  1. I already have my turtle so this change doesn't impact me yet I think it's good for those that still plan to get the turtle and refuse or can't do the strike. What I will say though is the strike isn't bad. When I got EoD at the start of last month, I took part in the Soo-Won meta a couple weeks later and got my egg and read up on what to do to unlock the turtle and saw how you had to do that strike to get that part for it. I figured I would not bother with the mount because of that. I then changed my mind on it after having the egg entice me and decided I'd give the strike a try. I made sure not to buy the stuff you needed to buy with gold just in case the strike turned out to be horrible and I would then just scrap unlocking the mount and wouldn't have really put much into the steps until then. Well, turns out the strike was fine and nowhere near as bad/frustrating as I was expecting. I joined a pug group someone started for unlocking the turtle with most of the 10 people in it being strike newbies like me and we did it on the second try, with the first try being a reset shortly into it. The mechanics are not difficult and I don't feel you have to be some great player to do it as I'm not a great player, probably merely average, maybe above average. The biggest negative to it is having the sort of anxiety of not messing up with the numbers mechanic and costing the rest of the players a chance to complete it. This almost happened to me as we were down to 5% and I hadn't noticed I got the first number above my head and I was smashing the boss with the group to get it done when I saw the number above me (this game's visual clutter....) and just got away in time before I took the damage. I'd have felt horrible had I somehow wiped us there being so close to the end, especially since I was so good at paying attention to the number stuff throughout the strike and always got away from everyone.
  2. I think it's generally fine the way it is, though I do wish there were a few more interesting things that would drop in open world, or at least more often. Still, I like that what does drop can be converted into gold and I can then use that gold to get other things. Regarding skins being behind a paywall, you can easily just convert gold to gems and get them that way.
  3. I think Gyala Delves is a mediocre map and I have no intention to spend much time there. The first part and now second part of the meta isn't anything special with mediocre rewards and I finally got around to doing the first half of the story yesterday and had to mute the sound shortly into the second mission because the dialogue was terrible, just like it was for most of the EoD story. I don't even know if I will do this new part of it but if I do, it'll definitely be done on mute and I will just read up on what happens if I even bother to care about the story. I also think the air filter system is an abomination as you should be able to buy a perma air filter and be done with it. Having to constantly recharge it is simply a game design to troll players. I won't get into the obvious ideology and social views that the writers/employees of Anet really pushed in EoD other than to say it'd be nice if they would keep that out of a video game that probably 90-95% of people play for entertainment purposes, not to get a social or ideology lecture. I look at the core game and first expansions and then EoD and just shake my head at the change. I will also add that it is unlikely I will be buying any future expansions after EoD, both because of the horrible dialogue and boring missions EoD and the Gyala Delves first story chapter had, and because of the social views being pushed more and more which means it is very unlikely they'll stop in the future expansions. I don't need to be lectured when I am trying to have fun in something I paid for, especially when it is being lectured on stuff I do not agree with or support. You know what the best way to being "inclusive" is? By not pushing any political/social views/ideology at all since they will inevitably not include a large percentage of people. Too bad many can't grasp this.
  4. Turtle isn't useless. It's my second favourite mount after the skyscale, another mount some amusingly say is not worth it. Only thing I don't like about the turtle is not being able to use the cannons while solo. It's kind of amazing how different I am from a good portion o this game's player base, or at least the portion that talks about it online.
  5. It's clearly manipulation going on. Case in point: I sell some I had saved on Monday night of this week right before reset for something like 84-87s and someone or some people then cleared out a bunch after me to where the lowest was 89s. Within maybe 3 minutes after reset, the price was down to I believe the mid 70s because someone went and put a sell order at I think 77s when the lowest sell before they did that was still in the 80s and then the usual of people doing the stupid 1 copper less thing after that. To use your words, why would someone throw away gold just for the sake of it? If things are selling for 84+ then why on earth would you list in the mid 70s? Heck, I had some sell sometime from last night to this morning for I believe 82-84 yet when I got up, the lowest sell was I believe under 70. It's being manipulated whether the people replying to the op here want to admit it or not. The plan that you ask about is most likely people who want more runestones are lowering the price and then buying them up because the non manipulators who have no use for these things other than to make gold are seemingly clueless and will keep lowering the price instead of realize they're being manipulated. It's no different than what happens in the real world now with other "free" markets. I've seen GW2 trading post gurus talk about how they will sacrifice some of their stuff by going low on a sell order only to get others to follow and then they buy up the lower priced stuff. Why would it be different here? Whether the price of these things got too high after that change in late feb is irrelevant to the fact what's going on right now is clear manipulation.
