Also, maybe this is a bit different but aren't mounts technically abilities? Mounts themselves aren't equipped, they're unlocked as skill trees- and they have skins that can be applied. If there was a menu for class-skill skins, perhaps this would work to the same effect?

The only arguements against this I could imagine would be identifying spells, abilities in PvP/WvW, and some classes would get more of this than other, while some might have none at all. Necro has a lot of options with minions, multiple shrouds, and lich form, engi has a ton of kits, but I can't think of anything for thief or ranger (admittedly my seldom played classes).

The anomaly isnt' a sentient being but a creature made of excess magic. It shouldn't exist at all, and it's dangerous and has to be put down.  Krait are slavers and just evil in general. We've never met a friendly krait. The grawl attack you if you go near them, and you defend yourself.  There are areas of this game where your good status could be questions but none of the examples you've furnished are that type of thing.

Lol, you got a confused face on a very clear, and well articulated post, so you upset someone, lol.

I doubt there will be skins for the gunsabre. There are no skins for shroud or holo-weapons, no skins for ele/guad conjures or outfits for the renegade warband. It's a skill that looks like a weapon, and ANet has never done skins for skills, outside of what comes with legendaries.

This brings up a good point. There should be skins for abilities like shroud, engi flamethrower kit, wells, renegade summons, etc. Even if they are just in the gem shop, you could still eventually unlock them with conversion. I'm sure that won't happen for PvP purposes (and more than likely some coding issues), but it would be awesome to be able to customize my characters even further.

I always equip one ranged weapon on each character for this purpose. I don't necessarily stand all the way back but it does give me more movement capabilities beyond 130m. I do spend half my boss fights ressing people that die at the drop of a hat. I feel like there should be a title for that. I sometimes don't even get a gold reward because of all the ressing I do...

Yeah, that's the thing. Most specs on metabattle have a ranged variant for the second weapon set. OW events aren't so difficult that you can't kitten your build a bit to stay at range.

How do you enjoy playing melee in meta events? What I mean is how do you even know your contributing for the most part when you have 50 people standing at the same spot of the thing that needs to die feet and can’t tell if you attacking or not by looking at your character through the blob of people? Do you look at your action bars to see if attack chains are going off? Do you look for floating combat numbers? I  prefer playing melee in small groups but in large events I find this a problem so I mainly stick to classes that can range as well but I miss my warrior and want to know how others deal with it? Maybe I rely to much on watching my character for visuals but when I can’t see what I’m doing = Less fun.

    Thanks.

    Look for the numbers.

An entirely new class or an new way to play my favorite class? I go with the latter

I'm totally open to both. I only play 4 of the classes, but have been opened up to new classes based on their new elite. Its either a new way to play a few classes (considering I like the spec), or a bunch of new ways to play a single class.

Good point, I always forget that we can farm keys weekly on a new character.

Gives you something to use those tomes on, too. I've gotten to the point where I'm burning through the level 20 birthday boosts just to get them out of my bank. The only time I've ever used those thing for real is on classes I've already got. I like swapping classes, and I like using cultural armor, and I only have a single set of ascended gear for them. I'm working on the PvP legendary set right now, for this reason.

The only thing I regret right now is not having enough character slots to make up 10 characters because I'm too cheap to get them at the moment. I've got my characters planned out for each profession and the 10th character is gonna be a whichever profession scenario.

You could always make it a disposable slot for weekly key runs. I had that going until I needed another mule, lol.

I am the type of person who likes to have a bit everything, so I made one character of each profession and of every race. However, I cannot help but occasionally regret my choices.

It is not only the way certain characters look, but also how the new elite specs totally change how they play. For example, they just announced the bladesworn elite for warriors. If you are a charr or human that is fine. But...I have a norn warrior that I imagined like a hulking barbarian, similarly to the one in Diablo. For a half-naked brute, it just looks silly to hold a tiny pistol in your off-hand. It just doesn't work thematically.

I believe I finally understand the human female meta...its just that they fit almost everything and look good in everything, but this isn't the case for most other races.

Charr elementalist? Norn mesmer? Asura ranger? You can make them, but it doesn't quite fit. Seems like this game was designed with humans in mind as the centerpiece, the groundstone around which everything revolves. I might have deleted my old characters to reroll a human, but some of them have maxed crafting skills and I prefer not to do this all over again. Is there an option to transfer crafting skill to an alt in this game?

I apparently regretted it at one point (very depressed and inebriated), and I deleted everything in 2015. Went from 1 year behind, to 3 lol. I still don't know why, but I was so upset with myself, i stopped playing other than to log on daily for the rewards and LW episodes.

