Spirit shard material conversions are not in a good spot

Recommended Posts

I feel like spirit shard material conversions need to be rebalanced. Generally speaking, only T5 to T6 promotion can be worthwhile. For most other tiers, it's more economical for the player to sell the lower tier material and buy the higher tier material on the TP.

To give you an extreme example, you can promote 250x wool scrap (1s 94c) to ~87x cotton scrap (44c). Nobody in their right mind would ever waste a spirit shard on this trade. You'd be better off selling 250x wool scrap on the TP, purchasing 936x cotton scrap with the proceeds and keeping the spirit shard.

The recipes should be rebalanced to give you a fairer trade. Decrease the number of required items or increase the average number of output items, I don't care.

The recipes are the balancing tool but work only in one direction, up tier.  They are fine for this.

IF they want to balance the mat prices both ways they would need to add a down grade recipe. But im not sure they want that. Because the cheapest tier would dictate the price.

I think the point is to keep lower tier mats valuable to some extent without constantly adjusting sinks. And this is what these recipes achieve. If a mat price gets low enough its profitable to upgrade it. This way tier6 dictate the price and its much easier to balance.

These recipes are not intended to be profitable all the time. Only when there is imbalance on the market between tiers.

A quick look at https://gw2efficiency.com/currencies/spirit-shards shows this is wrong.

Well sure nobody purposely does losing business. Not sure what point you are trying to make. If someone was going to do that sort of conversion you would expect them to only do the profitable ones. That can range from someone modest like ~1s/shard or over 1g/shard.

To tag into this, I find it hard to believe that someone who went through the trouble of using sprit shards to covert mats, then they would also look as to where it’s profitable or too costly.

And if they didn’t…,  Honestly, that’s on them.

Conversions are in an awful spot, but rebalancing them is way outside the scope and ability of the current dev team.

Considering the devs can't even handle playing the classes for  the purpose of balancing, tackling the economy is a whole 'nother can of worms.
