Raizel.1839
I used to play GW2 just fine but now it's a few days that it crashes after just a few minutes in-game. I suspect these crashes are due to memory. To support this I found that memory usage spikes from 50% idle to 80% when running GW2 (or Chrome, see below) and when it goes above that, it crashes the game (other parameters, CPU, GPU, are in the safe range). Another evidence is when I use Google Chrome and I open multiple tabs or start watching videos, after a while it crashes too saying "Out of Memory" error. I'm not an expert but to me this points toward RAM, I have an 8GB RAM, I know the ideal for games is 16GB but what baffles me is that mine always worked fine in the past, can it "usurate" with time or what just happened? And what can I do to solve this, do I have to upgrade RAM or is there a way to make it work like it was doing before? The minimum game requirements increased after the release of EoD so past performance is little indication of current performance. There's also been the switch off DX9 and CoherentUI. Now 8G *should* be enough, but it's hard to determine exactly what is happening with your system without more details. Inculpatus cedo.9234
When I play (with my 8G of RAM), I turn off Firefox (and keep Chrome on for Wiki) to free up some memory. Browsers are memory-hogs.

Maybe I'm not clear enough cause english is not my first language but I said it's a few days (like 3-4 days or so), before that (5 days ago and more) it always ran fine. But yeah I know it's hard to give advice without more details (I don't know what might be useful), still thanks for replying, guess I'll try support. I see. Thanks for clarifying. 🙂 The way you wrote it sounds like you started playing again a few days ago and it's been crashing since.
PzTnT.7198
Id say that in this day and age you need 16GB for anything but basic work since stuff outside the game hogs a lot more memory than it used to. You can turn off whatever you don't need running in the background to save on RAM and it may do the trick. There may be something up with the swap settings on your computer that prevents use of virtual memory. In either case running a browser (with three tabs) and nothing else on windows 11 uses some 8-10GB of ram when idle on my work rig at least.

This error should pretty much never happen when it is set to its default setting (= windows manages it itself).
Triptaminas.4789
Game have memory leak problems now, its well known in wvw community, everyone can confirm that by just tracking their ram usage while playing, was severe back when u posted, now its back to managable levels. SoftFootpaws.9134
i think this game uses around 6-8gb of memory by itself (i'm pretty sure 6gb is the bottom line on medium settings), and requires 3-4gb of video memory as well. modern operating systems need about 2gb just for background tasks without any applications running, then you need another 6-8gb for a web browser and such, and if you don't have at least 4gb of video memory then some of your system memory will be used as a shader and texture swap area. furthermore, if you completely max out your memory then you don't have a disk cache, which is infinitely faster than even a solid state drive. this is one of the main reasons at least 16gb of memory is recommended for a gaming computer and 24-32gb for keeping applications open and having plenty of disk cache. for now, i think you can lower the shader and texture settings to radically reduce the amount of system and video memory used by the game (we used to do this on 32-bit). that said, the game shouldn't ever crash unless for some reason you disabled virtual memory in the windows settings. its also possible your system has been infected with malware that is using up resources in the background.
