  1. I think people are sleeping on the power of untamed atm.
  2. hrm. i was sure i was on the guild wars 2 forums not the wow forums. the overall mmorpg community is in a sad, selfish state. edit: stop necro'ng 3 year old threads.
  3. i played that the other day on my old ranger. it was disappointing. not only was our "commander' using cheats to see the enemy commanders and admitting to it, but anytime i downed someone they popped defiance went invuln and ported away. There should only be two ways to access pvp/wvw mode and neither should be free. 1) buy a 1 week duration ticket from the gem store for 1500 or more gems.2) buy the elite edition of pof for a permanent ticket. won't eliminate the cheating, but will make it not quite as easy to recover from the ban since you don't need to actually buy anything to ruin other people's fun in this game.
  4. the cheating is pretty rampant. "commander" and i use the term loosely here, running around saying to "stay on pin" never engaging in a fight for over an hour. you ask why are we just running? am told this guy is an old and known cheater who can see where enemy commanders are so he runs the zerg around until he finds a fight we can win. even little fights where we outnumbered - no fight keep going. their zerg will catch up. SO???? what kind of pvp do you never fight and never lose? fight a revenant. they get to 50% health and they get the defiance buff. heal up get them to 50% they pop it again. seriously???? how is this allowed? and how do people not think this isn't going to continue to create a toxic culture where you can't win if you don't cheat?
  5. the protection inherent to renegade does not require 25 stacks of carapace to get or maintain. it's not the same thing. I constantly sit at 30+ stacks in combat with no effort. You get perma protection just for being in combat, not sure why that isn't the same thing. Perma protection is perma protection, just pointing out that Necromancer has it too.it has a ramp up. you aren't applying that many conditions so fast as to have that many stacks at the outset. i do have a necro, don't exaggerate.
  6. the protection inherent to renegade does not require 25 stacks of carapace to get or maintain. it's not the same thing. Dwarf stance with herald gets 100% reduction windows if you need it too. Somebody said rev is low sustain but that's a huge joke. Op made the right choicepower renegades with a little bit of concentration get 6s of protection with every summon. in pve since you sit in kalla most of the time cycling two summons, you practically always have it. Sustain only takes a hit if i opt to go double SB because then my only source of vuln to stack extra battlescars come from icerazor and the opening shot of combat for the most part but even then it's still a crazy amount of sustain. only sucks on mobs that charge a lot and keep your summons on their backsides.
  7. condition renegade doesn't have to go 2/2/2. can go 2/3/2 and get protection on demand. it's also why i stick with power renegade for open world using a mix of diviner and berserker. they still haven't fixed that one bug where you do no damage while dead.
  8. in a game without a holy trinity, how do you propose balancing these dungeons without homogenizing the classes? if everyone can be dps and everyone can be support....
  9. the protection inherent to renegade does not require 25 stacks of carapace to get or maintain. it's not the same thing.
  10. Went with the rev. I don't much care for how necro plays.
  11. Hello, Could use some help on a decision here. I have not done any kid of pvp/wvw in this game since the launched. My desire to pvp kinda fell through as I have been mostly a pve players the last nearly 30 years i've been doing online MUDs and MMORPGS. but oddly as I get older my available time for these games gets less and less, so I want to concentrate on just one class that can do the most possible. I enjoy the revenant (power renegade specifically) for pve (have never done the raid or any fractals) although at time i find myself just sitting in kalla and not changing legendaries often.I like the necro (power or condition minion master, core or reaper however i despise how the greatsword feels) also for pve but tehre are def some things the necro can't do that the renegade can due to that class' easy access to nearly perma protection. I wish to dabble in pvp, specifically wvw and will be solo or pugging nearly exclusively. given an average to mediocre player, which of these classes will do better? I don't have a build preference in wvw condition, power, elite spec it wont matter as I will have builds/sets for everything each class can do. Thanks!
