  1. Look on metabattle for a staff/staff build. I actually combine the staff/staff and axe/axe builds because I prefer to have a melee and ranged option. There is also an economy armor set mentioned there as well until you can get Vipers. ?
  2. Sword/sword and greatsword are good for core mesmer. Use your illusions and phantasms heavily. You can have 3 up at a time, and not only do they serve as a distraction, but you'll kill stuff faster, especially once you get your shatter skills. Enjoy, mesmer is a fun class!
  3. I play Condi Mirage and love it. Plenty of evasion and melts stuff fast. Surrounded by mobs? Mirage cloak and spit out axes. I use Viper gear and axe/axe and staff. Staff is nice for tagging in events and has extra dodges for when I need to get away. I've soloed all through core, LW2, HoT, LW3, PoF, LW4, and now IBS with very little trouble.
  4. I loved HoT, despite some frustrations with Tangled Depths. Auric Basin and Dragon's Stand are 2 of my favorite metas in the game (the other being Dragonfall). It really captured the feel of being lost in a dangerous jungle. Just watch out for those snipers!
  5. VIP runs DS at least once a week. I've also run through the meta just by checking LFG. Another guild tends to do late night meta runs weekly, all HoT maps. This is NA. Certainly not empty. Of course during a new release week, people will be on the new maps.
  6. Haven't played yet, but will log in to get it. I really don't like being spoon-fed the story, especially after playing catch up for a long time. I've moved back to LOTRO for now, but I will come back, maybe once the season (excuse me, Saga) is complete.
  7. It seems to help if you use any gathering boosts/ magic find you can. I've done this and been able to double harvest some nodes, which helps.
  8. Power minion Reaper. Minions protect and add to your armor, bounce in and out of shroud for more DPS and protection. I can solo every dungeon but HotW on it.
  9. Giganticus Lupicus requires a bit of knowledge, but everything else is pretty easily DPSed down. Don't be afraid to put up an LFG. I don't necessarily run dungeons much myself anymore, but often browse LFG to see if someone needs help.
  10. Should we be negative to a friend who is going through tough times and changes, who also has a lot of unresolved issues? Or are we the emotionally stronger friend and leader who remains a positive force with someone obviously experiencing emotional turmoil? We can be supportive, but point out said friend is being a shit and tell them to knock it off. The people I surround myself with appreciate that.
  11. It depends on whether you craft some of the items yourself or buy them. If you don't have charged quartz, start charging now. You need 22 and can only charge one a day. 12 for food and 10 for a heat lamp.
  12. Yes, love the Requiem set, especially for my asura. My Sylvari mirage wears the set from Dragonfall. Charr warrior wears the revenant set (the one Rytlock wears in HoT), my Sylvari elementalist wears the Twilight Arbor set, and my Norn reaper wears the Arah dungeon set. The only skin I've bought from the gem store was the Shimmerwing skyscale and the spooky mount set. And I converted gold to gems for those.
  13. There is no sub fee in this game. I also play LOTRO, and besides a VIP fee if you want all areas between expansions (7 expansions btw), the cash shop has a very ptw feel. Boost your legendary? $$. Level boosts, stat boosts, all sorts of gameplay effecting items. And cosmetics. I suppose if shiny is what makes things good to you, then maybe you 'need' store items. None of my characters have gem store outfits. I've gotten nice outfits from dungeons, festivals, and in game collections. Legendaries are all earned in game as well. I much prefer GW2 business model.
  14. Oof, you want slow, go play a lore master on LOTRO. Love the game, and the class, but omg. Inductions for most skills, and can't move during casting or it interrupts. No dodging, just walk out of AOE circles. GW2 is definitely not slow.
  15. Trying to remember, is that the very first one? If so, you need to be in Black Citadel.
  16. I just ground out gift of battle in wvw. I could have bought that? Ugh Oh. Sorry. The one other item that you have to grind out. 95% of the weapon can be bought, as compared to Gen1 Legendaries where 100% of the weapon can be. But Mah prestigeeeee Ha! Whew I thought I had researched it but could have mixed up. I am not the biggest fan of WVW but I do like that the developers get me to play WVW if I want the leggy. I realize I like it more than I thought I would. It used to be buyable, i miss those days. Out of all the threads ive seen alot of WVW players get upset when PVE only players go to wvw, but if anyone mentions making the GOB buyable again(the main reason PVE players go to WVW) people freak out to because how else will those PVE players find out if they like wvw. -snort-They are on the trading post. I had enough, but they are there.