Living worlds are not much different to expansions. You get more maps (in season 3 and 4 at least) than an expac and more story, with just as many rewards, masteries etc. They just lack a big new feature. If expacs justify their cost, then so do living worlds which are just broken into small chunks. Content being paid for once isn’t really comparable to a sub service

I agree Anet aren’t always clear in their marketing, but the content itself justifies the price

Haven't they also been passing out LW episodes like skittles? Unfortunately for me, the only season I wasn't a part of, and earned for free (OP, just gotta log on while the episode is current to acquire it) was S1, and that's not coming back any time soon. I would also like to point out that just logging in every day nets a good amount of gold over the month. Laurels and coins are extremely lucrative. Simply playing the game will get you a bunch of stuff over time, be it through giveaways, converting gold, or spending $10 here and there.

I’m sure this has been brought up  before but where is the ceiling when it comes to class specializations? Don’t get me wrong I understand it keeps the game fresh for people who never take breaks and brings the ones back that do but when does it stop? Every expansion we just gonna get more and more until every class can use every weapon? That’s a lot to balance when other existing  specs and weapon skills could use some love without adding new for the sake of shiny.

    Thoughts?

I have an inkling that they will eventually redo the old trees when they run out of ideas. They will eventually have to start recycling weapons, or making new ones. Warrior is almost capped. If they redid one of the existing trees for each class to act differently while in the 3rd slot, and redo a weapon that wouldn't be used in that build normally (condi hammer rev), they could add new elites into the game, without altering theme of said tree too much.

That said, I hope they continue to add more elites to the game. Its quite impressive that they've done so much. Each elite is almost like a new class, as far as gameplay and feel goes. I love testing out new elites, and often find myself adding a new class to my regular rotation based on the new playstyle (not a ranged player, but I love my reaper).

    Tips for New Players

    1. If you can run out of a circle, don’t waste your dodge. You only have a limited number of dodges.

    2. You can use terrain to make combat easier. The vast majority of creatures can’t attack you through a wall. By ducking behind the wall, you can draw them into you, where they’re stacked together so you can AOE them down.

    3. Move, all the time. Moving instead of standing still while fighting will get you hit less. Learn to circle strafe if you can. It can help a lot.

    4. Don’t be worried about breaking combat, particularly if others are fighting a creature. If your heal skill is on recharge and it looks like you’re going to die, you can run back out of combat, since you heal faster out of combat.

    5. Don’t rez people if you’re going to die doing it. Very often the best way to rez someone is to kill the creature they’re attacking before they die. Going down yourself isn’t helping anyone.

    6. If you die at an event, and there’s a waypoint anywhere near (assuming the event isn’t just about to end) waypoint and run back. Otherwise you’re just scaling it up for other people who have to fight harder.

    7. If you’re at an event, and you need help, call it out in map chat (unless you’re a free to play player, because you can’t use map chat). If you have tag, even a mentor tag, feel free to pop it. If you build it, they will come. Also if you’re calling it out in map chat, try to link a waypoint or nearby point of interest. The more direction you can give, the more people will show.

    8. Learn your break bar skills. Some creatures have teal bars underneath their health bar. This is called a break bar (or more properly the defiance bar). This bar can be broken by CC (crowd control) abilities. Anything like knockback, knockdown, stun, daze, even cripple and blind can help. Learn to CC creatures with break bars. It’s really important in end game.

    9. Don’t forget to take food and utility even in the open world. The experience bonus will help you level faster and the food and utility can help you survive by either doing more damage, or giving you more health. You don’t have to use expensive food, there’s plenty of food floating around that’s dirty cheap.

    10. Generally speaking, killing faster is the best way to survive in this game. Coming from other games, you might be tempted to take a lot of extra toughness or vitality. If you have to, take as little as you need and try to ween yourself off of it. Because killing faster is always better than trying to survive longer and whittling stuff down. Every defense stat you take means you have to survive longer to get a kill, giving creatures more time to hit their big attacks, and other creatures you might have already killed time to respawn.

The only issue I see is 10. There are builds that lose very little by taking defensive stats (depending on the stat combo). I think I only lose 5-7% damage by taking trailblazer over viper on my condi renegade, but I get huge returns in tankiness. You are not incorrect in saying the best defense is offense in this game, but it would do new players some good to figure out their spec's sweet spot based on their needs.

Something else I would add would be finding a good build, with synergy. What helped me figure out the build system more than anything was to just find one on metabattle based on what i wanted (open world builds are very universal for new players), and start learning the talents/abilities as i used them. It's a lot to take in when you're first learning the specs, and you might not remember a lot of what works well together.

