  1. In my case, i can't say "Yes, i'm on the target group" or "No, i don't appertain to the target group". I'm a bit of casual player with some moments where I've got the availability of time to play in a row and do almost all modes, and with some other moments where I can only play PvP or some PvE events and that's it. I used to play Ranked PvP and I got incredibly bitter seeing that this mode is increasingly full of bots, quitters, trolls and people who will insult you for the more trivial reasons; not to mention the lack of new maps and that some classes just infuriate me because they seem to have a few unfair advantages above others and you just survive in the arena instead of play haha. I don't like raids, and I'd like to play fractals/strike missions more but I lack the time to do them. WvW is the mode that least I've played (I'm still quite a newbie regarding it) and yet I see the heavily neglected it is. Contrary to what (it seems) most people have stated, I've enjoyed the Icebrood Saga so far and I think the story has been way more interesting that the previous LW's, although I recognize there are some "gaps". Having so many options for customize our characters it's something that just blew my mind, especially because I came from WoW in a time this was not possible and SWTOR where you've only got a few options to do it before it was put behind a paywall. Nonetheless, while I don't have a special opinion regarding Gemstore, I'd like mount skins and glider skins weren't "gemstore exclusive" and that we could actually loot some in-game, even if it's behind a "Collection Achievement". Having said this, I really love the game as if it was a second home but (obviously) it isn't perfect. I'd like some changes and a major focus from Anet in some existing modes, but I am realistic and know that maybe I won't get to see them. So, I still try to enjoy the game as it is while I can, but I don't know if all the things mentioned previously make me part of the target audience. I still think the game has enormous potential.
  2. Contrary to many 'foristas', i think the game has a future. A bright future? We can't know, since that's quite impossible to predict and depends entirely on the decisions A-Net make from now. But I think there's still a future for the game. Obviously, we have to consider too how the MMO market will behave in the years to come; especially with the new MMOs that are in the way and are promising to renovate and reinvigorate the genre. Said this, the same rule that apply to them (that is impossible to predict if they will success or will die in the process), apply to GW2 and many of the other big MMOs. Nonetheless, as I've said before, i really think that A-Net has the chance to address the existing problems, improve the existing modes that are neglected and, if possible, expand them. The expansion, although is the most immediate proof we have that the game indeed have a future; it is as well the trial A-Net has where they demostrate how interested they are in the game and how willing to take the decisions that have to be taken. I think this is a beautiful game, that is one of (if not) the best MMOs in the market and that it has the potential and the core strength to be bigger than it is right now, and I would be sad if tomorrow they decided to shut it down because I really want it to do well. But that's the kind of discussion I think A-Net should be taking.
  3. I don't like the shift. Sure it might be boring to set them as pure villains. But it's worse to make a sudden switch when the "enemy" setting has been there for so long. The problem is that the dragons don't interact with each other. Otherwise it would be very interesting. Yeah, I understand your point. What I mean with this is that the main problem, for me, lies in they precisely went for that kind of setting from the beginning and when they had the oportunity to make something different, they prefered to stick to it... Going back to the example I put with Jormag, I think the Sons of Svanir lore could have been better approached (especially with this "Corruption" aspect) and much more amplified, but instead what we have is that the Commander is just going to kill (again) an Elder Dragon because reasons. It is somewhat predictable, and attaching to the idea of "We good, they bad" only means that the inmense potential Elders Dragons have in the lore, if we're taking into account their supposed nature as Primal Forces, is wasted.
