  1. I think this touches on two things been bugging me about Soto and prior EOTN (but not as much). How much god kitten asset reuse is going on now. You have all these really interesting demons and nearly all of them are reskins bar the main ones. Ramse's who's a fairly main secondary char is just a Naga Reskin. Then you look at most of the events and as you touched on its events we've been doing for years just applied differently. That exact same event really stood out to me as this is Demons were dealing with. It makes the whole thing feel really cheap and like its built on skeleton staff that don't have the ability to create anything new and kind of have to tweak what came prior. Ironically I use the phrase "its built by the interns" as it does feel like the sort of thing you'd ask a newbie to do. "Hey use these assets we have made prior and make us an event for the new map"
  2. Subjectively. That's up for debate based on what parameters you apply. Objectively. Yes...very much so. She was a mass murderer by the end even if she didn't start as one or mean to be one.
  3. Rifts main purpose seems to be to drive populations to old maps. Don't forget every time you close a rift it counts as an automatic tick on the map bonus rewards track. So what Anet seems to have done is separate the maps and the content grind from each other for SotO. Rifts are the content but there's no need for players to stay in the same 2 maps for a year grinding it. The idea seems to be pick a map you want to work on and at the same time smash a rift every now and then, that way work on both goals at the same time.
  4. EOD is rough.....really rough. A long time ago someone mentioned that the writing philosophy seemed to change. How in Guild Wars 1 and early GW2 the world was the main character and you were just someone that was in it. But from around Season 3 onwards it started to transition into the characters being the main focus and the world was just their backdrop. The problem is as anyone whose done some DMing knows. Most players don't give a kitten about your chars, they want to make their own storeys. If that is the case then EOD is at this time that philosophy at it's highest.
  5. Add that to the EOD one which heavily implied that something horrible is lurking in the ruins of Raisu Palace and may be contributing to the Risen we see in the area. That Zhaitan was the source but no longer the cause of them.
  6. There's an argument I often see on threads like this of astral ward set = legendary armor/ the armor sets precursor so the price is justified. Here's the thing...it's not. It's not the Legendary armor that's not even be released yet. It's not the precursor as if you look at the collection you need to unlock two more things , one of which is the armor set in the next map. So what we have here is an exotic tier armor set that's more expensive that any other because it just so happens to be part of a legendary armor collection achievement. I'd say the main problem with the set is the gifts, if you didn't have the gifts the set would cost about the same as the jade tech armor set from EOD. The alternate option is to keep the cost but make the set an Ascended Armor Set which I think would be the better option to be honest.
  7. I may have missed it during the gameplay but has it actually been explained what makes the Astral Ward's Fractals different from regular fractals? I seem to recall a long time ago it was established that Fractal's aren't real, their memory's, a sort of playback created out of the mists. Now my understanding is the ward has somehow found a way to take these "playbacks" and maintain them allowing them to run simulations. So computer programs from the mists. Now the attack caused problems and the Fractals bled over and so first map is us needing to save the people from the Fractals as they are "real". But never seen it explained how they became real and what was done different , as in theory couldn't we save Dessa's team and Arkk via whatever method the wizards have been using?
  8. Personally speaking I wouldn't say the writers are "mean spirited" but I have always felt there is a sub section of the GW2 creation team who seem to actively dislike/want nothing to do with GW1 lore. It was super notable in Cantha when they did everything they could to avoid going anywhere near anything from the old Cantha and made massive retcons/"fixed" the more problematic elements as they saw it. IBS also avoided a lot of old GW1 areas. There have been occasions throughout my time playing the franchise where I felt like the writers forget they were meant to be writing for a vast array of people and not themselves. My two main stand outs are Mid Living World Season 1 around Tower of Nightmares and EOD. I just got the impression in recent years they want to be unburdened from the past but in a weird kind of way I also feel SoTO felt like them going back and trying to fix some of the more egregious attacks and fix them (such as bringing Livia, Mursaat and Dwarves all back into the fold after they were kinda rapidly brushed off screen). I've been super impressed by SoTO it feels like a more mature story and less soap opera.
