Least played profession?

The issue with gw2 efficiency is that it take into account the data over 10 years while the flavor of the mont profession changed many time. If the OP want to play the currently least played profession, I believe that he also need to sort out the various specializations.

This being said, I do believe core professions are currently amongst the least popular choice (beyond leveling, of course). And amongst the core professions, core elementalist might be the thing that you'll see the least in the current game.

Maybe I should have been a bit more detailed and went with the specializations > core. I didn't even know you could play just the "core" class at end game. I thought you had to have a specialization as well? I am a complete noob so please excuse my noobishness.

Unless Arenanet actually releases official statistics, we have no way of knowing which profession is played the least.

GW2efficiency is not representative of the entire playerbase, so take their data with many grains of salt.

I got a thief and an engineer to 15. (nothing to boast about lol). Might try Rev out.

Well, each x-pack bring e-specs that change quite a bit the way you can play a profession. Nowaday, very few player don't play one of these e-specs. So, if you really want to play what's the least played in the game, not playing an e-spec is a good way for you to actually achieve this objective.

And I'm suggesting core elementalist because the elementalist playerbase is probably the one that despise the most it's core profession. Most of them believe that it's unplayable and very weak (It's definitely not true but you can't do much about people prejudices when they are already widespread)

For a very long time, it was engineer or revenant that was played much less than the rest of the classes.  Engineer most likely due to flavor and playstyle, and Rev because you needed to buy heart of thorns.

Now that mechanist is a thing, I highly doubt engineer is the least played.  It still might be Rev, but I think a lot more players have access to it than before.  It could be Thief or elementalist now, or it could still be Rev.  Thief and elementalist have historically been classes that are squishy, and take more finesse to play well, yet don't outperform any of the other classes in pve.  So that could be a reason they have low numbers.  But again there's no definite data.

If I have to take a look at the past weeks and months and count how many other Elementalist types I have seen I would say that out of ten "Eles", one is a Core, one is a Cata, three are Weavers and five a Tempests. Although I am inclined to say Catas are even less than Core ... which is a bad sign for the EoD class (and we all know why). That seems to be consistent over all game types (PvE, PVP and WvW). In WvW I would argue that Mechanist with the pew pew mechs are the most dominant sight roaming.

PS: If anyone has a more recent data set than gw2efficengy I linked, please post it, because I do not know another source to refer to.

I just like to be the person who goes outside of the norm rather than flock to meta specs or anything like that. I’ve done it in every MMO I’ve played. Just stuck with it.

You will be happy in GW2. Every class has so many builds and elite specialisations not in Meta, you can play any class and be far away from Meta (counts for all gamemodes).

I would say it is Revenant since Mechanist dominates most game modes.

I find that it's the classes will the least customisation. I mean Engineer Kits look horrible and Revenant can't swap out their utilities and have a weird energy system.

Elementalist is also in a bad spot right now.

I have heard different (maybe not with player numbers). They are slowly becoming much more playable especially in the Open World with the addition of Alacrity on Tempest.
It does seem like they are truly defining what they want Elementalist to be, rather than what it was, a piano playing nightmare.

Well it looks like I have plenty of options but I’m leaning toward thief rev or elementalist. Once I figure which one then I’ll start playing again. For now idk 😕
