Mount Sharing?

I was just thinking how mount sharing would be an amazing idea and started wondering if Anet has the engine to do it. We see it in other mmos even in free to play ones.
It would also be beneficial for anet.
Imagine going to Metrica Province and taking a random free to play asura on a griffon ride, it would insentivise that said asura to go and buy PoF to fly as well.

The way it has been described it would not work as designed ... basically you are changing your character's model. It would be nice in multiple situations though, like when you are mentoring newbies.

New to the game? Feel free to give a yell if you need PVE help.

That sounds like the words of the devil in the eyes of Arenanet.
Just need to have a friend with the expansion (or be in a guild and be around at leaset one of them every so often) and you get free access to the mounts without paying a dime.

I disagree with those above, I think it's a great idea if it's possible.

A freaking chair. Woah. I personally can't wait to buy a gem store CHAIR, so all my characters can SIT around in Tyria while other players see me, SITTING there, looking like a [email protected] ...

  • Not like portals are not a thing. No expac means no elite specs, no new maps, no story. What are mounts really for if not for the new map. No person is gonna take you in a map completion just cuz u want to do it on a mount.

  • I don't think carrying another person on your mount would be a bad thing. They could introduce a two person mount like most MMOs have where if you are in party with that person. They could get on your mount. I helped a lot of friends in FF14 that way.

If Life gives you lemons, put the lemons in a sack and beat up Life for giving you lemons in the first place.

So go play those games that have shared mounts. Otherwise leave GW2 as it is

(NOBL) rocking GW's since 2005, still rocking Sorrow's Furnace :P

Set up npc that rent mounts in maps like the ones in PoF before you get your own mount.

This would do wonders for roleplaying, showing newbies around and in-game friendships. I would absolutely love to take a friend on the backseat of my griffon for some casual fun and tourism.

Interesting, and if it wasn’t exploitable like people mentioned, I’d enjoy being able to share mount space with friends. Mainly as it would make some exploring fun, though I’d suggest limiting which mounts can be used.

A springer with two people would look silly, and the roller beetle you’d need like a motorcycle attachment. But raptor, griffin and jackal are good candidates.

It would be great to be able to cart an afk friend with you to the next spot but....if they remained afk would they still get credit for completing the event? Ie if you dismounted once at a world boss and they were on a ranger...I could see this being abused.

I'd totally abuse it with my alt accounts. Get map completion for a second character with minimal additional effort. Get event/world boss credit easier.

I can't see Anet allowing this.

The point being as this game is not like other MMO's, Some people just can't grasp that and want to make this game like every other one...

Edit: And why create another thread with a different title when there are like 10 other ones asking for the same thing?

Fàther - Create a mount then kill it until it's more useless than PvE. "Smart"

I've always liked this idea, but there are a lot of loopholes that can cause people to exploit this concept and it would require a lot of effort to halt those things from happening. I don't know if Anet would put in the effort/funds to avoid that as the fact that they don't really benefit much from having mount sharing, if anything, it's actually a disadvantage to them.

Something to ponder though, potentially... a follow feature? Anyone have some feedback on that?

People was saying that about mounts until anet released them and blew everyone away ;p

If I recall correctly mounts are described as them attaching your player character to another entity through a "joint" lets call it. They did show of a cool test footage of one of the devs controlling a hot wyvern by doing this. Going from this its not unreasonable to assume that a multi-person mount is quite doable. I imagin its somthing like the player becomes the "parent" for the mount when they spawn it. So a second player would be a "child" entity to the person controlling the mount allowing for them to tag along for the ride ;p

It'd probably have to be a new mount if they do this. Two charr riding a raptor would not be fun for the raptor.
