Raising toxicity

The new international linking has brought me the worst WvW experience I have ever had. The toxicity has seemingly increased by 500% (that's my personal feeling, not a real number).

People not joining our squad, because the Cmdr wasn't prepared to command in English, but running alongside us were constantly trash-talking our wipes and what not. Trolls started pretending they belonged to a different nation and posted kitten comments in team chat.

Thank you for an awful experience tonight. I might reconsider playing WvW more often. (One can only hope things will calm down after a while, but there is no guarantee.)

Depends on what server you are and what the link is, and why should the commander not decide what language he is running HIS squad with.

I am on 2 different servers with 2 accounts, I have seen no increased toxic behaviour so far. But perhaps you got my previous link :D

  • It's pretty relaxed on Elona atm, coming along with Fort Ranik quite well I'd say.

Meta comes in all kinds of forms ... not just performance. It's unfortunate that the people that are slamming you are the same people that will be starving for WvW when all the people they insulted leave. It's the same in PVE ... all the meta pushers are making themselves extinct by insisting on certain standards where none are needed.

If you think balancing is only driven by performance and justified by comparisons to other classes then prepare to be educated:

Yeah this is totally unlike other link resets where servers that dont like each other got linked together. We've never seen rants in team or commanders that are on different discords which people refuse to join.

  • If they give this change time, they are going to lose a big portion of the playerbase

  • neven.3785neven.3785 Member ✭✭✭

Your ability to block people has not been removed, use it.

In the NA this behaviour is normal. If they break ToS, go for it, report them, its there for that reason, just keep in mind that the issue will never be fixed to your liking.

and here I was worried that ER/FR would be a posterchild for failure...

but tbh, the GH-Dzag link has been quite nice so far. Unexpected but welcome.

MM..... trash pugs that demand to be treated like royalty are indeed a problem-- but they'll find themselves without any squads to follow.

Report... block.... don't make a thread about it.

Initial refusal to adapt doesn't mean it will be bad on the long run. It's to be expected that many didn't get the memo or straight up refuse to.

    Smugly chuckling forever.
My sentence doesn't make sense? Well, I probably forgot to write half of it before posting.

I mean toxicity has always existed, will always exist and honestly is apart of all online communities. Perhaps people need to grow a thicker skin and stop being so sensitive, there is an ignore and mute button for a reason. Just block em and move on; Or turn of the chat as a whole because honestly its not really needed in the current integration of WvW.

I mean its not even a competitive mode when like one player/guild basically controls the majority of the experience to begin with. (Guild MM basically helps people claim and remain in the top socket. And has pretty much since as far back as I could remember~) Hell even PvP isn't even competitive anymore its just another road for rewards so I mean let it go I guess?

the life outside is much toxic than the game itself..

so if you can't handle toxicity in a game, congratulations, you just made yourselves "food" for certain persons outside of your computers.

As a player on Abaddons Mouth, the RoS has been linked to, I can confirm what Faaris says. I will make good use of the block/report function in the comming eight weeks as it seems.

As for the "english please" part: sure, english is kind of "the international language", but cultural imperialism aside, not everyone can speak it or should be forced to speak it. I can see how removing the language restrictions made relinking an easier task offering more change but I'm yet to convince that it helps the community or the game mode in any way. I know of a few players who chose a german server because their lacking english skills or their confidence in them understanding what's being said in /m or /t, these relinks may drive away those player who were perfectly fine on a german server/in a german linking. Same goes for other regions I guess, be it french or spanish.

If you want X, and Y is needed to get get X, you also have to want Y if you really want X. If you don't want Y, you don't want X. It's easy.

Also don't just block/ignore ppl throwing insults and threats based on nationality: report them. They clearly need some days off to cool down and think about their behaviour.

Languages such a joke right now. First time ever I disabled team chat within 2 years. Being international main server, linked to French, team chat full french mode, srsly anet, like already not enough you kitten up wvw, now even more gg, like if you hate this game mode so much, just remove it already, why keep making worse and worse. Should work toward making pple who play this game mode happy, not the opposite

I agree, AM/RoS team chat was a disgrace the first 2 hours.
Atmosphere was really nice afterwards though, especially great after midnight. Can only hope it will be like this most of the time, rather than like the first 2 hours.