  4. To me the bigger turn-off is that the plot is always focused on "we must kill this dragon because is a threat" and blah blah blah. It was kind of interesting at the very beginning with Zhaitan and Moldremoth, but started to get somewhat repetitive after them. Although there was a "shift" somewhere in LS3 (can't remember the chapter) with them finding out that Dragons are indeed a sort of "primal and natural force" that helps to keep magic in balance, later in story they are still aiming to defeat those creatures "and get away with it". Jormag's plot seems to be headed to that too, with the commander and its crew as "the heroes that finished once again the dragon threat". I'd like to be surprised though, and see Jormag evolving from being a direct menace, to be something else that no one was expecting; with this said menace being other thing. (A Human God could work nicely)
  5. I don't want to be that guy but to be fair, i don't quite understand why this topic has been brought upon so frequently when all those times people left very clear that they don't want it. As someone who's played WoW in the times of TBC, WoTLK and Cataclysm, I experienced that Open World PvP (OWPvP) at first hand and I don't want it back. The lack of OWPvP in GW2 is one of many things that motivated me to play this game and I don't miss it... If Anet decides someday to implement it, that will be the day I'll leave the game completely and I'm sure (as far as i've read here in the forums and Reddit) many people will agree with me on that. Nonetheless, I'm quite neutral in adding duelings since this is way more optional. It'll sound as a clichè commentary, but I'd rather have those resources invested in the already existing PvP modes (SPvP and WvW) since they really need them. I don't think would be a wise decision to neglect those existing modes to favor the creation of a new (and quite similar) one.
  6. I don't know if it is highly impossible, but I'd like something new to the combat system... I was thinking a hybrid system where you can mix your profession (class) with another one and gain many abilities and features from that. I'm talking about something similar to Ashes of Creation or the system GW1 had from what i've read. The result from this mixture could be a new "special" profession that has as requirement that you have two characters lvl 80 of the two professions you want to fuse. An example of this can be the fusion of negromancer and warrior gaining many of the thematic skills of negromancer, the versatility and the heavy armor from warrior and some new spells that you should train by Hero Points too. another example of what could be this "fusion" system:https://images.ctfassets.net/9px3mh1bipby/xZKwqFwAACSu6SYmQmya4/bd47bbd7a3e5a55de7a24107c86fa94e/ashesofcreationclasslist-1040x644.jpg From the rest: i'd like a resurgence of the PvP and WvW scene, GvG, more mechanics that give the game diversity and more stories that doesn't necessarily must to be covered by the main one.
  7. I think it's a fine game. It's far from being perfect, but it's okay. There's a lot of things that GW2 did and still does better than many other MMOs out there (looking at you WoW) as it was quite innovative with its mechanics. It has a lot of activities that one can do (not so in the leveling part since it becomes quite repetitive after a while) an interesting story and a lot of strong areas, but i feel that the game lacks of two things that are preventing it from becoming greater: depth and more involvement from Anet. In my personal opinion (You might disagree), the lore in general could be okay, but it has so many holes that maybe newbies would find hard to figure out what's going on. Other MMOs like SWTOR and ESO cover this really well, as in both games you don't actually need to play/read/watch other products to really understand the lore. Hearts for me was a nice deviation from the common MMO-fetch-questing, but they don't tell you much about the world you're walking in. That's to me a wasted potential. Central story (Campaign, character story or whatever) focuses so much in the dragons thing that it barely tells/explains to you more about the races, side-races, factions, side-conflicts and else that are happening in the game. This is the time i still don't get who are the Djinns and where they came from, and if they have any kind of purpose or what Centaurs really want besides their fight with humans (and to be honest, I thought LW3 - 4 episode was great but they didn't help too much in understanding centaurs' intentions). New Living Worlds are OK too, but again the same trouble: they lack depth (and length) and only repeat some of the same mistakes done in prior deliveries. Regarding the involvement part, the fact that WvW is nearly dead and sPVP is going there isn't helping the game that much right now. WvW looks quite outdated and, as a newbie in the mode, it was quite hard to get to know what to do in it. It seems that there aren't new maps and/or new mechanics and many of its promised updates are quite delayed. sPvP struggles a lot in updates and balances as well, and its reward system is not creating incentives to play it seriously (not to mention quit-ragers and BOTs). In the rest, the game is poorly managed and there is no consistence. It seems like Arenanet wants to make everyone happy and it results in good but not great updates. And that dungeons are a forgotten mode is a huge letdown. The combat system is one of the best out there with virtually many options and weapons that give you unique skills and spells. I've had a blast testing every single profession the game offers to you and seeing with joy how each weapon has a different gameplay from other. That is to me one of the greatest strengths of this game. Sadly, i don't like this "Meta" thing that reigns in the higher endgame fields... it ruins completely that freedom and immersement GW2 supposedly offers. Nonetheless, after 7 (or 10, i'm not sure lol) years, I think GW2 still has a great potential to become one of the greatest (in size and in quality) MMOs. The declining market presents a huge oportunity for the devs to renew the genre, and I think if they focus better their resources and make the right choices, they'll can prevail. The next expansion is part of that huge oportunity i'm talking about. The incoming MMOs (especially the Amazon ones) are a serious competition to GW2 and the other games of the genre. That Guild Wars 2 are one of the 5 best existing MMOs is a nice achievement, but Anet should involve more in their game and improve the areas that are neglected from quite some time.
