(Spoilers) Effect of Episode 6 on Revenants?

Some guild RP has raised the question, if Revs are Mist-powered, what's going on with them now that Kralk has catastrophically wrecked the Mists? I don't know if that was discussed in the big thread but I think it's meaty enough to explore on its own.

Kralkatorrik wrecked the afterlives and the things that existed directly in the Mists. But the Mists is still there in its protomatter form. Revenants merely channeled The Mists to create echoes.

So long as the Mists exists, the revenants should be able to use their power. Of course, if the Mists didn't exist, neither would anything else.

We don't fully know the extent of the damage yet.

We do know that some areas of the mists are severely damaged.Spirits of the dead fought Kralkatorrik both in and out of the mists and we don't know how many of them have been consumed and destroyed either.

What we do know is that Kralkatorrik destroyed 3 large sections of 3 different god realms and fragments of those islands are now physically on Tyria. If they are still connected to their god realms that could prove a significant problem if they act like anchors to Tyria.. minions of Dhuum and Menzies could exploit it and flood into Tyria causing all sorts of problems in the Scavengers causeway and spreading into Orr, the Crystal Desert and Elona over time and potentially further as time passes.

I expect that the fallout from Kralkatorriks feeding frenzy in the mists is likely going to be the focus of Living world season 5 and one of the developers on a recent livestream did state that there will be consequences for all the damage done in the mists but said little more than that.

With Dhuum more or less dealt with in a raid I'd have to think it more likely that if the Mists fallout is the focus for the next living world season then Menzies maybe the next antagonist we'll have to deal with. We'll see though, Season 5 could go in a totally different direction and finally set us up for Cantha :) which would make some sense at this point because Cantha is home to Ritualists which despite being one of the oldest professions in Tyria they also have a deeper connection to the mists and the spirit realm than Revenants do.If anyone in the living world is going to feel the impact of all the destroyed spirits and damage done to the mists thanks to Kralkatorriks rampage it'll be Cantha's Ritualist population. But we're just going to have to wait and see what happens next.. either way i'm excited for season 5.

To expand on this, the power of revenants comes from echoes of significant figures within the Mists. As long as those echoes remain, revenants are likely to be fine whatever happens to the rest of the Mists, as long as their specific power sources remain intact.

If Glint's spirit had been consumed, though, heralds might be in trouble (it's not clear whether they're drawing from Glint's spirit directly or whether there's a separate echo that they're drawing from).

Certainly, the presence of an echo isn't necessarily linked to the original legendary character's spirit, but I'm not sure that they've ruled out that a spirit could be the focus of an echo, or that the continued presence of the original spirit in the Mists could augment an echo.