There is not enough cosmic manure to even remotely be on par with current WoW's story team.

Also, there hasn't been any transmedia narrative that's required to understand GW2's plot (except maybe Edge of Destiny, but you can understand there relations fairly well ingame without the book).

Lol, you have to read what I quoted. The way those fake expansions were laid out read just like the rehashed crap WoW has been pulling for years. It was a joke about an outrageous hypothetical.

Thank you so much Anet for the fairy wings!  I have been wanting some for ages!

While I go take some screenshots, does anyone have a few fairy themes they want to post?

They aren't my taste, but I love the effect when they move.

    Nah nah. They'll be called:

Guild Wars 2 - The Dragon Awakens  <--- which will basically see the same plot as vanilla Guild Wars 2

Guild Wars 2 - The Last Dragon <--- which will butcher the story of a beloved hero and be largely incomprehensible in tone

Guild Wars 2 - The Rise of Dragons <--- New, secret Dragon powers, with dead dragons returning in ghost form

Did they hire the WoW story team recently?

Dislikes : GS, pretty standard but I hope it'll be "magical" like hammer or mesmer's GS.

Mechanic on dodge or over dodge = troubles.

I mean, you can see they are attacking in melee range, and there were a few leaps toward your target. This is a melee weapon for sure.

+1 Musicians playing on romantic gondola rides in the Orrian moonlight.

This reminds me of a video from Viva La Dirt League, where these people are on a date on a secluded beach. She starts to wonder how he managed to get the beach with no one on it, then she sees a bunch of ships amassing off shore. As she starts to freak out, mortars start hitting the beach, the whole time, the guy is acting like nothing is happening.

I can see a romantic night cruise, serenading your love, while zombies and undead creations run along the shore chasing you, making horrible, demonic, undead sounds, lol. Then, you just like "Beautiful night. Wanna have a romantic slaughter fest, then head back to my home instance? Its fully stocked on nodes."

  18. Cello (a great, generous streamer) has a guide to help with things people might not have known about (like roll/jump). In there, he gives a few tips for getting better FPS, while still maintaining a good detail level. For anyone looking for a small boost.

Also, sorry if we aren't allowed to mention content creators. I haven't posted since 2018, lol.

Not going into the argument, but that last line..with GW2s code, it could very well take months to do. We know their code is a nightmare, and that is on them 100%.

Yeah, that could be. My whole point was to expand on what some people might mean when they say "real content," as I've seen this conversation in many games. I originally gave validation to both sides.

Not really how communication works over all, but okay.  I'm not angry or frustrated because you came in in the middle of an argument saying something that's essentially not really on topic (the topic being that there's a problem with fishing being niche).  I think I'm likely not the only one who took what you said differently than how you meant it.

Edit: It's not even a fact that fishing is niche.

You should reread what I initially said in my first post. You mentioned the "fake content" arguement, and I expanded on that by saying niche content is less popular than main content for an MMO. I also said it isn't fake content, and I'm happy for the people getting it. All I said was it seems like major patch content, and you have taken to prove me wrong somehow, when nothing I said was even remotely inflammatory. You mentioned "real content," and I simply expanded on what the poster could have meant (simply interpretation, since I can't read their mind), and you took that as attack enough to sit here proving me wrong, when all I did was offer an expansion to a different point of view, while also agreeing with you.

I'm also not sure how you can say you aren't mad, when in the same sentence you mention "coming into the middle of an arguement." You first response to me was throwing "to be fair" back in my face, as if I said it angrily (something else you assumed), and all of your responses since then have been aggressively negative towards me. Fishing is niche, but also very basic, and not something that should take months to program.

The entire thread is about the OP saying that fishing isn't exciting and it's a problem. If you post that it's niche, it can really only be in support of the OP unless you say it's not a problem. It's called context. This thread isn't about whether fishing is niche or not. It's about whether it's a problem that fishing in niche. And it's probably not going to be niche in this game. In this game raids are niche. In this game even PvP is niche.  I bet more people will fish that either raid or PvP and maybe even both combined.

If the OP of the thread made a topic about the issues with fishing being niche and you say what you said, any reasonable English speaker would interpret it the way I did. Shrugs.

Nah, I quite often come out somewhere in the middle, and all I was doing was pointing out facts. You assumed a bunch of stuff, I would say mostly because something is frustrating you enough to be aggressive, and assume negativity. The only post that matters when I post is the one I'm replying to.