  8. While I support the idea of new races (I mean, they're really cool and change completely the way you see the game), I've got serious doubts Anet has the resources to make it happen. Tengu are a nice race (as Kodan and others are) but if you see how every race is developed in GW2 and you think about it in detail, there's a lot of work behind them that involves from voice acting, central lore, racial maps, racial cities, animations, armor... I mean, the amount of work would be huge. Not to mention that you have to create the story of these new races to make sense in a world that went on ahead without them. I rather having them focusing those resources in other modes of the game (PvP, WvW, Raids, Fractals, Graphics...) and -if possible- new professions and elite specs, for the next expansion; instead of new races.
  9. Hello Everyone! This is my first time participating in the public forum, but I was a quite active player (I'm not playing right now because of unrelated reasons). So anyways, I want to share my thoughts. I'd say that my problem is not with GW2. As someone that came from WoW and other MMO games such as SWTOR and Aion; i found this game pretty compelling, appealing, quite innovative, different from the others, and very well done in most of the cases. My problem is indeed with Anet with the decisions they're taking and the obvious mismanagement. While there are clearly things I'm not that convinced about the game itself at all, I think the biggest threat to it is the current state Anet is right now and that's a bit sad due the game has a lot of potential and opportunities that can be exploded. I don't think the game is dead as some would say here and there, but the actual situation is somewhat concerning. Anyway, I'll mention some things I'd like to change and how (without any specific order): 1. Marketing department and management: these two things are more related to the company, but as people have already said in other forum's posts; the advertising of the game online is practically null. You can't see any promotional video or any ad outside the company's official websites. If this game was better promoted, I'm sure things could be different right now. The same goes to the management. As I got to know so far (reading from forums and Reddit - I know they're not reliable sources-) is that the company is already with 200+ employees. I know the work behind a game is hard, but I doubt all the 200+ employees are dedicated at full in GW2. If yes, the complexity of the patches would be bigger, wouldn't it? I think overall that a better management of the company could improve the game's situation and inclusive, could let them space for other IPs. 2. PvP and WvW modes: I liked a lot playing almost all the modes GW2 has to offer, and I always saw these two so full of people that my PC got critical FPS falls. But the last time I could entered, this wasn't the case. I saw least people and major time between matches. That without mention the almighty one-shot classes that will kill you in 2-3 hits. I think that a big balance patch is clearly needed. The meta-class thing is not bad at all, but I'd rather that the game allows you to play all the mechanics, all the weapons, all the skills every class has to offer without it being too overpowered or the contrary, too improductive. New maps are needed too. And not only just a few new maps, but new mechanics and chores inside them that make these modes more diverse and dynamic. Maybe a PvP where you have to stole the flag from your enemies, or you have to protect your hero while he's trying to make some kind of stuffs... These two are unconnected ideas that could work somehow. 3. Open-world and masteries: I think a great idea that could renew interest in old zones and could work in new ones is revamping their graphic design, maybe bring in to them not only more texture details but climate conditions already seen in newer maps. I know this is a hell of work, but bringing in this would make the game more challenging for both new players and veterans. With those climate conditions, you could add some masteries, armor attributes and events that are linked to those weathers or day cycles. Imagine having several challenging linked meta-events about centaurs during night in Gendarran Fields (a la Auric Basin, Dragon's Stand), or several marked invasions you and more people have to counter in Iron Marches or Fields of the Ruin. These things not only make the maps even more dynamic, but they'll behave differently in day-night cycles and climates/stations. In the same way, veterans/casuals could win a lot of them because those events could grant them the climate-conditioner attributes I talked