  12. Renegade already does damage faster than Herald (either power or condi variants), can fight both ranger or at mele, and Darkrazor's deletes defiance bars as handly as Surge of The Mist (larger energy cost but much lower cooldown and can be cast at range). Soulcleave's + Sevenshots (7 seconds cooldown) refills your HP entirely . If the summons were immune to cc and had larger HP then wouldn't be a reason ro run Herald in PvE instead of Renegade: it would be better at everything. Fortunately, is not the case: I don't think the weakness of the summons are that crucial, because some of those monsters with AoE cc have a defiance bar which can be deleted with a single well timed, well placed Darkrazor, and when they aren't champions usually explode after absorbing a few volleys of arrows. Some of the videos in this thread showcased strong performances of Renegade builds at PvE soloing bounties and hard bosses. On top of that, for open world events with large number of players in which sometimes the game experiences heavy lag and low framerrate (Dragon Stand, Dragonfall, Drizzlewood meta events...) playing a Renegade short bow build is way easier and safer than trying to reach mele range (sometimes the goons die before you arrive under heavy rain of rangeg attacks from your team mates, sometimes the visual cluster is so dense that you can't see the warnings from the attacks from the bosses, etc.). Does the Renegade offer the best builds for open world PvE? I'm not sure, but arguments can be made about and anyway seems clear that is far from "being horrible" at that task. Hizen showcased a solo OW PvE power Firebrand build which is powerful and tanky; and I think that is fun to play. But I've been playing also the Roul (Snowcrows) condi Firebrand build for solo PvE and albeit a bit more frail and less "flashy", seems to be able to kill the same content in ~35-40% less time. That's HUGE. So my point is: He loves soloing hard content and approaches to the Renegade seeking to replace the Herald to do the same tasks but better, but happens that the Renegade has some trade offs. And that's not inherently bad, in my opinion. I personally prefer the Herald over the Renegade, but currently I'm playing 4 different Revenant builds and I can see how they fill different roles making them useful for different tasks. sevenshot can't heal you if you have no battlescars because icerazor keeps getting knocked downdarkrazor can't delete defiance bar if it's constantly cc'd and on it's butt it is an actual issue that can turn what should have been a narrow or sure victory into a sudden defeat.
  13. A lot of reponses to this post and sorry for the necro here, but none of them actually address Hizens issues with Kalla. The summons can be cc'd, negating them completely in many fights. Given Kalla is your main source for vuln for battle scars if playing pure bow or condition renegade, and the base heal is low because it pulses an aoe heal that stops when the healing summon is knocked down/feared it IS an issue. the summons need stability inherent.
  14. Not wanting to contribute to the necro, but the class is locked behind HoT right? that's going to skew it's "played" numbers. if not well i don't know what everyone elses problem is. i mean if they don't want to play the best class in the game with the best shortbow then that's their loss imo.
  15. this was my finding too. i'm finding both a power and condition revenant to be just as survivable with substantially more damage.
  16. Since drms dont have a time limit in what way do you need to burn things as fast as you can to complete it? the way people talk around here, everything.
  17. this has been my torment for the last 7 days. i returned to the game two weeks ago having only played a few months when the game launched. i am purely pve. i may dabble in pvp eventually but that's not my focus. I had a ranger in 2012 it was my main and I was into both aspects of the game but the pvp performance back then pushed me towards a mesmer. i boosted a necro to 80 with some expansion but only played a day. that's what I got. I still can't decide. lord hizens poison ranger build is pretty slick but low damage and purely melee. the taimi fight in living world season 4 was a horrible experience with this build. i would prefer a double shortbow ranger build but am not smart enough about the game to know how this actually transitions from dagger/dagger, dagger/torch. necro power reaper was likewise a horrible experience in living world 4 with all of the chain knockbacks of the awakened and being melee. i have tried condition necro both core, reaper and scourge. the scourge being a bunker playstyle does not appeal to me although it's tough as nails. condition reaper felt really squishy and the scepter feels clunky. you also lose a lot of aoe outside of shroud and the life force generation is anemic but the damage was quite good the revenant had the easiest time with that taimi fight and unlike the above characters didn't get downed once being power bow sword/sword. however i miss boon stripping/corrupting especially vs the awakened and their persistent regen. it's also a lot more buttons. i frequently forget to press the button that gives me might for kalla stacks and her spirits are vulnerable to all of the cc living world 4 throws at you. i love the shortbow - it has a little of everything. i think the only way i can enjoy it is double bow, even with the annoying reflects from the branded. so im in the same boat, OP. I want my old ranger back and I want to be as tanky as my revenant and core necro are, but doing so makes the combat itself suck and when you get to a certain point in toughness it seems mobs just ignore your pet completely. i don't know how i'm going to get a bristleback. want the pet, but HoT zones are known to the surgeon general to cause rectal cancer. daily i waffle between the 3, have been for a full week now and today still cant decide even though ultimately and long term i will only be able to play one. I haven't tried a mesmer mirage yet i hear that's good, but i suck at dodging stuff.
