I never understood it. Coming from a TF2 spy main, thief was always pretty tame in comparison. Imagine half a team getting wiped in seconds because they were all grouped in front of you.

Which is total kitten because Spy can't just extract themselves from a bad spot by teleporting across the map in 1 second flat. The reason people hate Thief is the untouchable aspect their Stealth and Mobility grant them, not because they're gods of destruction. (well they used to but that's long, long ago)

Any player worth their salt can swat off a sneaky Thief like a mosquito, but doesn't make it any more enjoyable. It's not hard, just very unfun.

Unfun for whom?

Forced fumbling of target management isn't fun for anyone. I think most people can put up with a Stealth approach for an opening skill or sequence or for masking direction during travel, but when a lot of skills behave differently with or without a target and since facing and cones of effect play a large part in combat, it's going to feel a little like dealing with game glitches if they can't keep their cool.

Still though, most of the indicators of what someone in stealth is plotting is normally pretty clear but ignored.

@SweetPotato.7456 Defense Spellbreaker with megabane tether can shut down pretty much all thief's defenses besides evasion.

Lb/gs dragonhunter with dragon maw and reveal trap is also a natural couter.

Holosmith with lock-on

Core necromancer since their shroud 4 reveals irrespective of targeting.
