People like these maps? Think they are fun and engaging?

Recommended Posts

Everyone's going to enjoy something different. We've had a lot of maps that feel war-torn and scavenged; it's a really nice change of pace to have somewhere that encourages me to explore, rather than just fighting my way around. Personally, these are possibly my favorite maps in the game so far. I've spent a lot of time in the city, just listening and watching and being immersed in the environment. For me, they're a lot of fun^^

I think people are just focused on nostalgia and the fact that the maps are pretty. They do seem a bit hollow in terms of gameplay to me but I haven't had time to really do much of the events. To be honest just traveling through Echovald I really didn't see that many interesting events. I guess the main attraction here is the fort aspenwood event?

Jade Sea is surprisingly breathtaking compared to what I was expecting and it does have a meta but I found finding events to fill the meta progression bar to be... painful? Really feels a bit barren to me.

Kaening I haven't even had time to explore but I don't expect anything other than f-events and weird delivery events using mounts or zip lines. Didn't expect much outside of exploration and I think it's fine being the Amnoon Casino of this expansion.

Shing Jea I have no idea. I think I saw quite a few events there but I've spent the least amount of time in this map outside of progressing the story.

All in all I think they're all visually well done but I do get the sense that they'll quickly be abandoned. It's also difficult when there are likely a lot more events that just aren't triggering because of the instance cap issue. I'd give them all a little more time before writing them off due to that alone.

Your claim for "sparse mobs" alone shows that you have barely spent any time on the map.

Icebrood was sooo much better than this.

🤣 ... sorry.

And fishing masteries?

Icebrood was sooo much better than this.

I actually think the maps are well designed. The only one I didn't care for was Echovald Wilds due to all the trees and obstacles making it difficult to traverse with anything other than the Skyscale and Griffon mounts.

Very much agree with everything youve written.

Have a good one.

This expansion is not as fun as I thought it would be, compared to HoT, PoF, or LW.

City maps are terrible (mostly because they are boring), but my main problem is low performance on those maps. On my RTX 3070 (1080p, mostly high/medium settings) on New Kaining map for example, FPS is very random. I look north, 90 fps. Look south, 50 fps.  Look east oh 60ish, ... that is at a GPU load of 50%. This GPU is a monster at 1080p, capable of running ANY (yes ALL OF THEM) games at ultra @ 120fps,  EXCEPT GUILD WARS 2.. can't even get a consistent 60fps.

I like all the maps except Kainheng.

I don't mind about the cyberpunk style but the level design is terrible...

You should have more ways to travel in the city without spending minutes to climb with your Skyscale.

Moreover this city should be a vibrant city with a lot of persons and crowds. It's empty and with no soul... Just tall blocks and lights... No population, a lot of empty spaces and as I said, no soul.

Shing Jea was my favorite GW map, and now it is my favorite GW2 map.  I love it.  Kaineng city is a horribly laid out city, but so is Lion's Arch and Black Citadel.  Actually the bank is the only place I go in Divinity Reach.  I never go to them except for specific items - Kaineng City will be the same. It is lovely, but atrocious ha ha.

I am enjoying the story more than any story in the franchise (been playing 16 years).  I dislike the mini-game aspect of fishing but other than that I am absolutely loving this expansion! 😎

I like them visually. The mountain parts in the dragons end map in particular really do it for me (though I think they didn't take the theme far enough, the jade sea part is interesting but less so).

Gameplay-wise... meh. Like the rest of the expansion. Only the dragons end meta is good and its overdone. Loot seems to also be very meh (though maybe I don't know what is valuable yet).

I still have to pick where I want to farm experience for the masteries and I honestly don't know, its like choosing between bad and worse.

  • I've only seen the meta on the first map once, and it failed with 7 min remaining on the timer - most players didn't even get to the last boss. No idea if we did something wrong or it bugged out (a theme in the entire expansion).
  • I've not spend enough time in the city to see the meta, the city is just so boring.
  • The one in the cathedral forest I've also seen only once and it 1 shot me (no downed state), the only indication I got was 1 person on the chat telling ppl to prepare to avoid (I didn't even see what honestly).
  • And the only interesting part of the dragons end meta is the end - 20 minutes out of 2 hours... The events before the end of the meta are just meh.

If I could farm the exp in HoT or PoF or even icebrood maps, I would do that instead. There are far better rewarding and far more interesting maps there. Literally every HoT map is even more interesting to look at, has a more engaging and rewarding meta. In PoF you got at least dragonfall, some of the other LS4 maps are not bad either. And icebrood has grothmar valley and drizzlewood coast (where even the north part is better than anything I've seen in the new expansion, and the north part is way weaker than the south part).

Map completion is also pretty meh. The hearts are few but take forever to finish. I recently completed every map on my war (world + LS + expansions), can't say the EoD maps are better in any way than the rest of the maps I did.

Overall, HoT has maps I play every day, PoF has specs and mounts that I use every day. What does EoD have that is special? Bugs? With the new specs being overall a disappointment and not wanting to do strikes, the only content I was looking forward to was the maps and their metas... and that is meh too.
