DarcShriek.5829
For a group that's dedicated to keeping Tyria safe, they sure suck at their job. Where were they when the gods had their little spat, or whenever the elder dragons emerged? Edited June 27, 2023 by DarcShriek.5829 2 8
Danikat.8537
I assume we'll find out. But at a guess at least part of the answer will be they're very specialist and/or were busy with some other threat (likely whatever the big bad of the new expansion is) and couldn't or wouldn't deal with other things as well. Although I assume something goes wrong with that too for us to hear about it and get involved. If everything was fine and continuing as normal it would be a pretty dull story.

Personally I am going to roll - unless proven otherwise, is that they were set on external threats not internal ones.
Ashen.2907
They prefer to influence matters indirectly and so they worked behind the scenes in obscure and subtle ways to encourage an individual, one who would one day be called "The Commander", to become involved in all manner of world threatening situations. So too did they manipulate other beings, seen via eldritch scrying into possible futures, into taking part, accompanying and assisting their chosen one. The problem with that is that Tyria didn't suffer external threats, because none would dare come thanks to the dragon presence. 3
blp.3489
Since the new threat is coming out of the mists it's possible they were busy in the mists and/or their powers are only effective on mists creatures not dragons? It seems unlikely that the new astral ward weapon is going to be general purpose, it is likely specific to the mist demon thingies. Quote Now relieved from their long isolation, the Wizards are hungry for knowledge of the world they’ve dedicated themselves to protecting and are willing to share some of their bounty with you…in exchange for a favor or two. Saying they are relieved from their long isolation seems to imply that their isolation was not entirely voluntary.
