  1. The topic of housing again. I'm not really sure how I feel about housing... while I think it could be great if it were designed in the manner I envision, even if it were, I'm guessing the number of gemstones to outfit to taste would be prohibitively expensive... But, I have three points... 1. The continued reference to perceived disappointments in other areas as an argument against... i.e. "fishing didn't satisfy the masses, so housing won't either"??? That attitude makes no sense to me, and I don't understand that mindset of not trying to push forward and improve... 2. The notion that somehow Guild Halls and Home Instances are comparable substitutes for Housing... Of course, as I mentioned from the top, it comes down to how housing would be implemented. But how much time does 95% of the user population spend in the design or implementation of either of those existing instances? Presumably housing would be an individual effort... 3. Lastly, what I love about GW2 is the diversity of activities and playstyle... Yes, there will always be varying opinion on how each and every aspect could be improved, but for those who would enjoy building up and outfitting their house (at whatever crazy collection or gemstone value is implemented), fantastic... it's a new addition to the game. If housing is not for you, like fishing, pvp, wvw, crafting legendaries, etc., etc., etc... then so be it... Do whatever you do to enjoy the game... While I don't know whether I would invest in housing myself, I don't see the harm and welcome the additional diversity...
  2. Not sure how many "quite a few" represents, but the fact that you are considering selling suggests that you aren't interested in Legendary gear... I have been there, and then subsequently regretted selling prematurely, not anticipating the use for that gear and then having to re-amass them slowly (or expensively through TP). Market fluctuates over time with everything... If you enjoy that speculation and that is how you like to make gold, that's great... But I'm always cautious at selling the stuff that is generally slower to acquire, simply because you don't know the future... how your perspective might change or the game itself... Ultimately there are many ways to profitably make gold... As such, my opinion echoes DeanBB, however if you're already committed to selling, I also agree with Danikat and her perspective on the uncertainty in speculation.
  3. You've probably got this by now, but I also had difficulty... my eventual workaround was to 'hunt' the Branded Fish near the Southern waypoint... they respawn quickly and you just jump from one to another and pick them off from on top of the ice... I'll admit, it leaves you feeling kinda icky to go about it like that, but if you're struggling, it's way to get it done quickly...
  4. Assuming a non-exploratory mentality with minimal event/node participation (though I think it makes sense to be an opportunist in those regards, and take advantage of decently profitable situations when you stumble upon them) and having mounts available... I agree with 30m average per map; rounding up to somewhere in the 15-20h for completion...
  5. I clicked the link for you: "The key to obtaining this achievement is for only 3 to 5 players to participate in the event. Event scaling rapidly makes the fake Joko's and clone Joko's defiance bars much harder to break while causing more Small Jokos to spawn and giving them more health. Players have to keep alert and watch for when the two larger Joko?s are giving speeches and if there are any Small Jokos going around. It is possible for very large groups to succeed and obtain this achievement, but the extreme amount of control effects needed to do so makes this impractical and rare."
  6. You mention two specific use-case... If you intend to frequently organize and run metas, then being able to assemble squads, sub-groups, etc., for this coordination is very useful. For simply luring/calling people out to your location to help with basic events like Champs, Bounties, JPs, etc., then using the Mentor (aka Apple) tag is sufficient for that purpose, and without the 300g expense. Being able to change colors for the Commander to do the same thing is convenient for when maps have multiple mentors active, but that's a pretty hefty price for that convenience... Ultimately spending the gold on the tag comes down to the value add it will provide you for your intended use... and relative to your gold and what you might be giving up to to get in it's place.
  7. No doubt, Astralaria is a huge endeavor... but while not all events are on a scheduled timer, not sure they are 'random'... most follow some kind of progression; they either reset periodically or occur within a chain of events... Use the wiki to help map it all out to plan; in most cases you'll find that it can at least relieve some of the un-predictableness that you are experiencing... Hang in there and best of luck!