about above, skins, hard-to-get ascended mats and else, and newbie people could get a more challenging experience that'll make more enjoyable leveling with any of those rewards. Those rewards could easily be integrated in PvP, Raids, Fractals and WvW modes for people that isn't interested in Open-World (if they'll have too this climate condition thing too). I'd add that those events could be different mechanics: Siege Centaurs/Marked/Undead/etc fortresses and/or invasions from them, specials quests that send you to kill some number of rare bosses, countdowned delivery events, etc. 4. Reward and Gemstore: while I understand that Anet needs to make profit, I find fascinating (not in the good way) that All new skins go directly to the gemstore. Every mount, glider, outfit, etc that is released; won't make it to in-game but to the gemstore. I'm not implying either that it couldn't be like this, but designs that aren't on sale could go temporarily, as rewards, to open world events, raids, Fractals, PvP or WvW. This will make every mode more attractive for all audiences even if you could get any of those skins only in a low rate (1-0.5). But at least you'll have more possibilities to get them outside the offers in gemstore, won't you? 5. PvE quests: while I think the heart system was quite innovative, I felt they're quite shallow regarding the game's lore. They don't clarify much things and many new players (As I was) could feel a bit lost in that sense. I don't think this is a main issue, but I wonder if it's possible to add at least one chain quest that agglutinates all the central story of the region you're playing in and is locked behind progress. I'll explain that: my idea is that you could make this chain quest alongside the hearts, with it explaining you and introducing you to the region (not only the map) and the lore-context you're playing in. You could always choose if you want to do this chain quest or skip it and proceed with only hearts since this chain quest will not be necessary for map completion. The chain quests could grant you some extra rewards (like Lion's chest keys, Knowledge tones, boosts, etc) and experience by completing them but in order to going on, you need to be completing the hearts in the area you're now. That chain quest have the potential to make more compelling the lore, and more enjoyable to complete the map. Once you've finished the map and its chain quest, you can decide if you want to continue this quest in the next map, or you leave it for later and take other chain quest in other map. I mean, the chain quest could serve for you to understand the history of that map and the history of your race and their culture outside the 'campaign' story. It narrates you how everything regarding your race or that map originated and how surged the antagonists, like the Norns and the Sons of Svannir, the Humans and the White Mantle/Centaurs, the Charr and the Flames' Legions, etc. These chain quests would be practically a comprehensive tour/guide around Tyria. 6. Raids/Dungeons: I can't say a lot of this mode since I didn't play it that much, but I believe they could be divided in difficulties that could bring in new players into them without needing more experienced players; and they could be more attractive for veterans in more difficult modes with better rewards such as skins, materials or gifts for the next legendaries, etc. To those game modes (especially the difficult ones) could be added already existing masteries that help you to get through; and if we continue with my idea of climate conditions, you'll need the conditioners because maybe the new maps could have heavier cold weather you'll have to counter, warmer weather, etc. My idea is that the next maps have a larger span of challenges that aren't necessarily limited to NPCs but to things that you can't maybe control. No mention that these modes need too new maps, new mechanics, etc. 7. New expansion: I think everyone agree with me that isn't a better indicator of the future like an expansion. An expansion is the excuse to bring every single new mechanic to the game, new revenues, bring veterans and casuals back, etc. I think everything I mentioned before could be added into a new expansion (especially the climate stuff), but something that they could bring too is two new races (maybe kodans -Icebrood Saga- and this other bird-like whom name I don't remember right now lol) and maybe the last elite specs (since the issue of balancing) with more specific class features. I think this is all. There's many things I think I'm leaving behind but this post is already too long hahaha. I know many of the ideas are quite radical. Thank you for reading! Cheers!
