  1. Given my experiences with my nieces, they know those words already. And with respect to the fantasy setting, GW's world is already not pure Tolkien fantasy. You've got steampunk, airships, a slightly cyberpunk Cantha, and so on. I'd argue Tyria's "middle ages" was more the GW1 timeline.
  2. I haven't, personally, experienced people asking for KP or LI, but I wonder if this is a result of the influx of players from other MMO's that do have such things? (Like in WoW, it's not uncommon for a raid group to want to see your achievements.) I had someone yell at me for stealing a gathering node the other day in one of the Cantha zones, which hasn't been a thing you could do in WoW for a few years, and has never been an issue in GW2. Old habits die hard, I guess.
  3. Was just going to suggest this. I'm game. Did they nerf the drop rates there? There hasn't been a leather farm in awhile that I've seen.
  4. I'm using wine-staging (7.3) and the GW2 windows launcher. No problems on my end. Last update to what? GW2, your OS, or?
  5. Oh hey, I haven't noticed the mount changing to red bug since the dx11 changes recently. (DXVK, wine-staging 7.3, in the interest of disclosure.) Seems a lot smoother in open world content, although it can get a bit laggy in spots, still. (Some of this is vulkan shader caching on my end.)
  6. OK, opinions after a weekend of trying. (4 tries, failed all 4 times, one of which we just farmed it for xp and stuff.) 1.) The rewards need upping, because it just doesn't compare to other open world events. (Like Istan is a loot piΓ±ata for about the same amount of work as Battle for Jade Sea.) 2.) You really do need to participate in all two hours of it, from preparation to the final battle. This is a problem because people work, have lives, and so on. 3.) The numbers just weren't there, even during an evening on Eastern time on a weekend. It shouldn't be doable with 5 people, but if there's 20-25, it shouldn't fail, either. (See also time investment vs. reward.) 4.) I don't know that comparing this to a raid is accurate, because you immediately get another try on an encounter in a raid situation, once everyone has regrouped. (Granted, most of my raiding experience is in WoW progression raiding.) Jade Sea, you have to wait another two hours, so people really don't have time to learn from mistakes. It's not fresh in one's fingers, like it would be in raiding. 5.) I think there should be a tuned version for open world, and if people want a harder version, it should be a strike mission. (It would be a brilliant strike mission as is.) It's not a bad event chain! It's just...not tuned for open world or not having a full map of people. (Like you don't need 50 people to do Istan, if everyone doesn't stand in fire, and so on.)
  7. Honestly I'd rather have more complicated maps than the relatively flat maps you get in WoW. Once they unlock the pathfinder achievement, you realize just how little content there really is in WoW maps. Two weeks in with EoD, I'm done with the story (except the Battle for the Jade Sea, but that's another thread...), but there's still so much more to do and explore. I've got 100% map completion in the new zones, but I'm still discovering interesting things. You just don't get that with a WoW map. Mounts enhance the zones in GW2. In WoW, they just show how devoid of content they really are. I've got pathfinder achievements in WoW for all current expansions, including Shadowlands. Even in GW1, maps are a lot more complex and interesting than the average expansion map in WoW.
  8. The level design for Arena Net is for mounts. Like you can tell that a lot of places were designed for the skyscale and springer in mind. I don't get the same sense of design from WoW with anything after BC or WotLK, to be honest. If you have to gate content behind taking things away from players, it's poor level design.
  9. Not sure if ArenaNet is still reading this thread... I tried it twice last night, and readiness going into it was low both times. (There's only so much you can do as one player.) Both times failed before Soo-Won was engaged. I think it's a neat encounter, and was fun while I was doing it, but it needs tuning. People who work don't have two hours to dedicate to it, and there are many reasons people could be in a zone, from story, gathering, and map completion. But I think things need to be tuned down for a world event. There are so many ways to fail it, and it seems like not many ways to succeed in it. It feels like it's being run by a GM in a ttrpg who's hell-bent on seeing players die, and we keep rolling natural 1's.
  10. Do read the quest text. There's a lot of good writing in the game. (I'd say the personal story and OG content isn't as good as the living world and last parts, though.) I still play WoW from time to time, and it strikes me how much ArenaNet can do with little. As to influences, it's very much a product of GW1. That game's a bit tricky to get into if you don't like micromanaging other heroes. (I really loved that aspect of the game, however.) You don't need to play GW1 to enjoy GW2, though, but it's weird seeing areas in GW2 after seeing them in GW1. It adds a sense of deja vu, definitely.
  11. I really liked Path of Fire, but Elona and Cantha were also my favorite parts of GW1. I do wish there were a story mode for the raids, though. (I burnt out on raiding from WoW, but I want to hit the story bits.)
  12. Huh, no crashes for me. It's been rock-solid. (Granted, I'm using WINE with dxvk to translate dx11.)
  13. Nope...mount's 3rd dye slot is still turning red when I zone.
  14. So far so good. The plants in the branded area above Yahtendi Village in Jahai look OK. I haven't noticed my skyscale turning red, either. ETA: the Windy Cave minidungeon is looking less psychedelic, too. Yes, I didn't eat the mushrooms in there. πŸ˜‰
  15. I had an issue where my skyscale was red. changing zones fixed it, but it was strange for a bit. No, it didn't go faster as red. πŸ™‚
  16. What version of dxvk and drivers are you using? I"m on 1.9.2 dxvk and 470.74. (Also XFCE4, Slackware-current, Nvidia gtx 1050ti) I'm on wine-staging 6.15 (with PE support.)
  17. Smooth as silk, what little I could try. I did the Svanir Shaman, then a few events in Jahai. My FPS didn't drop below 30 the whole time. Lighting is a bit odd, but I thought I read that they didn't have gamma in yet.
  18. Any rumors how the dx11 test is going to go tomorrow? On the one hand, dx11 works really well with dxvk. On the other...God only knows if there's some unimplemented function that will break things.
  19. And fixed! (Was just announced on twitter, and I tried it out in game.)
  20. Or they're making sure that stacks are really clearing on mounting/dismounting before re-enabling it? I dunno. It sounds like the sort of thing that's plausible.
  21. That part of the patch made me wonder. Like maybe our carapace stacks weren't dropping off?
  22. And not fixed today. 😞 Like, can we have an update about it? Even if it's "we're working on it?" Is there testing help needed? Sign me up. Seriously! I'll help test whatever.
  23. It's probably something that isn't trivial to fix, or they'd have given an update by now. (Or they're waiting for the next patch, because it's not something they can just hotfix.) But, yeah, kinda annoying. 😞
