Spears should be 1H or 2H

It would be the first weapon in GW2 that would be able to be used like that. Not sure if that's realistic but it might be a more general thing (as in for more weapons) for the next expansion after JaWi. They do need something different/new for every expansion after all.

Will stats be halved?
What sigil (there never was a time where there was rune written at this point) will count?
Are you sure switching a two-handed weapon between one- and two-handed mode will not break an escort event in Orr?
Are you sure introducing basically a third kind of weapon ten years into the games lifecycle won't break half the games spaghetti-code?
If this is done, what will be next? Two handing one-handed weapons like swords and axes? What rules will apply in those cases concerning stats and sigils?
Should any weapon just be able to be wielded in any way, shape or form on land and underwater whatsoever?
Why should I not be allowed to pummel someone with a scepter or shortbow?
Could this limit a weapons intended identity by turning every weapon into an everyweapon that does everything, everywhere?
Would this most likely boil down to everyone using exactly one weapon for everything, the best one, discarding everything else as jank?
Is this intended?
Is this good game design?
Is this post hyperbole?
Does it hold some truth nonetheless?

Definitely not changing instances of "rune" to "sigil"

Oh! I know the answer to these!

  1. They would take on the stats for any other 1-handed weapon with the same prefix.
  2. All the 6 runes already on your armor will still apply normally. The sigil in slot 1 will apply.
  3. Most likely.
  4. Most certainly!
  5. Only if you take the Monkey Grip feat trait.
  6. Only if they have the Versatile feature. Also see #5.
  7. Sure! Have at it!
  8. No skills will be adjusted for balance or able to do everything. In fact, some will break and do NOTHING. This is a free for all.
  9. No. People will start using 2 weapons for everything. Spear and shield. (Classes that can't use a shieled will be able to use it when wielding a spear only). Are you not paying attention? 🙃
  10. Not likely.

  13. Most certainly not. Maybe in expac 13?

lol i  was gonna say about Monkey Grip but then read the next point

i just got Windvane in my game so i'm pretty hype for spears 😄

Make it happen!

I suggested making a different weapon called Lance, that looks like Spear, but is a 1 hander with 1 hander stats on it. Can be dual wielded or main hand or off hand. Lance will look just like spears skin wise.

Possibly, but also way harder to balance because you would need to balance it with lots of offhand combinations per class.