  6. The field system is just incredibly poorly done and seems like it was designed in a way to simply troll people. I feel the same way about all the other visual effects which I really do hope will be improved when that feature is put in the game next month and it'll be interesting to see if I get hit less in bigger boss fights when I'll be able to see a bit more of what is going on. I mean, how did all this get put in the game way back when it did and nobody at that company said "You know what? This is cluttered and will be hard to read for most players" I feel the same way about a lot of other designs in this game. I simply can't believe they were not put in a way to troll because anyone that is mentally sound can come across these things and within 3.2 seconds point out how crazy they are. Enemy fields should just be one colour/design and nothing else should come close to looking like it. This is a common sense, non-trolling approach.
  7. Sounds like a good way to kill the game when you alienate the majority of players. As for me, I probably wouldn't mind more difficult mobs/non champs in open world assuming they aren't too boosted (I find HoT mobs/non champs to be fine) though I am fine with how it is now. If I want more difficult content then I'll go play those modes that have it. Or another game that is designed on that. I'm 44 and I long grew out of the period of where I felt like I needed to prove something by how I do in a video game that nobody but me and some other gamers care about. Now I simply play games for fun and to relax. If boosted enemies ended up making the game not fun then I'd quit playing. This is how most players would be as well, rather than this weird belief they'll just "git gud" and start to play all the other more challenging modes. If I want to prove how apparently awesome I think I am as a person then I'll go do something or learn a new skill that has actual importance or use in the world, not by playing a video game....or I'll go play a sport competitively and no, video games are not a sport.
  8. Give me a break. This error is being reported by a lot of people so it is on THEIR end, not ours. Furthermore, I and the others had zero issues before the patch hit and now have the problems. To try and claim it is something to do with our networks when it was working right before the patch is absurd and defies any form of logic. I'll never ever understand why some people always defend companies for their screw ups and try and gaslight that the user/consumer is to blame. It's stunning. The fact is, this recent update borked this game big time in various ways and hopefully Anet fixes it all today or tomorrow at the latest. At least they fixed the event timers and the crafting discovery issues yesterday. I personally think they should be a bit embarrassed at how broken it was from the patch (doesn't anyone in the gaming industry play test their games anymore?) but that's just me since I take pride in the work I do and feel horrible when I screw up, especially when my screw up impacts others.
  9. Yup, been getting this all day since the update dropped. Very frustrating as it "conveniently" pops up the most while in combat vs when I am just in Thousand Seas or Arborstone. My fave is how the message implies it is something on your/our end. Riiiight.
  10. I bought EoD earlier this month and here's what I like and dislike. like: -mechanist spec -fishing -skiffs -jade bot, though I don't like how things aren't account shared -the general art design of the maps, especially Seitung Province -Soo-won -ways to earn gold -Thousand Seas Pavilion -the EoD guild hall -the final story fight dislike: -a lot of the dialogue that sounded like it was from some modern day zoomers -the fact not a single voice actor/actress pronounces aetherblade correctly -Anet employees pushing more of their political and social ideology into their video game. I'm tired of this from the gaming industry as that stuff should be left for Twitter since it is divisive and not "inclusive" like they pretend it to be -getting around Echovald Wilds and New Kaineng City, even with a skyscale and griffon -many of the missions, especially compounded with all the excessive jabbering you have to listen to -most of the waypoints in Dragon's End being constantly contested. I don't like the contested waypoints design in general -New Kaineng feeling so empty -pretty much all of the meta events, though Dragon's End is fun if you have a good group -the game's lousy camera issues are even more annoying in many of these maps -the repetitive nature of events in New Kaineng -the fact I now have to do a strike mission to unlock my turtle mount -research notes -the fact tier 3 for the jade bot services/chips is tied to rng or far too excessive a cost from the vendor -look of gen 3 legendaries -even more currencies added to an already currency bloated game -Gyala Delves, if we are including it with the expansion -the fact a big part of the mechanist spec dps is lost while under water Overall, I don't regret buying it and the like trumps the dislike for me but I am more unlikely to buy any future expansions if the dialogue doesn't improve and they won't take their political and social ideological views out of their video game, which should be a form of entertainment/escapism. I should never be able to tell the real life ideology of people when playing their game or watching their movie/tv show. Also unlikely to buy if future expansions don't drastically cut back on all the unskippable jibber jabber because it is such a time filler and is made worse when the dialogue is cringe worthy as well as when all the characters incorrectly pronounce a constantly used word. Seriously...aetherblade is not pronounced that way. The difference between the core game and this expansion in terms of these points is drastic.