  8. Ok, I understand. You're not wrong; there were many design choices to be made and overall some it seems to be overly complicated. That said, I still enjoy fishing. Though you're right about the casual open water... at this point it's only done when I notice that they're the only fish left to complete a map... seems like a missed opportunity, design-wise. Relaxing and chill doesn't have to predictable and underwhelming...
  9. I don't get this... if you're not concerned about the reward, you can do this already? You don't need to use the clunky skiff... Agreed. The problem is that in absence of a dedicated fisherman, you have to 'load up' to go fishing... it's definitely a time-consuming inconvenience...
  10. ...and I did have the option to sell, although I chose to bind this one. Not sure if the changes you describe are on the way. I had the precursor in my bank for months.
  11. So... just to confirm that the prescribed instructions on completing the "Return to Steel and Fire - Back to the Past" achievement is still valid... You need to run the Tower of Nightmares story from LS1, through "The Nightmare Incarnate". Not intuitive at all, given all the rest of the achievements take place though Eye of the North and the Forging Steel/Darkrime Delves instances... Anyway... my own experience... lucked out to have a dozen players within a Public Instance (not sure how this scales for people, but... buff up before you start!)…. We did not try to complete all the events as the group was blitzing for the top... That said, note that once you have reached the top, opening the Tri-Key chest has no bearing on the achievement... at that point, you need to continue to ascend up the ramp to the "Nightmare Incarnate" portion of the story, and upon killing the boss "Ensolyss" at the end, you will be then credited with the "Back to the Past" achievement... maybe there are other ways, but that's what worked for me... I was confused when I got to the platform with the Tri-Key chest and wasn't awarded, so wanted to let others know... there is still that other step to go.... Best of luck!
  12. While the economy varies, I'm still finding that 20g/hr is a general minimal acceptable standard that can be achieved across several different metas, farms and activities... In other words, if you get less over that time period... you could have done better... As previously mentioned, the notion of 'gold per day' is a bit too abstract without knowing the time investment within that day... You can search this forum and online for farming guilds as to the current yield per hour... Myself, I like Drizzlewood for meta.. and I'll plug Fishing as a change-of-pace that is still viable, if you are maxed for, that activity and can tolerate it.... As mentioned, Dragonfall is great, if you can find a dedicated and efficient map, and assuming you are chasing down the champs at the end... otherwise the pre-events in completing the preparatory tiers can drag down the optimization... Ultimately accumulating gold quickly (without gems or trading post) is really about mapping out the various events and jumping around to maximize those that are profitable (at least 20g/hr)... If you have a few hours to invest each day, it's unlikely that a single activity is going to maximize yield... you'll need to jump around.
  13. Not sure how I feel about this for you... I mean, I guess you played briefly, and then left... for a decade... before returning? Is it really fair that you accumulate the rewards for someone who has actually played for the decade? That said, I recognize that had you not deleted the account, I guess you would have triggered all the same rewards... Anyway, if it makes you feel any better, birthday rewards are not exactly overwhelming... you've missed out on some karma, selectable dyes, boosters and skins.... other than a few Black Lion Statuettes, really nothing that you could convert into gold or set you back... So while the "debate" is interesting regarding loyalty, it's not really material to your gameplay... if you're having a blast ten years later, accept the win and enjoy the game for the incredible evolution it has gone through over the past ten years... and... Welcome Back! 🙂
  14. Thanks.. that's another Gemstone item? I suppose it's natural that convenience would have a price... PS. Gratz on 24k... that's a lot of input and help that you've provided... thank you. 🙂
  15. .... this is why in spite of all of the naysayers for housing, assuming it would accommodate, would love to have one point of access that provided everything in close proximity... Currently Arborstone is my 'convenience', (without the nodes, of course)... is there something better? It's not Guild Hall or Home Instance... would Eye of the North be better, if I chose to unlock all the vendors? Haven't looked into Gem Stones.. is there an option that's better? I did check out the Mistlock Sanctuary per @Linken.6345... is that the optimal way to go for convenience?