  18. i did but its doesn't say what skill need to sync what skills etc. for ex it said holosmith is easy, but apparently there is alot heat management etc, snowcrow doesn't mention it. the only one so far seem to be easiers is dd clearly you dident read mate scroll further down and you see this. Its quite easy to click a link and scroll half down the page but let me make it even easier. Editmy mess up of copying and pasting from the home page directly and not having time to go print screen, paint cut the image then over to imgur to upload and get it to work on forum.Have no say over how easy or hard something is. linking my source and were on that page the thing I tried to copy was, should be enough guideance for someone to find the information right?that is still a mess. An obscenely long "rotation" or "loop" as many of you incorrectly call these things that is neither beginner friendly nor accessible to the masses. you turn the game from a game into work, sometimes harder than many peoples' jobs. not as many people want to learn to play the piano or guitar in order to enjoy a game as you may think. hence the rise of the soulbeast.

  20. these meta discussions are as they are in a game that tried to eschew the holy trinity AND add content that typically requires the holy trinity.now your only way to beat things is to burn it as fast as you can to ignore as many mechanics as you can. this is a balance issue that this game will never be able to fix unless it decides to move towards an actual holy trinity.
  21. after playing scourge and reaper both power and condition, gotta say that i prefer core necromancer for practically everything now. using minions and having soul reaping, blood and death magic is such an amazing combo of survivability for me and everyone around me and (with a power build using dagger, axe and whatever offhands) insanely fast shroud generation while not really skimping on the damage. the other builds will have a champion or 10 in the new or old world that can just wreck it. don't feel it with core.
  22. a power necro or condition necro core poops all over other core setups at end game, even core revenant. it can't die, and it's kill speed gets faster the more you understand the fights. my experience doing a core necro, rev, engineer, ranger, mesmer in the last two weeks at 80.
  23. does that build barrier the way hammer auto attack does? that's what im looking to do, face tank like a lot of the youtube guides
  24. so OP..i have had the same question as you and my journey this last week to find not only the best class/spec to complete as much as I can solo while also not being required to play on the spaztic level of a lord hizen has been frustrating and expensive by way of gems and gold. depends on how hard you want to work for that bounty, or that champion. some just can't be solo'd without a very specific class or spec (looking at you bastard toxic spider queen and your damned cocoon), but a lot of the classes posted here are a lot of work to play at the level that does solo. i started farting around with champions in pof with a core power necro minion master, unlocked reaper and did the same thing and y'know what? i found the simplicity of core necro and the fact taht shroud lasts sooo much longer to be far more relaxing and just as effective if not a little slower to kill. took ranger from 2012 into pof unlocked the points made a soul beast and found that if i didn't already know all of the mechanics of the particular champion/elite/whatever i was going to be downed, even in the newly tradeable trailblazer stuff. i'm going to try a scrapper next. they look braindead easy to play which is weird considering it's attached to an engineer, but they seem obscenely powerful for the effort you put in. not having a ranged option could be hard when you try to do some stuff in old tyria like the swamp event in queensland, but who says you cant slot a grenade kit and just chuck when you can't melee? my problem is i despise core engineer and i can't wrap my brain around a core engineer that is going to get all of those pof points to unlock scrapper considering i didn't have to learn the fights on my core necro - she bullied herself and abused fully all of those champions without trying - but i'm also sooo bored of necro (and everyone and their mother is a necro, which i find a turn off along with halatosis and webbed toes).
  25. the actual question is - is she performing at the level she would need to be successful in end game open world? because if she's really not, let her keep working on that ranger/druid. There are workable open world druid builds, and as a duo what better pairing could you ask for? She probably won't be able to solo the stuff you can because she does not have the experience you do but I can say that after nearly 30 years of MUD"s and MMORPG's the worst thing you can do when introducing someone to this genre is to try to talk them out of playing what they want to play. these are social games, and we all had to establish our identities and who we wanted to be in them. help her when she asks, guide her when she is frustrated but whatever you do don't belittle her class/spec choice in any way even if she's doing something weird like a petless core ranger. She will learn on her own, at her own pace what she does and does not like in MMORPG's, assuming she's not just here to make you happy and because it's your hobby. If that's her reasoning...well...