  11. They will cary into some other maps, at least bitterfrost frontier being one. I went there yesterday with some built up from being in EoD areas and they carried over. I wonder if there is a list somewhere that lists which maps where they will cary over.
  12. For what it's worth, I have had a staff daredevil for a while now (was mainly used as an alt chest opener) and levelled up the deadeye spec yesterday using the rifle it gives you since I wanted to get the ascended rifle that is tied to an achievement with that. I was expecting rifle deadeye to be ho-hum in terms of open world since I gathered it was mainly single target but holy cow, it's great! I was rolling through enemies with the only exception being if you sort of fall into a mob and get swarmed and can't really set things up but even there, it can manage. If you are able to approach a mob and be able to easily set up marking and kneeling then you'll melt things. I took part in a couple events with mobs and did fine in those. I only have a few hours of play on it but my initial impression is I'll be back to using my thief more and that this is better than staff daredevil as it does more damage. My main issue with daredevil is you have to jump around way too much for better damage and that isn't my type of preferred play style, and I also like being ranged more than melee, unless it is reaper where I am fine with melee. I play with a controller so it's possible this is better with mouse and keyboard where you can easily turn the camera at a much faster speed. My time with deadeye was all in the path of fire maps because of that glintlock achievement and hydras were laughable since you just mark it when you are in range, and go to town while kneeling. It won't get to you before it dies and if it throws out its aoe attack then just move before it lands. The gear I used was marauders since I had it on for my daredevil and a berserker exotic rifle. Was also using my tier 8 power core for the jade bot so that added a good bit of extra health. Armour exotic and trinkets ascended. Thing is, I didn't get hit much other than when I tried to solo the bounty you need for the glintlock achievement and that didn't go over too well with many deaths and a failure but I'm also an average player so maybe in skilled hands that could have been done solo. When I completed that bounty with a few others, I was fine. Same with a champ in an event I took part in where I barely got touched so I probably don't "need" marauders yet I'll just keep that armour as is and maybe tweak my trinkets a bit. Oh, and I didn't even have a sigil on my rifle for most of the time and then I only threw on sigil of force on it after a bit and left the other sigil slot blank. Haven't tried it out with the ascended rifle yet (which has two sigils) but plan to do that today. Also spent a little bit of time in bitterfrost after I got the glintlock stuff in the dessert and deadeye was rolling through the trash there and handled the champs just fine. So yeah, I can recommend deadeye based on my initial few hours. I'll maybe look into trying daggers and I might also try out pistol/pistol. It's possible I will lose interest like I mainly did with daredevil (really enjoyed it when I first got it levelled up) but I think this one will stick and will get a good amount of playtime for me.
  13. Love my skyscale and like seeing all the others flying around. However, if someone doesn't want to see them then sure, I'm down for that ability. Jade mechs should also have an option to hide them and dye them.
  14. Unless some posts got deleted from when you wrote that and me reading this thread right now, nobody here was being a bully "in the extreme." There's a single post that you could debate being "mean" while every other reply was helpful or simply explained why the mode is designed the way it is. We have enough words now that some people (mainly zoomers and some late millennials) gaslight about the meaning....please don't do that with the word bully or later on, you using the word hate. Nobody who replied indicated they hate the OP. In reply to the OP: I am new to the mode this year and figured out the race and some other stuff. You just need to kind of explore around and it should click. I did originally go in on explorer mode for world 1 and then moved to normal. Oddly, I found the final boss fight much easier on normal than explorer. You can also download and use the Blish HUD and the marker/path module. World 2 to me is not fun and I've only done the first zone on normal and the second I did on explorer. I have zero interest to do zone 3 in either difficulty because I am not really into this game mode. My biggest issue with it is the camera. It can be infuriating at times, and its the same issue I have with it in the regular game when it comes to some things like jumping puzzles.