  9. Not much to share here. Been replaying Factions and noticed how similar in naming convention one of the Kurzick's Ancestors was to Peitha Count Archek Brauer "We have followed House zu Heltzer since before the Jade Wind washed over the forest. The houses united shall be a glorious sight to behold. Lyssa will be pleased. I give you this invocation of Saint Perahta, the most revered ancestor of House Lutgardis, [sic] to show our dedication to House zu Heltzer." I basically had to double take when read that line and just check the name's as was so similar. The basic idea of the crack theory is what if Pietha possessed House Brauers years prior. History goes by, Name's get lost and suddenly Pietha becomes Perahta. We know Kyrptis can possess people in the long term and recall (struggling to find the source) that says they have possessed people at the higher ends of Tyrian society in the past. The architecture of Nayos is similar to Kurzick one as well based on what we seen when we go there (that's a stretch though) More sharing to provoke discussion than anything.
  10. I've kinda stopped doing the Dailys now unless they are easy and the main reason is there's no choice. I really just wish we had the old system but with the Vault attached. It was nice getting to pick and choose which daily's fitted with the goals you had for the days. The additional problem is now I feel like I missing out on Acclaim by not logging in and thus I'm becoming even less inclined to log in as already missed two days whats a 3rd. In short everything about the current system is frustrating as we did this system all the way back in Living World Season 1 and it was pulled and changed to what we had for similar reasons.
  11. For me its read like a system someone designed to prevent an undesired activity thus the randomisation but it's just tedious to work around and I'm always stressed out may have missed a chest as the visual feedback is terrible.
  12. So here's my thoughts as someone whose not really played the game since the first few weeks of EOD's release and why it occurred: Like a lot of people I was super excited for the return to Cantha especially as an Elementalist Main. For most part I liked the areas. Shing Jea is amazing, Echovald is kinda fun once you start digging into it. Not big fan of the other two maps. So as a fairly casual/plot player I wasn't 100% happy with all the storys choices, feeling it got weaker as time went on but could look past them. So lets see what do we have left after that. Legendary Farming, Specification Weapon, New armor. Okay but a lot of it is in Strikes. One of Anets many attempts to push players into lower cost to produce content. And then they nerfed Catalyst after about 2 weeks....and I gave up. Seee the thing is my main character is an Elementalist. A class often nerfed and as a result kicked out of the very kind of content Anet wanted me to do and I didn't see the point grinding for the new gear if my build has to be respecced so often....and thus the desire to keep playing went. Now the argument could be to roll up another char but the thing is due to how certain things are tied to characters. My money is in this char and I want to play them and do the content Anet gave. Between this frustration and Anets constant carefuly worded marketing trying to hide the fact they don't have the resources to make the game anymore to the level it used to be I just gave up. It's been the on and off story for years now and I'm just tierd of giving them chances. So for me how do I feel about EOD: An half made expansion done on limited resources, that feels it ignores prior lore work laid down. Undoes a lot of what made Cantha enjoyable in GW1 and ultimately over relys on a form of content that certain chars will struggle to do. Oh yes and I hate the Research Notes system that discourages you from playing to earn them.
  13. Had fun with it at EOD launch. Felt fun to play and I was even using it in strikes and fractals. Not perfect but good solid 7/10 Then the patchs came and now back to being wet tissue again and going down a lot 3/10
  14. Seriously?. The raid community has spent YEARS moaning about a lack of new blood. The game has been pushing players to do raids and strikes to no avail So ANET has given basically the training mode which rotates to allow people to 1) Try the content and see if they like it without getting whiplash 2) Allow people to learn without getting punished if they messed up. And your moaning because it takes away imaginary e-peen? Psst heres a games psychology hint for you, if the rewards got reduced it would create tension and divides. It needs to be the same to get players to engage and then move on to other raids. And if it doesn't work then theres now a system in place that allows raids to go into support mode and not have its content locked out.
  15. From Post Launch to HOT. For me I ran on a potato but still loved the game and logged in every week pretty much to find out where the story was going next. A persistent world that kept changing permantly was the MMO I had been wanting for years.
