No they said the collection for the new skin would unlock when you finished the new skyscale quest.

After you complete the Flight Training Mastery line and the Guild Wars 2: Secrets of the Obscure skyscale collection, a new collection will open up that awards a Kryptis-themed skyscale skin.

Kryptis skyscale skin is definitely missing its kryptis origin skin and texture effects that we see on the kryptis enemies and those red tentacles in Amynytas. They are warping and blurring and this skyscale is lacking it when all other kryptis have it.

If I were to purchase an exclusive gem store mount skin with the current gem to gold conversion I'd spend 580 gold. (1600 gems).  

I'm more than happy wth the cost and the reward. I love that they introduced a lore-bound mount skin earnable in-game. The fact that its a hideous disjointed kryptis monstrosity is a separate criticism but I personally love my little meatball. 

I DO think they should have made unlocking the skyscale easier. I could stand for them making the skin even more difficult to acquire.

Choosing to buy, at a premium for rushing the process, an optional luxury cosmetic item only to then complain about the price seems odd to me....especially if you also complain that you don't like the aesthetics of the item.

I don't really like the look, but it didn't seem overly expensive to me. You can always take your time and build up the mats needed over the course of a month or 2 if you want to trade the cost for time.