  15. I think mount skins and all other skins are overpriced for what they provide and my solution to that right now is to simply not acquire/buy them. I take this same stance in real life if I come across something I feel is overpriced. I just choose not to buy it rather than expect it to change to fit my view. Their gem pricing seems to be working for skins so you're not going to see them change it because you are upset by it. Bonus here for me is I use my skyscale about 90% of the time and the best skin for it to me is the speckled shortfang which was included in that 10th anniversary freebie mount skin box they gave us last summer. It'd be nice to have a new skin for my beetle, skimmer, and griffon, yet I can wait until I have enough excess gold I won't mind blowing it on those or just go without since they only make up the other 10% of my use. I'll also add the longer one has been playing, the less likely they care about this because they have thousands in gold and probably everything else they want so they can go and spend it on different skins/cosmetics. After a year of playing, I'm personally getting to the point where I have most of the "useful" things I want so I can see myself in the future doing what I said above and using my gold on other mount skins.
  16. People can't log in for 2 minutes to click on a vendor? Show me someone whose real life doesn't afford them 2 minutes over 7 days to log in and click on something. Using your logic, I guess they should make all the festivals be accessed at any time because hey, some may not be able to log in during the 4 weeks they take place.
  17. I dislike jumping puzzles as much as the next guy yet this is not something to get upset about since you can bypass/cheese pretty much every one. When I got my skyscale back in the summer last year, I was thinking this would be a nasty step but it was not at all since I bypassed them with my springer. The only crappy thing is the Sanctum of Nabkha which uses the the jackal sand portals as that took me a while because I kept slightly mistiming a few of them. If you don't have that and can't access a griffon then you'll need someone to help you or just pay up for the treat to completely skip it, assuming you use your freebie treat on the branded ley line anomaly. Also another thing you have to find that apparently used the shifting sands mastery if you can't use a griffon near by but that one isn't frustrating to do, just has that requirement. You could also probably go to lfg and ask for help with any of them if you have a problem bypassing it and a mesmer will show up to help. Oh, and nobody is holding you hostage since the skyscale is an optional mount. Would be like me complaining I need to do raiding if I want X item/gear. I do not want to do raiding so that stuff that requires raiding is not something I will ever get which does not make it unfair. This is how life and reality works. At least with this step with the skyscale you have another option.
  18. What a bunch of elitist type garbage to refer to it as one being lazy or brain dead. It's also amazing that the mods here who are quick to censor, warn, or delete anything that could be deemed offensive to a single person don't give two rips about this when it is offensive to those that play low intensity builds. Really, mods...how is implying people are brain dead or lazy because of what they consider fun or enjoyable not offensive? Just be consistent in your moderation.
  19. I realize the personal story aspect is given as the reason but why couldn't it just be implemented once a character has completed the personal story. I'd really like a race change for my female sylvari necro.
  20. Huh? You can get that ultimate collection from the GW2 website which includes the 3 expansions, 4k gems, and then some other stuff. Sure, the gems may not cover all the LW seasons but it's a tiny difference that one can easily make up with gold to gem conversion in a short period of time and you get the other stuff that makes up for it. You have been able to buy the 3 expansions for $50 from the GW2 website for a while now which then means 50 bucks for the gems, almost the same as Steam. I have no idea where you get this 23% discount from with the Steam package.