    Quite agree.
They may as well just get rid of wvw rather than just slowly annoy the community to death.

Normally it's just a small group of boys trying to one up eachother. Block, report, and move on. Germans may think they are singled out, but most of those people are trying to get a rise out of anyone who bites regardless of nationality.

As for other languages in chat, contrary to what EU thinks, in NA servers you see Portuguese, Tagalog, Korean, spanish and even french depending on your server, map and timezone. Rarely do people demand English, scouting though is generally English or along the lines of location number and colours even by the non English guilds. We get you are mourning your loss of community, we all had to do it long ago so appreciate the boon you were given by having it last much longer than most

If they choose not to join the squad due to langue the com is using, they very well might not understand it and so joining would be pointless for them.

If you don't like what they are saying, block them and move on. Or, learn that this is a online game and grow some skin.

We got the GH-Dz link and apart from a few troll comments at reset, it's been pretty chill.
Dz guys are being Polite and mostly chatting English, and those that aren't are not being flamed out from what I've seen.

I was expecting a kitten show, but credit where it's due, both communities have merged pretty well in a short time. No doubt it'll be a bit up and down for a few days or weeks but I think it's been better than expected.

Players having kneejerk reactions? But thats never happened before! What is this madness?!

I've actually been treated like this in real life before. When I was young and travelled per bus through European countries, in the Netherlands and in Italy, we have been insulted as Nkittens and our bus had been thrown at with whatever they had at hand. It's not a knee-jerk reaction, it's a habit. The same happened to my grandfather when he was in Athens when he was young.

I actually am from Germany. Played from 2012 (release) to end of 2013. Then a break and just returned a few weeks ago. But since the beginning I Play on Underworld (English/international language server). Imo most other Germany take games too seriously and play for stats/rewards and gear and trying to be as much efficient as possible. Instead of "just trying to have fun" every now and then. Of course that doesn't apply to everyone and could also be only my personal impression.

But years before I started GW2 I played another game with a very small community (not an MMO ) - and I enjoyed all the different people from different european countries playing together. (Was heavily team oriented game.)

Now I'm sorry if someone from my country insulted others because of "linkings". (I think sometimes this system also links the servers that are dedicated to one language with the international ones in - in EU. At least I remember someone talking German in my Underworld WvW chat some time ago and doing a minor general insult in German language because he didn't like the non professional way other players - majority on the map - played in his opinion.)

The main problem is that people play for different reasons. Some want fun. Some want purely the win of the team. Some want to get a lot of own kills and don't care about the team. Putting rewads that encourage to play your own style (focusing less on team play to get rewards is possible) also help to keep this problem up. Back then at the release of GW2 we had the map completion that required WvW where people only doing that cluttered the map/queue and took a spot where other "real WvW players" hat to be in queue.

Edit: And I just saw someone above that is German playing on international server as well - who complained about the international players insulting cause Germans speak German. That is a problem of ArenaNet and their linking. People probably got used to speak German ... cause servers were set up like that in the beginning. There should be no insults. But even without asking politely I think most people should try to play for the team ... and communication works best if everony understands it. A few simple terms/sentences might be possible to learn easy for people that don't speak English. Or chat macros could be introduced in the game that apper for each in their own language.

Instead of XYZ is getting attacked there coult be a macro/shortcuts that people see in their own language.

I don't believe I've seen French very often yet, but I can vouch for the other four in varying amounts depending on the server (Korean being most common). For the most part I suspect that Asian players in particular are welcomed for the off-hours coverage.

IMO people get tired and notice that the way they need to "look like a decent player" they cant relly much on their personal skill since game is all about gimmicks and low effor raotations with high results, the one who performs it faster and with high dps will win.

People need to follow and forcefully play some builds even if they dont like to play that genra of builds, if they want to win, due how gimmick based game is builted.

Mechanicly wise game is very easy to carry players on offense, it is ment to help new and bad players overperforming.
Anet poor balance and skill iterations decisions generates the players behavior i think.
The devs that make the classes and skils at my eyes have a huge part on the players behavior...

  • GH is linked with Dzagonur, a German server.

As expected, tchat is actually pretty calm, map chat is nice and discord civilized. A good start that raises some hopes for the next 8 weeks.
