Abusing commander tag extra pip

Hi, I don't know how common is this, but today I found a player with 4 additional alternate accounts on WvW for the extra pip.
He/She, with his main account was tagged up and the other 4 accounts where joined to the squad. He had the 4 accounts running endlessly to the walls with a bot/macro/whatsoever and with his main account was just recaping closest supply campaments to always be with tier X participation. With that way, he was earning an extra pip, not much I know, but he was occupying the spot for 4 players more.

It was pretty obvious he was doing that, because just after reporting this on team chat, he suddenly untagged and the 4 "afk" accounts closed simultaneously.

So now I wonder, is that even "legal", and how often do you find cases like this on WvW lately?

there is 2 diffrent topics here kinda.

The first one is the 4 additional accounts. Sounds like he was multiboxing. Not saying this happens alot... but its happening. Not really a way to actually prove that he is doing this tho. The only way that you can really spot that is if he actively plays the 4 accounts. If he is multiboxing they should all move in eachother all the time and do everything simultaneously. If you just see 4 people running into a wall... not really a way to put your finger on it and say: YES! THIS RIGHT HERE IS MULTIBOXING!

Also the 4 people running into the wall wont have participation, so they wont get alot of rewards. Participation is playerspecific. So if just 1 of those accounts is actually playing... just one will actually get loot.

Multiboxing is against the Terms of Service and is banable, but its hard to tell from your example if that is really what happened.

The second topic: Using a Commandertag for extra pips.

Nothing illegal about that. Everyone can turn on the tag at any point. You can even enable it and kick everyone that is joining the squad. There is no rules against this. You could have every 70+ people on the map with their own Commandertag, just so that everyone gets more loot.

No. Causing his 4 other accounts to take actions to keep from getting kicked while he played on the main account is against the TOS and is explicitly called out as something not allowed while multiboxing. Multiboxing is also forbidden in WvW to begin with.

Here is the page where Anet's policy on multiboxing is posted: Policy

You should report that player for botting.

Pointing out here that Multiboxing within PvE, so long as you follow very specific rules, is not against the TOS and is not bannable so long as you follow very specific rules that Anet has published. There is a link I posed above, but in this case that tag was breaking 2 rules, one of which was that they were multiboxing in WvW which is straight up forbidden.

Pasting the policy directly here:

Policy

A player may own and operate several accounts, but they may do so only when they play and control each account independently of any other account. This means that:

  • Each account must be attended at all times.
  • Each account must be operated independently of each other.
  • Accounts must not be operated simultaneously using macros or bots.
  • One keystroke should translate to one action on one account.

Here’s what you should keep in mind if you plan to run multiple clients:

  • You may use more than one account at the same time.
  • You may use more than one computer at the same time.
  • You must be actively playing on each account.
  • You may NOT program your keyboard to perform functions on more than one account at a time. For example, if you press [W] on your keyboard to move forward, a single character on a single account should move forward. The keystroke or mouse click should not perform functions on more than one account.
  • You may not use a macro to activate the skills of a character or multiple characters on more than one account.
  • You may not use third-party botting tools to manage and play any number of characters, or to engage in unattended gameplay.

As a final note:

  • Multi-boxing may ONLY be used in PvE areas. You are not permitted to run multiple accounts simultaneously in PvP*, WvW, activities, or in other competitive environments.

    * We make an exception for the use of multiple accounts in custom arenas, but encourage anyone hosting a custom arena to, as a courtesy to all participants, specify that multi-boxing is allowed in that arena.

WHAT!?

So actually doing Metas on your own with 15+ Tempests all just spamming Airoverload is a thing......

Enough internet for that day. xD

Edit: Nvm i read it more closely... you are only allowed to control one at a time.. which is kind of useless for multiboxing if you do anything other than leeching xD

If that person went to each account and used the skill manually? Yes. If they used software to do it. No.

There are specific ways to leverage that language, and one very popular 'farm' where it is handy and does not break TOS.

Multiboxing to get an extra single pip every 5 mins? Wow. All that electricity bill costing (hardware too?) to get a single, solitary, pip.

That's sad.

Its possible to do it from one computer. In PvE and PvP custom arenas you are allowed to multubox from multiple machines, or even the same machine. The simultaneous operation rider is about using macros/software to automate character actions.