  21. You said if there was another class that may be better suited for this so I am going to say go necro reaper. I started up the game late March and ranger has been my main pretty much the entire time (300+ hours) though I level 80 boosted a necro back in late April. I finally decided to get the reaper trait line unlocked late last week and holy cow, it's great! Very low intensity and I find it better than my condi soulbeast ranger in almost every single way, including fun. You can pretty much just use auto attack the entire time if you want and go in and out of reaper shroud with its great scythe weapon and easily handle things solo in open world/story, including mobs/vets/elites in Bitterfrost Frontier, Living World season 4 zones, Heart of Thorns, Path of Fire. I did a bunch of farming in Silverwastes today and reaper laughed at it all. No idea how it does solo vs champions since I'm not a good enough player to really solo champions...but it is at least fine vs champions if there are some others around. Haven't had any issues at all with the champions I have come across while doing events and having others around. This is basically my build: http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?PSwEcEWosCWFTjdxGxR7qs5D-zR5YBKZEPUhQQQVJEoVQCiJawcSBYEEShAIBGbKURF43A-e So that's the class/prof I would recommend for you. I also prefer low intensity since I play with a controller and it can be a pain having to push a bunch of different button combos in a rotation and while I didn't find my ranger to be too bad with this and it has less input needed than my firebrand guardian (a great and fun class), it was still more than I would like to use when I am just running around in open world. This has been great for that. I still do like ranger but the class needs some changes I feel based on my time with necro and guardian. Ranger just seems to be lacking a good bit of stuff, specifically if playing solo. You can also run core necro with say death magic replacing reaper trait line and it is still pretty solid until you have reaper unlocked.
  22. "I see something I don't like and it bugs me enough that people are doing it to make me actually comment on it but I will end off my statement by saying "whatever", implying I don't care when I do, otherwise I wouldn't have made the comment in the first place" That's the translation of what you said and boy does it trigger me when people do this. Don't complain about something and then say "but whatever", either completely invalidating the complaint and wasting the time of people that listened to or read the complaint or implying that you don't care when you clearly do because one would not waste their time making a complaint if they didn't care. IE, me here with this. I do care about this stuff given how big a pet peeve it is of mine which is why I am venting about it. Furthermore, the actual definition of the word whatever is not "I don't care" regardless if some people have sadly decided to think that is what the word means. May as well just say "but banana" if people are going to make up what a word means. As for the original topic, my buddy is on the xp fast track while I am not. He's done probably not even half as much as I have in time and actual content and is only 3 levels behind. It'd be nice if everyone was at the same pace and I feel like either the default should be the fast track or somewhere in between him and what I am getting. For the action cam, I am a new player and am a big fan of it since I play with a controller and my brain did not like the regular camera movement where it'd always swing to be behind me when I pushed left or right on the left thumbstick. Gave me a headache. Now it is more like a regular 3rd person type camera control and that works well for me to the point I wouldn't have bene able to keep playing this game without it. I could see it not being preferred for keyboard and mouse users that also keep the camera zoomed out and can hold a mouse button to control the camera.
  23. I'm a fairly new player and can share my experience with and without the mount while levelling. I put in around 64 hours running around on my main without the mount and enjoyed it. I eventually created another character (thief) and as I didn't want to just run around again doing the same stuff, I decided to use my boost on my necro (original character I made before moving to ranger for my main) since I tested out a necro using an elite spec and enjoyed it so I knew it would be worth using the boost on. Unlocked the raptor while just skipping all the story/dialogue stuff so as to not spoil it for me with my ranger/main playthrough. Equipped the mount with my thief and kitten, so nice! I still had the plan to just walk using my ranger for the rest of the story/levelling up to 80 (she was around 65 at this point) but I then did a bit of farming a couple nights and used it on her even when I went to a couple new areas and I now don't know if I can go back to strict running. My view is the mount is good even as a new player rather than a bad thing. I am still exploring a lot on foot yet have the luxury now of quickly getting to another event if it pops up on the mini map and I am a decent distance away on foot or if I want to backtrack/go somewhere I have visited and do so fairly quickly but don't want to spend the ever increasing waypoint cost to do so. It's also fun to leap off high places on the raptor like after unlocking a vista. Do I think new players need the mount? No. Would I be against it if they added in some basic mount for them? No. I find the game/levelling to be better and more fun with the mount than without since this game has the best mount design I have ever experienced in a game. I think it'd be a bit silly if someone quit the game simply because they didn't have a mount early on while at the same time, I don't think having a mount early on would be a disservice for them to experience this wonderful game. Perhaps the best thing about how it is currently is that it gives people even more incentive to buy the expansions and to look forward to getting them.
