But no warhorn! Case closed! /j

If it being a horn is the specific issue, we can look into the direction of Monster Hunter and discover the Hunting Horn over there.

If Warhorn was Main Hand, it would need an Auto Attack.

So.. Do we bash the enemy over the head with it or toot loud enough to the point is hurts? What about enemies that can't hear?

I guess because thief is about being sneaky/stealthy and wielding a gigantic sword is pretty much the opposite.

Uhmmm... a thief who jumps out of the shadows like Zoolander in the Jersey coalmines yelling "TOOT TOOT MOTHER kittenER!" and blowing on a warhorn is now the only class I want to play.

It just occurred to me; that's a Bard...

What exactly is a "FOCUS" what is that in real life? Why is this a weapon in a game? what do you exactly use it for?

Also warhorns? for offhand???

I kinda wanna know what was the thought process for this design....

Good question, as far as I know a focus in real life isn't a weapon.

Only thing it could be, something ceremonial to show status/power, like holding an expensive fan for women back in the day for example.

What is a focus?
An object used to amplify or direct ones magical abilities. In your typical RPG this would be a stat boosting offhand item. Often represented as a book, crystal ball, talisman, prayer beads, tarot cards, or herbs… but could be nearly anything… in GW2, game mechanics necessitated that the focus function as a full fledged weapon rather than simply a stat boosting item. Foci are by design and function intended to be paired with scepters to create a full weapon kit.

Warhorn offhands?
While the warhorn may not be something you’d expect ad a weapon, they did see use on battlefields… often used by the vanguard or scouts to signal the rest of a larger army of approaching enemies. They also saw use for signaling various attack formations as well as retreats. Individuals who were carrying warhorns often fought with one weapon if they were a part of the vanguard allowing them to signal without lowering their guard against approaching enemies. Scouts on the otherhand would often attempt to avoid conflict at all costs. The warhorns we see in GW2 are a fantasy extension of the way a vanguard soldier might use one, which is why they are offhand weapons.

Thief Greatsword?
why? Greatsword is one if the furthest from stealthy or finesse you can get with a weapon… right up there with hammer… every weapon on thief fits the theme of stealthy and/or agile combatant… Daggers are both stealthy and agile… Shortbow is a stealthy and agile weapon… sword is an agile weapon and can be stealthy, axe is similar to sword in this regard… pistols are not stealthy, but you can be quite agile with then… staff is an agile weapon, and can be quite unassuming thus bring potentially stealthy… rifle… rifle normally doesn’t fit under stealthy or agile, however… the thief’s rifle is specifically a sniper rifle by design, which is in fact a stealthy weapon, just not agile in the least… and spear is a very agile weapon, similar to staff, and can be stealthy if used from a distance but otherwise its not a very stealthy weapon… as for scepter… shadow magic… which just leaves all the not very stealthy not agile weapons…

Eh, while most greatsword skins are overweight and overly chunky abominations that nobody would be able to wield without super strength and super stability... a proper longsword, katana, or the like is certainly a weapon that allows for a fair degree of finesse. Often more than 1H swords due to the added control of the second hand. If you can be stealthy and agile with a staff or a short spear, you can be with an appropriately weighted 2H sword.

It hasn't been a priority, and shouldn't be, but there's no in-principle reason a thief shouldn't be able to use the greatsword class of weapons.

If you go to the Wiki, you'll see a nice weapon's gallery that give great examples of different types of foci. A focus in real life is usually used in spiritual or meditative purposes, and is anything that you would use to center or channel your thoughts or energy through, like a pendent or cross, a holy book, prayer beads or rosary, crystals or orb, and even dolls or pictures.

A lot of people use them for prayer or relaxation. You should give it a try. Grab a item, put your hand around it or on top of it, and close your eyes. Allow yourself to feel all the nuances of it... The weight, the texture. Feel the groves. Breath slowly and focus only on what's in your hand right now.  Try to ignore the sounds around you by only paying attention to the sound of your hand rubbing and caressing the item. Feel the energy flow from your mind, down to your chest, through your arms and hands, and to this item... back and forth. Now, cast your spell...

I hope it worked for you.

If not, then you might want to add a chant to this...

"Uhmmm... O watta Loo Ni Eemm" and repeat.

A Focus is an object with spiritual value used to focus spiritual energy, think of the Black Stone in the Kaaba. It's a weapon in game for spell casters, you use it to cast spells.

Warhorns have a long well documented tradition in battlefields, used to organize, command and rally up troops.

Because we have katana skins in GW2 and beyond some people quickly commenting how the Belinda greatsword is achually a Nodashi, having the emo edge lords with all their glitter particle effects going around with those would be too much cringe.

It could be a heal weapon and work something like a bard; the autoattack would be some kind of area heal.