  17. The mounts on the gem store are skins only, to change the default look. Acquiring the mounts themselves are through playing the Path of Fire story. Raptor is in the first chapter, so easy to get. Springer is next, then Skimmer. Jackal isn't a story quest, but obtainable in The Desolation. Griffon is only available after you complete POF. That one is pricey - 250g. Skyscale quest starts after you complete the final Living World Season 4 chapter, War Eternal. That one is cheaper, depending on what you make yourself or buy, but it is an extensive collection. Worth it though, imo.
  18. That's where my thinking on these topics always goes. It reminds me of when the 7th birthday rock 'chair' was released and a bunch of the first people to get it (people who had created their characters on the first day of headstart) were all lined up in LA posing with them. Someone came along, took one look at the line-up and said "hardly any infusions, disappointing". It's a pretty safe bet the people there all had plenty of time to make their characters look however they wanted and it was true, hardly any of them were using infusions, or many shiny skins. They weren't even all using legendary weapons (or gem store/black lion weapons). Tastes vary and you could never get a consensus on which are the best skins or how to 'win' at fasion wars, so even if they wanted to there's no way Anet could make sure all the best skins are in the gem store. I was really looking forward to previewing the new Mythic Weapons after hearing all the talk about them, but when I finally got to see them in-game for myself I was disappointed. They're certainly shiny, and could go with some of my characters more over-the-top looks, but I don't think they're better than stuff I've already got and even if I could buy them directly for 500 gems or so I'm not sure I would. (Although I recognise that a lot of people do really like them. This is actually the third weapon set to be released this way, and the fact that so many people are only just noticing there are unique weapon skins only available in bundles and acting like this is something Anet has never done before goes to show much much more attention this version is getting,) But for what it's worth I'm one of the people who likes to look at other people's characters, I have a whole folder of screenshots of characters I think look really cool, and it's never because of 1 skin, or even because they have lots of flashy/expensive skins. It's the combinations which interest me. When someone has put together a look with a clear theme, or really good use of colour or something novel I've not seen before that impresses me. I don't even think about what the skins are or where they got them, unless I'm trying to figure out how they did it. The character I've gotten the most whispered comments on is a Norn necromancer with a pretty simple outfit. Arah armor set, dyed black and gold with a bit of white on the pearls. The shoulders are gold and give her a certain fallen angel look. Head piece is one of the Norn cultural bands. The only 'flashy' thing is her Mad Realm greatsword, which I got from saving ticket scraps.
  19. The issue i see, is thats not what happens. ive done a decent number of raids, and i dont even do the boneskinner SM. most of the casual population -stops- if they cant win a fight by just pressing 1, and if ANET wants players to make the bridge from SM's to raids i see it failing before to long, none of my friends who play who do raids do SMS either so im left to PUG, and thats just...no. Well, I don't just 11111 anything, but still consider myself pretty casual. Lucky if I can play 3 days a week, rheumatoid arthritis developing in both hands, lupus. I can dodge though, some days better than others. Maybe because I have raided in other games in the past I am enjoying the challenge and hopeful that I can raid again. Used to raid quite a bit in LOTRO (minstrel -healer and lore master - cc) before those became pure DPS fests. Probably showing my age there...
  20. I have had it happen on roller beetle mid race too, if dismounted. Grothmar Valley in particular. Ended up under the map at one point. Very frustrating.
  21. Casual player here. Did boneskinner strike for first time this week. Was it hard? Sure. Was it fun? Yes! Been doing strikes and enjoying them on my healbrand, actually considering getting into some raids, despite my arthritis. Used to raid a lot in LOTRO and I do miss it.
  22. Hybrid builds are usually a bad idea, better to go one or the other, otherwise you're weaker from the stat division. If you have the expansions, mirage is a strong Condi profession. I use Viper stats for my Mirage. Then you can go power on your ranger. Core ranger or soulbeast are both strong in open world. Or you can go for a Condi trapper ranger and power build in chronomancer, but chrono was needed pretty hard recently.
  23. This bug has happened to my mounts fairly often and I never use the default skins. Odd. It happens to me a lot on default. But I have yet to have it happen on store skins.
  24. I get the same on jackal. It has the 3rd endurance bar section, so I get round the corner and... nothing there. Yay.
  25. It happens to me all the time in congested areas (Wintersday). It's why you'll see me on the Spooky mounts even way past Mad King festival. If I want to use a mount, I'm best using a skin. It does look suspicious, ANet. Fix it, please?