  24. I'm a new player starting at the top of this month and really like this game so far. Bought the first two expansions last week and my view is that I'm fine with how this is. I do wish they gave expansion buyers one extra bank slot yet I don't mind buying another if I really want it and I fully expect I will buy another. The game with the free to play core and the 2 expansions gives you a hell of a lot of gameplay for what is only 30 bucks or I guess even less if one got/gets it on sale. I don't mind if I decide to eventually spend another 30-40 bucks on gems to get convenience type stuff and bring the cost of this game up to a normal game price, especially when I plan to spend hundreds of hours in it. As others have stated, there is no monthly subscription so one could look at buying these things as a sort of semi subscription if they truly want the items.
  25. Decided to chime in since I'm a new player that started this game at the start of this month and I've enjoyed my time in it as I level up. Does the new player experience just mean say the first 10 to 15 levels? If so, it is a bit slower compared to after that but nothing that would make me want to quit. Maybe the issue is what profession someone chooses and how they are off the bat. The first one I created was a necromancer and I wasn't feeling it early on regardless of the weapon I tried out so after I got to 16 on my necro, I decided to make another character, a ranger. Enjoyed the ranger from the start and I'm now at level 65 with 64-ish hours played on that character since I like to explore and try and complete the zones. I recently made a thief and I'm enjoying that play style as well from the very start. I'm at 20 right now after I think 8 hours and change since I am not spending as much time exploring as I did the first time with my ranger. Just tonight I used the 80 boost for my necro (I tested out a level 80 reaper build in the pvp golem area and liked it) to unlock the raptor mount for my thief and wow, that thing is awesome! It should save some solid time as I repeat everything with my thief. I still plan to mostly walk with my ranger as I explore the rest of the new base game areas so I can get the "original" experience. If I decide to go back to some previously explored areas to do some events before continuing to move on then I'll whip out the mount with the ranger. Regarding Lost Ark since it was brought up in the first post, I started playing that game when it was released on Steam and enjoyed it for quite a while but then the honeymoon period ended to the point I barely play it now and only really log in for maybe 30-40 mins each day to do a few things and even that time is going to soon drop to probably under 10-15. I can say that I find GW2 to so far be better in almost every single way and I am having more fun in GW2 levelling up than I do now in Lost Ark's "end game" after just under 500 hours played and also more fun than I did when I was levelling up in Lost Ark. Lost Ark's levelling is basically pushing the G key or doing emotes in a circle and going from NPC to NPC. The hearts system in this game has far more action/combat than in Lost Ark's levelling system and the only really enjoyable thing in levelling Lost Ark would be the occasional story dungeon you had a mission in. Killing mobs in that game was useless since you got next to no xp for it. I also skipped the cut scenes and NPC chat windows in Lost Ark while here I am watching and reading them. GW2 so far seems to simply be more my type of game as I like the horizontal progress design, the open world feel, and the fact you can get xp from just running around and taking out mobs and doing the fun world events. Lost Ark is basically a raid simulator game and the gear/vertical progression system in it is a hamster wheel type design. If there is one thing that kinda sucks in GW2 levelling is this apparent A/B testing they are doing with xp. I got my buddy to join the game after I checked it out (btw, he really likes it too and prefers it to Lost Ark which he quit playing after over 400 hours) and he apparently got put into the group getting the increased xp as he's actually higher level than I am despite playing for far less and doing far les both in completing zones, hearts, and events I've basically done twice as much as he has and he's level 68 to my previously mentioned 65. He started the game when I was already in the 20s with my ranger. It seems like he is getting double the xp I get. It'd be nice if they just had everyone getting that same amount of xp from the start both for time reasons as well as it can cause issues if you are playing co-op with someone and they have it while you don't and a big gap in levelling can show up which can factor into things like working together on each other's personal story. At one point he was 9 levels ahead of me. All in all, this is a great game so far for me and I could easily recommend it to anyone looking for a fun game that so far appears to respect your time. Lost Ark does not respect your time. I also wish I had found out about this game months or years ago than recently and wished I started this game back in Feb rather than Lost Ark...though I guess playing that game and seeing how it is designed has let me appreciate GW2 even more.
