Runner options -> Enable DXVK/VKD3D [OFF], now it does work, the game finally fking works and I was able to log in for the first time in months (since the Black Lion Requisition Mission weeks). kitten, would've thought all I had to do was this specific thing, this is why I don't like sort of things, not only does one have to headram into the problem wall till it works (those who aren't tech savvy enough to figure these things out, that is), there are specific bricks in said problem wall that are the ones needed to be head rammed into to do the trick, good fun/luck and patience figuring out which one by accident/luck/scraps of hints scattered throughout the internet! I have now been playing, well, moving around for a while, just to check if the game works, and so far, other then no longer having that DXVK/VKD3D FPS counter on the top-left, the game is seemingly running at 60fps in the SPvP mists lobby zone, I do feel that I'll probably need to tinker with the configurations in order to come up with better optimizations for this dx9 band-aid solution. Bah, had I tried this months ago... kitten. You may be wondering: "Why is he posting all of this then? If he got the game running, no need to spam the thread with all this crap." Well, you would be right, I just thought I'd pay back to the linux community on this forum playing this game, just in case someone out there like me ran into the same issues with this game in a similar situation and computer build (outdated drivers apparently) as mine, for the sake of documentation, how all it took was to disable DXVK/VKD3D and add a -dx9 line in Arguments, Wine version = lutris-7.2-2x86_64 (if anyone would wonder about that) I know it's not an optimal solution, but it's something at least (at least until anet somehow finds a way to fk it up). Also one more thing, @SoftFootpaws.9134 Posted April 24 (edited): "What's the information on your operating system? I couldn't find it in your original post, though maybe I'm just blind since there was alot to skim through. " "You should install Steam even if you don't use it, because its a good way to make sure your system has all the things by forcing the package manager to pull them in. Installing it will bring in anything that you're missing for running games except for the hardware drivers themselves." Thank you for both the information on what steam does forcing the package manager to get the necessary things needed, I did not know it could do that, and for trying to help me out (at least I presume that was the intend of asking me for information on my operating system), I appreciate it, excuse me I didn't reply back, I had just gotten burned out of trying to make the game work and had sort of quit and dropped off this whole thing despite me saying that I would regularly monitor this thread for possible solutions.
  13. You just know it's going to be a "Flame Serpent Weapon Chest" 2.0 situation. It's the first thing I thought when reading it. The real enticement is going to be the "Pay early to receive a BETA test privilege" Edit: (Very relevant, specially that california part) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9hfZJ9VKPE
  14. @Veprovina.4876 I am rather iffy about steam and will try to avoid it if possible, that said, it does seem to be a final solution type of case given that lutris isn't shaping better any time, from what I've gathered, it has to do with how it conflicts with anet's incoherent UI at the launcher phase. Been thinking about it, good to know one can simply move that fat .dat file over. Still, don't like feeling cornered between lutris' BS and gaben's intrusive game garden. @zistenz.1945 Now this is something I can appreciate, you're saying that my Mesa drivers are outdated and thus failing to properly detect my graphic card due to it? Same with the version of my Vulkan? Any way to update it? Or do I need to uninstall/re-install it? What a disappointment, I thought that all this time things were being kept up to date through the Update Manager on the backend, I assumed that it was done through it since the Driver Manager always says "Your computer does not need any additional drivers". How embarrassing. I'll look into it. Thanks.
  15. Haven't been able to play this for a while, since anet did something (probably their cursed, long overdue for replacement "Incoherent UI") in one of their update patches before the Super Adventure event. Keep getting an Error after the game patches, followed with "Initializing...", have to use the Tab key to focus on the Login, Remind me later and Play buttons, then press Enter because the mouse clicks wouldn't land where they're supposed to unless I mouseover the entire screen hunting down the elements, only to receive said error. Some time after I realized that due to the BS, missed out on the final week 4 Black Lion Statuettes rewards from the 4 week event where you have to donate materials, I was close to having enough for a thing I wanted for a character of mine. Of course, this injustice, which surely anet wouldn't do me good for (due to Linux and all/any issues related to it being non of their concern as it is not officially supported if I ever did manage to get back in the game, made me lose interest, having such a shaky foundation for those who play this on Linux, constantly one micro$oft favorable whimsical update patch away from being unable to play, I ruled it out as not worth it/fk it and went on to "greener pastures". But then Nexon went: "Nnnnah.", dropped the cease & desist mace + an iron lawsuit on it and now it's obviously dead in the courts. (apparently the indie lead devs were quite rogue-ish in their dark endeavours). Now, as I am staring at the GW2 banner icon contemplating about making space for other things by getting rid of its fat 70GB+ as$. I decide to re-confirm what I already know: "It won't work. It's dead. Let it go." by booting it up one more time to get that sweet Error message again, and I notice: "Oh? It's patching... and the "Initializing..." is gone, I can now click around without having to guess where the buttons are as the launcher is no longer bugged slightly to the upper left, which was weird". And oh! There it is! The Error, probably the same one too, just delete this piece of sh- wait... what if... what if I were to log in to the forums which I have used in the past to troubleshoot problems before? Well, I haven't ever posted anything on here before, how about one last try to get things running again before installing something else. Crashed at 23:24:16Z Needless to say, this ^ stuff is all chinese to me, why can't errors simply tell you: "Ahh, you're missing X and you need to do Y in order to make Z work again.". No, but well perhaps some of you can make something out of it, no pressure, I'll be seeking entertainment elsewhere in the meantime. One more thing: lutris-7.2-2-x86_64 (default), tried the "f-shack-7.2" version of it, didn't work, tried the "lutris-GE-Proton7-XX", none of them worked. DXVK folder has the "v2.1" folder in it, I suppose it has been auto updating itself, which hey, better if I don't have to do it myself, not sure if it has anything to the with the error, but it did ever throw a "DXVK: No adapters found. Please check your device filter settings and Vulkan setup." before on the lutris dropdown menu "Show Log". Exit with returncode 256 ^ That's from the aforementioned Lutris' Show Log that I CTRL+C & CTRL+V'd on another occasion. Well, that's all I got, in the past, I used to play this in full windowed screen, but then anet did something which caused the launcher to freeze my PC, the only way around being to switch over to the "Virtual Desktop Mode", which has a slew of its own issues such as no respect for the alt+tab mute option, certain characters such as : ' " ` or < & > not working in-game anymore to name a few, performance wise I could almost swear it worked better in full windowed, but that has been a long time and many patches ago, could be something else, at least I did use to get a steady 70 ~ 60 fps to 60 ~35 in the more crowded/active moments, thus I'd say this is not a hardware issue, but then again, what would I know? Perhaps the logs do point that out. Anyways, I knew for a while that this was coming, whenever anet talks about direct x and doing this to that... I already know it means incoming trouble for Linux players, generally those who aren't aces in the computing field and solving this sort of stuff will experience issues during the first hours/days of anet's accursed patches, not the first time, been in such situations before, wonder if this time it'll be the last here. Will check on this tab regularly for a possible solution, mmm thanks for reading. (damñ that's quite a wall, the error logs bloat it up, but I admit to having said perhaps a bit too much, excuse me on that).
