[EoD]Download is stuck

Recommended Posts

Downlaod is stuck at 56%, but it kept showing that its downloading (the size kept increasing). I closed it and opened again, where it started from before (but at 0%), after 10mins i see that it says it downlaoded 2.5GB data, but the percentage is at 0% and number of files to be downlaoded is same as before.

Is it normal?

same experience, for me it stopped moving at 42%, then after restarting the launcher it went back to 0% and still kept "downloading" files while it doesn't seem like anything is being saved to my storage at all. been able to log in and play though, so no idea what exactly is going wrong here.

Are you sure? Because if it's not a server problem, it's caused by something on your end blocking or modifying what GW2 is downloading. The current IP is 34.194.115.213 (or 34.237.107.160). Quick test to confirm the hosts file was properly modified - set the IP to 127.0.0.1 and start GW2 - it should fail to connect.

If you want a little more information that might be useless, set the IP (34.194.115.213) and launch GW2 with the options:
-log -patchconnections 1

If it gets stuck, let it sit for a minute, then exit. View the log file for details: %appdata%/Guild Wars 2/Gw2.log

The log isn't showing anything - either it's "working" (downloading very slowly) or it's not actually doing anything. Try it again, but first delete %appdata%/Guild Wars 2/Local.dat (it'll force a small download) and leave it open for 10 minutes, then see if the log shows any warnings.

Assuming a software problem, open a command as an administrator and enter the following commands:
netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset
msconfig

Under msconfig, select the boot tab, check safe boot and network under it, then OK to reboot into safe mode. Remember this, as you'll need to uncheck safe boot to return to normal. Confirm you have a internet connection under safe mode, as most software will be disabled, which may disable your connection. Try patching.

When I open the hosts file with cmd its empty with nothing in it.

It depends on your system and security software - it can be an empty text file, not exist or as shown (normal). It doesn't matter, it just needs to be a text file with that 1 line to work:
34.194.115.213 assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com

What does this mean? To use the primary server? How can I use it, never done it before

See the link - follow the image guide.

Alternatively, search the start menu for cmd, right click it (Command Prompt) and select run as administrator. Enter the following to completely overwrite your hosts file (copy the line, right click the command window to paste it, press enter to run it):

echo.34.194.115.213 assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com>%windir%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Launch GW2. When you're done, reset it:

echo.>%windir%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Thanks a lot! It finally worked :)

my internet provided is blocking downloads (games only). I normally get around using VPNs. But for downloading gw2 it is just not working. I normally get around this by starting the download by using my mobile internet data and then switching to my local internet and with vpn it just works, but for GW2 it just does not work, only in mobile internet data does, but that is limited data.

Any solution?

EDIT: To be clear, it does not connect when I start with launcher using local internet, but can be bypassed by using the mobile one.
Once it is in I switch back to local. But then the download is stuck at 0-25kb/s. No errors. Just slow/stuck.

Tried about every solution from command prompt and host files to numerous VPNs, still no progress.

Was that log with or without the hosts file modified? It says without, so if you thought it was, try again.

That said, the file you're stuck on is #2586457 (97.3MB) and the reason is it's failing to connect. Disable any software that monitors your web traffic and try again, or look above for msconfig and try to patch under safe mode. If you're lucky, you can try to open the file in your browser and whatever is blocking it may reveal itself:

From your local patch server (if the hosts file isn't modified):
http://assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com/program/101/1/0/2586457

From the main patch server:
http://origincdn.101.arenanetworks.com/program/101/1/0/2586457

Most common cause is your local patch server hosting corrupted files, resulting in GW2 infinitely downloading nothing. Use the primary server:

Can confirm... This suggestion works

at-first i tried updating client normally before applying this solution and the download got stuck at 61k files remaining past the "playable" point

tried downloading the entire game as fresh install... the same happened stuck at 61k files remaining past "playable"...

then

modified the windows hosts file pointed the asset cdn to gw2's origin cdn ip as mentioned by healix... restarted pc... now atleast the files getting downloaded consistently even though they are a bit slow at 4Mb - 8Mb/secs but its downloading without it getting served the corrupted files...

Hope anet fixes the corrupted server files soon... the problem is with the new expansion files it seems

Edit:[might not work]

also refer this post suggestion and try the target url parameter "assetsrv " instead of changing windows hosts file

modify the gw2 game shortcut's target to include the option -assetsrv

eg: "H:\Games\Guild Wars 2\Gw2-64.exe" -assetsrv 0.0.0.0

0.0.0.0 should be repalced with the IP of origin assets cdn server that u noticed in console/terminal/command prompt when using nslookup command