  16. The Jade Bot Recycler helps to keep the accumulation of Junk to a minimum in the future. More of QoL as I believe that you give up profit in the long run, but can be useful, particularly if you're inventory is filling up fast and you don't want to pause to empty... https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Jade_Bot#Equipment As mentioned, GW2Efficiency is really fantastic, especially if you've got stuff scattered across mat storage, bank, vault and multiple toons... very easy to become disorganized, and it helps to locate and catalog everything, including value.
  17. While the gear in playing competitive endgame instanced-content will eventually make a difference, having Ascended over readily-available and comparatively cheap Exotic gear will not compensate for inexperience or non-optimized builds... there are many online resources to help with that; within these forums and elsewhere, but in the meanwhile I would focus on familiarizing yourself with the game to the point where the Ascended gear will be appreciative, particularly since you opted to boost yourself to endgame level and presumably as a "very new" player have room for improvement... Not trying to be dismissive here... getting Ascended gear is a great objective, but just don't want you to get your expectations too high... without the experience, the impact will be minimal and the main point I'm trying to make... You can enjoy all but the most competitive game modes for endgame content with great success without Ascended gear! Best of luck
  18. A caution that while you may not care about potentially disappointing others, regular players will come to recognize, and avoid, your tag... the downside is you may not get the turnout you hope for, should you ever actually want people to join you... Probably best to save it for when you want to attract people... But as other says, it's up to you...
  19. Somewhere in the forums you will find merged-mega threads on this topic... Though I did enjoy reading your take on it! While there are many aspects that could be improved, the overall feeling seems to be that the activity doesn't generate enough interest to warrant development time on these improvements... Hope I'm wrong, but I'd put more money on catching the Taimen (my personal fish-nemesis 🙂 ) That said, Randulf.7614 summarizes my feeling very well, and I'll add that once you've managed to cope with the inconveniences and optimize the activity, fishing does provide a viable alternative source of revenue with the price of Ambergris has been pretty stable of late... The activity is not for everyone, but it does provide those who do a nice change of pace and some variety...
  20. While I enjoy new pet options, unless they create something that works thematically with the new expansion, I am perfectly fine to do without anymore... We (writing from my perspective as a longtime Ranger) have lots of options in this area... I would prefer they spend any time on Pets by tweaking the mechanics and improve behavior, as has been raised in other threads.
  21. I have done a fair amount of weapon-switching as I work through achievements, and fail to see the benefits... Game design has presumably decided that more often than not, users want to strip their weapons of runes, infusion and stats so they can be reset; I guess in those cases it saves a couple of clicks... But it costs me those clicks to revert to something that I didn't want changed (and at the expense of inventory slots). I would have preferred a personal system setting as an option to decide on how to manage that behavior, or else at least a prompt on unequip to ask if you want your gear stripped... That would be one-click for everyone; seems like a reasonable compromise...
  22. I am not entirely sure if you are a veteran speed runner that is discouraging newbies or a newbie that is tolerant and wants to explore (I think the latter...) ... Regardless, if you articulate your requirements in LFG, there shouldn't be any disappointments or need for anyone to quit... As owner of the group, it's up to you to clearly set the parameters for joining... The likelihood of anyone associating a forum post with your LFG posting is pretty close to zero....
  23. To echo the others, there really is no right or wrong here, or a question of "should"... What the Personal Story gives you, is a focal point and some guided direction, if you are feeling overwhelmed. It will provide you a nice overview of the core game and Tyrian maps. There are added rewards for doing some of those map completion elements... Hearts unlock vendors. Waypoints provide quick and convenient accessibility. Map completion within each zone provides bonus gear and materials... So if you want to deviate from your story to explore some of these elements, that's great... But nothing really needs to be done, nor in any order... No need to frustrate yourself trying to reach a vista or complete a heart that is not enjoyable... Do what is fun and if you start to lose focus, establish some objectives that align with your interests and playstyle.
